  • Social survey and auditory experiment on residential noises such as floor impact, air-bome, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises were conducted to investigate the effects of sensitivity and background noise levels on subjective response to residential noises. Results of survey showed that multiple questions for sensitivity to noise have a more power for discrimination against subjective response to noise than single question. It was also found that the correlation between sensitivity and annoyance was relatively low, but the differences in annoyance between sensitivity groups were significant. Result of auditory experiment showed that effects of sensitivity on annoyance were different according to noise type and noise level. It was also shown that the difference in annoyance between the lowest sensitive stoup and the highest sensitive group was significant in low noise level. The effects of background noise on subjective responses to noise was also different according to noise source and noise level, and were significant in low noise level of airborne and drainage noise.

  • The study about a drainpipe of water closet was performed as reduction plan on drainage noise for water closet, which of noise in plumbing systems was being indicated the major point at issue in apartment houses. A drainpipe of water closet is divided into a sleeve, a joint elbow and a traversing pipe, through the result of experiment, for an effective noise reduction in a drainpipe a threefold joint elbow is proposed among parts. And through the experiment of performance with glasswool, the removal of glasswool should be in the economical efficiency aspect.

  • PURPOSES : The permeable pavement type has been rapidly developed for solving problems regarding traffic noise in the area of housing complex and heavy rainwater drainage in order to account for the climate change. In this regards, the objective of this study is to figure out the characteristics of pavement types. METHODS : The laboratory test for deriving optimum asphalt content (OAC) was conducted using the mixtures of the permeable asphalt surface for the pavement surface from Marshall compaction method. Based on its results, the pavement construction at the test field was conducted. After that, the site performance tests for measuring the traffic noise, strength and permeability were carried out for the relative evaluation in 2 months after the traffic opening. The specific site tests are noble close proximity method (NCPX), Light falling deflectometer test (LFWD) and the compact permeability test. RESULTS : The ordered highest values of the traffic noise level can be found such as normal dense graded asphalt, drainage and porous structure types. In the results from LFWD, the strength values of the porous and drainage asphalt types had been lower, but the strength of normal asphalt structure had relatively stayed high. CONCLUSIONS :The porous structure has been shown to perform significantly better in permeability and noise reduction than others. In addition to this study, the evaluation of the properties and the determination of the optimum thickness for the subgrade course under the porous pavement will be conducted using ground investigation technique in the further research.

  • A survey and auditory experiment on multiple residential noises such as floor impact, airborne, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises were conducted to develop a combined rating system and to establish criteria for multiple residential noises. Subjective reactions such as annoyance, activity disturbance, sleep disturbance, and satisfaction to overall noise environment and each residential noise were recorded. The effect of individual noise perception on the evaluation of the overall noise environment was also investigated. The survey results showed that satisfaction for floor impact noise most greatly affects the overall satisfaction for overall noise environment and annoyance most greatly affects the satisfaction for individual noise sources. Auditory experiments were undertaken to determine the percent satisfaction for individual noise levels. Result of auditory experiment showed that the noise level corresponding to 40 % satisfaction is 49 dB $(L_{i,Fmax,AW})$ for floor impact and is about 40 dB(A) for airborne, drainage and traffic noise. From the results of the survey and the auditory experiments, an equation for predicting the overall satisfaction for multiple noises was developed and a classification of multiple residential noises was proposed.

  • Drainage concrete pavement, unlike water permeable concrete pavement, is to preclude the pavement from overflowing with water, such as rain water, from infiltrating into earth by placing a border in the middle layer which makes water to flow through the surface of the border to the conduit. Drainage concrete pavement enhances car wheel resistance to slippery and wet road surface and imbibes noise caused by friction on the road. Also, by using pigment, it adds to the beauty of the environment. Drainage concrete pavement can be used for sidewalks, roadways, parking lots and expressways.

  • A 7-point verbal noise annoyance scale for residential noises was developed in this study. An auditory experiment using major residential noises such as air-borne, bathroom drainage, and traffic noises was conducted to develop a noise annoyance scale for rating residential noises and allowable limit of them. The modifiers used in the scales were selected according to the method proposed by ICBEN(international commission on the biological effect of noise) Team 6. Results showed that the intensity of the selected words in the 7-point noise annoyance scale was highly correlated with noise levels. and that the intensity difference between each pair of successive levels in the 7-point annoyance scale was almost identical. The allowable limit of residential noise was also investigated in the auditory experiment and that of airborne, drainage and traffic noises were 42.3 dB(A), 41.0 dB(A) and 42.7 dB(A), respectively.

  • Drainage noise with making think about what they do disturbs neighborhoods live under source of noise. elbow pipe built in the house. the general elbow pipe has a rectangular elbow because of easiness when the plan set up or executing. therefore, free falling fluid impacts on the wall of the elbow pipe almost at one point. in this paper, to disperse the potential energy, the shock decentralizes from tiny area to large area. And It is considered how the characteristics change according to the noise of transformed shape of pipe, then researched the effectiveness of transformed pipe configuration.

  • The study was performed as reduction plan on drainage noise in a toilet, which of noise in plumbing systems was being indicated the major point at issue in apartment houses. The reduction plan is four items, which are water closet, isolating system for the base of water closet, low noise drainpipe, and a ceiling tex. Through the result of experiment, it was showed that noise reduction is about 9dB(A) within a toilet and above 5dB(A) in a bedroom.
