압력지연삼투 (PRO) 공정에서 유도용액에서의 압력이 유기물 파울링에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Hydraulic Pressure on Organic Fouling in Pressure Retarded Osmosis (PRO) Process)

  • Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) process is one of membrane processes for harvesting renewable energy by using salinity difference between feed and draw solutions. Power is generated by permeation flux multiplied by hydraulic pressure in draw side. Membrane fouling phenomena in PRO process is presumed to be less sever, but it is inevitable. Membrane fouling in PRO process decreases water permeation through membrane, resulting in significant power production decline. This study intended to investigate the effect of hydraulic pressure in PRO process on alginate induced organic fouling as high and low hydraulic pressures (6.5 bar and 12 bar) were applied for 24 h under the same initial water flux. In addition, organic fouling in draw side from the presence of foulant (sodium alginate) in draw solution was examined. As major results, hydraulic pressure was found to be not a significant factor affecting in PRO organic fouling as long as the same initial water flux is maintained, inidicating that operating PRO process with high hydraulic pressure for efficient energy harvesting will not cause severe organic fouling. In addition, flux decline was negligible from the presence of organic foulant in draw side.

비료 유도용액의 정삼투를 이용한 하수의 재이용 및 농축 (Reuse and Concentration of Sewage by Forward Osmosis Using Fertilizer as Draw Solution)

  • 본 연구에서는 하수의 재이용과 농축에 비료를 유도용액으로 하는 정삼투 기술을 적용하였다. 1차 침전지 유입수를 30 min간 정치한 상등액(Sewage-1), 1차 침전지 유출수를 30 min간 정치한 상등액(Sewage-2), 1차 침전지 유출수를 $1{\mu}m$ 카트리지 필터에 의해 여과한 여과액(Sewage-3)의 3종류의 하수를 대상으로 하였다. 유도용액은 삼투압, 용해도 및 pH를 고려하여 $NH_4H_2PO_4$, KCl, $KNO_3$, $NH_4Cl$, $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$, $NH_4NO_3$, $NH_4HCO_3$$KHCO_3$의 8종류의 유도용액을 사용하였다. Sewage-3를 대상으로 한 경우의 수투과선속은 하수처리장 방류수의 수투과선속과 거의 유사하였으며, Sewage-1와 Sewage-2의 수투과선속에 비해 크게 나타났다. 비역용질선속은 $NH_4H_2PO_4$가 가장 작았으며, 반대로 $NH_4NO_3$가 가장 크게 나타났다. 본 연구에 사용된 유도용액 중에서 $NH_4H_2PO_4$는 비료의 주요 성분인 질소와 인을 포함하고 있을 뿐 아니라 낮은 비역용질선속을 갖고 있어서 하수의 재이용과 농축에서 가장 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다. $NH_4H_2PO_4$를 유도용액으로 사용한 경우, Sewage-3에 대한 24 h 후의 농축인자는 1.72이었다.

  • It is desirable to predict springback quantitatively and accurately for the tool and process design in sheet stamping operations, however, it is blown very difficult. The result of springback analysis by the finite element method is sensitively influenced by numerical factors such as blank element size, number of integration point, punch velocity, contact algorithm etc. In the present work, a parametric study by Taguchi method is performed in order to evaluate the influence of numerical factors on springback Quantitatively and to obtain the combination of numerical factors which yields the best approximation to experimental data. Since springback is determined by the residual stress after forming process, it is important to evaluate stress distribution accurately. The oscillation in the time history curve of stress obtained by explicit FEM says that the stress solution at termination time is in very unstable state. Therefore, a variability study is also carried out in this study in order to assess the stability of implicit springback analysis starting from the stress solution by explicit forming simulation. The 2D draw bending process, one of the NUMISHEET '93 benchmark problems, is adopted as an application model.

Using Freeze Frame and Visual Notifications in an Annotation Drawing Interface for Remote Collaboration

  • This paper describes two user studies in remote collaboration between two users with a video conferencing system where a remote user can draw annotations on the live video of the local user's workspace. In these two studies, the local user had the control of the view when sharing the first-person view, but our interfaces provided instant control of the shared view to the remote users. The first study investigates methods for assisting drawing annotations. The auto-freeze method, a novel solution for drawing annotations, is compared to a prior solution (manual freeze method) and a baseline (non-freeze) condition. Results show that both local and remote users preferred the auto-freeze method, which is easy to use and allows users to quickly draw annotations. The manual-freeze method supported precise drawing, but was less preferred because of the need for manual input. The second study explores visual notification for better local user awareness. We propose two designs: the red-box and both-freeze notifications, and compare these to the baseline, no notification condition. Users preferred the less obtrusive red-box notification that improved awareness of when annotations were made by remote users, and had a significantly lower level of interruption compared to the both-freeze condition.

딥러닝을 이용한 정삼투 막모듈의 플럭스 예측 (Predicting flux of forward osmosis membrane module using deep learning)

  • Forward osmosis (FO) process is a chemical potential driven process, where highly concentrated draw solution (DS) is used to take water through semi-permeable membrane from feed solution (FS) with lower concentration. Recently, commercial FO membrane modules have been developed so that full-scale FO process can be applied to seawater desalination or water reuse. In order to design a real-scale FO plant, the performance prediction of FO membrane modules installed in the plant is essential. Especially, the flux prediction is the most important task because the amount of diluted draw solution and concentrate solution flowing out of FO modules can be expected from the flux. Through a previous study, a theoretical based FO module model to predict flux was developed. However it needs an intensive numerical calculation work and a fitting process to reflect a complex module geometry. The idea of this work is to introduce deep learning to predict flux of FO membrane modules using 116 experimental data set, which include six input variables (flow rate, pressure, and ion concentration of DS and FS) and one output variable (flux). The procedure of optimizing a deep learning model to minimize prediction error and overfitting problem was developed and tested. The optimized deep learning model (error of 3.87%) was found to predict flux better than the theoretical based FO module model (error of 10.13%) in the data set which were not used in machine learning.

The uncertainty problem analysis of the engineering solution for prediction and estimation of the operating regime to design of gas- hydro-dynamic systems

  • Analysis of the uncertainty to have engineering solution of gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic problems is based on the comparison the prospective engineering solution with experimental result. In this paper, the mathematical model to estimate heat flux along gas-dynamic channel wall and the solution sequence are shown. Statistical information and generalizing experimental characteristics about gas- and hydro-dynamic channels were applied to the mathematical model. As the results, it is possible to draw a conclusion that models of the integrated approach, using the averaged statistical data of generalizing characteristics for a turbulent flow, without consideration of the turbulent mechanism (characteristic pulsations), can predict a nominal operating regime for gas-dynamic and hydrodynamic systems. The probable deviation of operating regime for newly designed the gas-dynamic channel can achieve 20% from a regime predicted on a basis 1-D or 3-D modelling irrespective of a kind of used models.

  • We have investigated the properties of poly (vinyl alcohol)-film obtained by casting from the solution PVA/electrolytes (NaCl, KCl, MgCl$_2$, CaCl$_2$)/water systems at room temperature. The removed electrolytes films have got high crystallinity as well as high draw ratio. The removed electrolytes films had layer-structure while a film without electrolytes didn't have it. A relation between draw ratio and thickness or number of layers, were recognized.

  • Recently, reverse osmosis (RO) is the most common process for seawater desalination. A common problem in both RO and thermal processes is the high energy requirements for seawater desalination. The one energy saving method when utilizing the osmotic power is utilizing pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) process. The PRO process can be used to operate hydro turbines for electrical power production or can be used directly to supplement the energy required for RO desalination system. This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of both single-stage PRO process and two-stage PRO process using RO concentrate for a draw solution and RO permeate for a feed solution. The major results, were found that increase of the draw and feed solution flowrate lead to increase of the production of power density and water permeate. Also, comparison between CDCF and CDDF configuration showed that the CDDF was better than CDCF for stable operation of PRO process. In addition, power density of two-stage PRO was lower than the one of single-stage. However, net power of two-stage PRO was higher than the one of single-stage PRO.

정삼투를 이용한 하수의 재이용에서 혼합비료 유도용액의 성능 평가 (Evaluating the Performance of Blended Fertilizer Draw Solution in Reuse of Sewage Water Using Forward Osmosis)

  • 본 연구는 혼합비료를 유도용액으로 하는 정삼투 기술을 하수에 적용하여 하수를 재이용하기 위한 연구이다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 J 하수처리장의 1차 침전지 유입수와 유출수, 그리고 2차 침전지 유출수를 각각 처리 대상으로 하였다. 평균 수투과선속은 KCl + NH4Cl > KCl + NH4H2PO4 > KCl + (NH4)2HPO4의 순서로 크게 나타났으며, 역용선속은 KCl + NH4H2PO4 < KCl + NH4Cl < KCl + (NH4)2HPO4의 순서로 작게 나타났다. 혼합비료의 종류에 관계없이 2차 침전지 유출수의 수투과선속이 가장 높게 나타났다. KCl과 NH4H2PO4의 혼합 유도용액은 비료의 주요 성분인 질소, 인 및 칼륨을 모두 포함하고 있을 뿐 아니라 낮은 비역용질 선속을 갖고 있어서 하수의 재이용에 가장 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다. KCl과 NH4H2PO4의 혼합 유도용액을 사용한 경우, 2차 침전지 유출수에 대한 평균 수투과선속과 역용질선속은 각각 12.14 LMH과 0.012 mol/㎡s이었다.

FEM과 ADS를 이용한 최적설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimum Design Using FEM and ADS)

  • This study is an investigation for the ADS optimum design by using FEM. We write out program which express ADS perfectly and reduce the required time for correcting of model to the minimum in solution and manufacture result. We complete algorithm which can plan optimum forming of model by feedback error information in CAE. For that, we draw up ADS program which modeling rachet wheel by using visual LISP and telegraph to ANSYS, structural solution program, we can solve stress solution. Then we correct model by feedback date obtaining in solution process, repeat course following stress solution again and do modeling rachet wheel for optimum forming. That is our aim. As a result of experience, we can develope automatic design program using Visual LISP and exhibit ADS as modeling third dimension CAD for optimum design. Also, we develop optimum design algorithm using ADS and FEM. In rachet wheel, greatest equivalence stress originates in key groove comer and KS standard is proved the design for security.
