  • A series of numerical studies are carried out for the different regimes of the detonation phenomena to investigate the computational requirements for the simulation of the cell structure of detonation wave by varying the reaction constants and grid resolutions. The computational results are investigated by comparing the solution of steady ZND structure to draw out the minimum grid resolutions and the size of the computational domain for capturing cell structures of the different regimes of the detonation phenomena.

  • The purpose of this study was to search the cases of low carbon green housing complex specially focusing on the design elements of ZEDfactory in UK and find the suggestion for the low carbon green housing complex in Korea. For this purpose, we reviewed the design elements of low carbon green housing, which are created by ZEDfactory. We also analyzed the 4 cases of them focusing on the design elements and synthesized the elements. As a result of this study, we can draw some implications and ways to apply the low carbon green concepts for housing complex such as the thermal heating, cooling and microgeneration solution using available renewable energy.

Influence of Base Paper Properties on Coating Penetration

  • The influence of sizing, fiber and pigment type on coating penetration, using commercial paper and two types of handsheets as the base paper which were prepared from thermomechanical pulp(TMP) and hardwood bleached kraft pulp(KP) sized internally with alkyl ketone dimmer(AKD), was studied in terms of characteristics of coating holdout. Laboratory rod draw down coater was used for surface sizing and coating application. Characterization of coating penetration was done by measuring the roughness of the backside of coating layer. The backside of the coating was exposed by dissolving the fibers in a solution of cupriethylenedimine(CED). Data show that internal sizing of base paper is effective and surface sizing is more effective to prevent coating penetration. Comparing between the two types of base papers, backside roughness of coating layer of TMP sheet is much larger and sizing is more effective to reduce coating penetration than those of KP sheet. With regard to pigment type, clay is more effective than calcium carbonate for better coating holdout.

  • The influences of heat treatment and surface sizing on coating penetration were studied using two types of commercial base papers. Dry oven was used for heat treatment and laboratory rod draw down coater was used for surface sizing and coating application. Coating penetration was evaluated by measuring the roughness of the backside of coating layer. The backside of the coating was exposed by dissolving the fibers in a cupriethylenedimine(CED) solution. The results showed that both heat treatment and surface sizing were the effective methods to increase sizing degree and to reduce coating penetration.

  • The present study attempted to investigate the military foodservice operation by conducting survey to foodservice managers. Surveys for managers of military foodservice operations were conducted in November, 2008 by visiting Consolidated Army Logistics School located in Daejeon during the time of training. Surveys for military foodservice officers and dietitian were sent by mail. The questionnaire was composed of the questions asking the general operation of military canteen, the self-concious specialty of military foodservice, and the needs assigning dietitian to each military unit. From the results of this study, it came up with the needs to draw up the plan to improve the foodservice specialty of canteen managers. One of the solution would assign dietitian to each military foodservice unit. Also, the facilities need to be equipped for various way of cooking to improve the satisfaction of soldiers. The results of this study would provide the data for making policy as well as arose academic interest to military foodservice.

  • The increasing use of non-linear loads such as power electronics draw highly distorted currents from the utility system. High harmonics currents and voltages will cause equipment damage and disturb the plant operation. The common solution to harmonics problem is to use harmonics filters. In this paper simulation results used the EDSA harmonics analysis program verifying the effects of the single-tuned filter for harmonic elimination are presented.

  • In the field of Public Administration, the issue of Polycentric Incorporation of Localities in Metropolitan Areas (PILMA) has long been a significant object of study. That the issue is politically impractical to deal with is today's well-known assessment of it both for the scholars and practitioners. This theoretical notes constitutes an initial plan for examining an intellectual state of affairs surrounding PILMA. It identifies three theoretical problems inherent in the traditional treatment of the issue: Applicative Scope of Market Type Solution; Negative Externality and Preference Revelation; Determination of Production Scale. Notes were composed based on the proposition that the traditional theoretical formulation has not been so much well constructed as to draw more attention and debate on the PILMA.

  • This study is to present an engineering solution for the repair frequency and repair rates of a building. The existing data for the repair frequency and repair rates are used to draw the probability distribution for the generalized repair frequency and repair rate in a building. The suggested methodology can be widely used for most buildings to estimate the legal repair frequency and repair rates. Also, the methodology can be applied to resolve the risks on the maintenance costs in LC (Life Cycle) plans or LCC (Life Cycle Cost) analysis. As the future studies, there are the multiple regression analysis including the parameters on incurred costs and the decision methods on efficient repair and replacement.
