  • A sediments are Integral called as gravel, sand, clay, mineral materials which are settling in bottom layer of reservoir, stream, and oceans from land. In practical problems relations of sediments are flood by decreed of flow capacity and down of water quality. Dredged sediments are composed with constructed material and variety of pollutant compounds. Therefore, it is very much of cost effects in nationally, if development for use of constructed material separated only constructed material within sediments. And it will be continue to the dredge operation of stream sediment for retrofit of water environment and sustainable's after the years. The following results could be obtained : In case of high concentration sediments, sample for design of CDF was shown property of flocculent settling. Assuming that average inflow rate is 1, 000㎥/hr, mean residence time( $T_{d}$), average ponding depth( $H_{pd}$ ), and design surface area for flocculent settling( $A_{df}$ ) were 5 hr, 0.6m, and 15, 750 $m^2$ respectivelyrespectivelyy

  • Many reservoirs have been constructed for sustainable utilization of water resources in Korea. Effective management of water resources in Korea becomes very important in resent years. Especially, the dredging in reservoirs is important for effective water resources management and one in easy water resources security methods. According to "The reservoir dredging mid-long term planning investigation report", it was investigated that 1221 reservoirs need to dredge among 3,288 reservoirs managed by KARICO. And, KARICO made a survey of reservoirs for the sediment and storage change in $2002{\sim}2004$. In results, it was investigated total storage $1,406{\pm}10^6m^3$, effective storage $1,344{\pm}10^6m^3$ in mid-small 2,748 reservoirs and the storage ratio decreased total storage ratio 15.7%, effective storage ratio 4.4%.

  • Ship operators are used to dredge anchor for the collision avoidance or safety of ship handling in a harbour or narrow channel. This paper clarifies the technique using tile anchor dredging known as a common sense for the seafarers. A mathematical model at low speed range has been established for the estimation of ship motion under the assumed environment , simulate the advance speed , and turning ability under the anchor dredging or not. The results shows good agreement with the conventional seamanship and their experiences as follows. Ahead speed used the anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:40%) than the normal ahead speed and the stopping distance is shorter (distance reduction ratio:40%)than the normal ahead distance without the anchor dredging. Turning speed used anchor dredging is slower(speed reduction ratio:72%)than the normal ahead speed and the tactical diameter is shorter(distance reduction ratio:24%)than the diameter by the normal turning without the anchor dredging.

  • Size-mass relationships were estimated for 4 species belonging to genus Semisulcospira from the Guem River, Korea. These 4 freshwater snail species: Semisulcospira libertina, Semisulcospira coreana, Semisulcospira gottschei, and Semisulcospira forticosta. Between June and November 2011, samples were caught by dredge (mesh size 10mm of multifilament nylon, total length 4.35 m) at depths of < 2 m. Estimates of for parameter b of the size-mass relationship (W = $aSH^b$) ranged between 2.0072 (Semisulcospira libertina) and 2.3463 (Semisulcospira gottschei).

  • Over 4.1 billion metric tons of non-hazardous solid wastes are generated in the United States anually. Therefore, there is a need to reuse or reprocess as many products or by -products as possible. In this report, the aggregates produced from Naval Shipyard and Charlexton area dredge spoils are designated as NC and DS, respectively. The major objective of this portion was to determine the feasibility of the use of these aggregates in concrete mixtures. According to test results, the unit weight of concrete mixtures containing NC and DS (vitrified glass) was lower than the control mixture, and the control mixture produced higher compressive and bending strength compared to mixtures containing vitrified glass. However the mixtures containing vitrified glass still could be used in the field based on the minimum criteria set for the mix desgin.

  • Recently , the hydraulic fill method is commonly used in many reclamation projects due to lack of fill materialss. The method of hydraulic fill i recalmation is executed by transporting the mixture of water -soil particles into a relcaimed land through dredging pipes, then the dredged soil particels settle down in thewater orflow over an out flow weir with the water. The amount of the volume reductions of dredged soil is considered the sum of the overall settlement by descication shrinkage and self-weigth consolidation and the loss of soil particles flow over a weir. In the present study, hydrometer analysis was performed with the soil samples obtained bofore and after dredging to estimate the amount of soil particles residual at reclaimed area and the loss of soil particles , then it was suggested the method of determining the loss ratio of dredged soils from the tests results. The hydrometer analysis of in-situ soil samples showed that the loss ratio of dredged soils is lowest at the nearest point to dredge pipe and highest at the nearest point of out flow weir.

Therefore, there is a need to reuse or reprocess as many products or by-products as possible. In this report, theaggregates produced from Naval Shipyard and Charleston area dredge spoils are designated as GP-21-23 and GP 4-5, repectively. The major objective of this study is to determine the feasiblity of the use of these aggregates in concrete. The followings are some of the conclusions, observations and recommendations regarding this portion of the research project. In most cases, the unit weight of concrete containing GP 21-23 and GP 4-5 (vitrified galss) lower than the control concrete, and the concrete containing vitrified glass produced lower compressive and bending strength compared to the control. However the concrete containing virtrified glass could be used in the field based on the minimum criterial set for the mix design. The use of vitrified glass in concrete is recommended in several applications except parking lots, side walks and main roads, because abrasion resistace is not high.

  • Dredged sea soil contains various contaminants. First priority to recycle dredged sea soil is to pretreat it to remove various contaminants because recycling dredge sea soil without any pre-treatment may cause a secondary contamination due to the leaching of hazardous chemicals. In this study, pretreated dredged sea soil was used to investigate pozzolanic activity. The properties of pretreated dredged sea soil were investigated, the method for heat treatment was determined, and the compressive strength of mortar using dredged sea soil was examined to evaluate pozzolanic activity. According to the results, pretreated dredged sea soil has some possibility to work as a pozzolanic material. When dredged sea soil was heat treated for 90min at 550℃, compressive strength was shown to be comparable to that of plain cement mortar.

  • Only four species of leuconids have been recorded in Korea, all belonging to the genera Eudorella Norman, 1867 and Nippoleucon Watling, 1991. In this study, Pseudoleucon japonicus Gamô, 1964 belonging to family Leuconidae Sars, 1878 is newly recorded for Korean cumacean fauna. Also, for the first time, the male of the species is fully described and illustrated. The specimens were collected from the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the western sea (Yellow Sea) of Korea, with a rectangular dredge during 2007-2008. This species is characterized by the following features: the carapace has strong serrations on the antero-lateral margin and a pair of short oblique ridges on the side surface; the ridges begin near the end of frontal lobe and merge with the dorsal median carina; the appendages, such as antenna 1, pereopod 2 and uropod have a lot of simple setae decorated with a bundle of hairs at the end. The present study represents the first record on the genus Pseudoleucon Zimmer, 1903 from Korea.
