Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) in the large-scale road section usually have typical characteristics of large number of vehicles and unevenly distribution over geographic spaces. These two inherent characteristics lead to the unsatisfactory performance of VANETs. This poor performance is mainly due to fragile communication link and low dissemination efficiency. We propose a novel routing mechanism to address the issue in the paper, which includes a competition-based routing discovery with priority metrics and a local routing repair strategy. In the routing discovery stage, the algorithm uses adaptive scheme to select a stable route by the priorities of routing metrics, which are the length of each hop, as well as the residual lifetime of each link. Comparisons of different ratios over link length and link stability further show outstanding improvements. In the routing repair process, upstream and downstream nodes also compete for the right to establish repair process and to remain as a member of the active route after repair. Our simulation results confirm the improved performance of the proposed algorithm.

Most design changes are due to interferences and fit-up as parts are assembled if such a large product as an automobile or an aircraft is developed by many concurrent engineers. In this part (1) of the thesis, the assembly-centric modeling methodology with CAD systems is proposed in order to reduce the design changes. Unlike part-centric modeling method, a part is modeled with its own coordinate system which is used in downstream process as machining and measuring. The part coordinates initially have the same orientation as its assembly which is predefined in BOM (Bill of Material). Then, the corrdinates origin of the part is moved to its location to be assembled from that of its assembly coordinate system. To implement this methodology, the position data of the part w.r.t. its assembly are stored in a database to build the same hierarchical assembling structure as BOM structure. This modeling approach has the advantage of reflecting asembling sequence, because the process of positioning parts is similar to that of real assembling. And with the method, a designer can easily adjust all of the part positions of an assembly to resolve interferences if he modifies just the coordinates origin of the assembly, which results in moving included parts and assemblies together.
Supplying clean and safe water to people is facing both quantitative and qualitative challenges. Due to climate change, access to freshwater becomes increasingly difficult, while pollution from various sources decreases the public trust in water quality. Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) which stores and uses surface water in aquifer is receiving attention as a new technology to secure freshwater. Recently, there is a global expansion in the attempt to combine general purification plants and hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) which manages all the process from raw material to consumer for food safety. This research is about an attempt to apply HACCP to the drinking water supply process using MAR to secure both quantity and quality of drinking water. The study site is a MAR plant being constructed in the downstream area of the Nakdong River Basin, South Korea. The incorporation of HACCP with MAR-based water supply system is expected to enhance the safety and reliability of drinking water.

In this paper, two types of integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants using either an air separation unit (ASU) or an ion transport membrane (ITM), which provide the oxygen required in the gasification process, were simulated and their thermodynamic performance was compared. Also, the influence of adopting a pre-combustion $CO_2$ capture in the downstream of the gasification process on the performance of the two systems was examined. The system using the ITM exhibits greater net power output than the system using the ASU. However, its net plant efficiency is slightly lower because of the additional fuel consumption required to operate the ITM at an appropriate operating temperature. This efficiency comparison is based on the assumption of a moderately high purity (95%) of the oxygen generated from the ASU. However, if the oxygen purity of the ASU is to be comparable to that of the ITM, which is over 99%, the ASU based IGCC system would exhibit a lower net efficiency than the ITM based system.

GaAs film growth process from trimethylgallium(TMGa) and tertiary-butylarsine(TBAs) using a horizontal MOCVD reactor was numerically studied to explain the experimental result that the decreasing surface reaction rate as the increasing partial pressure of group III species. Using the non-linear model based on the Langmuir isotherm which considers the adsorption and desorption of molecules, film deposition over the entire reactor scale was predicted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with the aid of the parameters obtained from the selective area growth (SAG) technique. CFD Results using the non-linear surface reaction model with the parameters determined from the SAG experiments predicted too high film growth rate compared to the measured values at the downstream region where the temperature was decreased abruptly. The pairs of ($k_s^n$, K) from the numerical simulations was $(2.52{\times}10K^{-6}mol/m^2/s,\;1.6{\times}10^5m^3/mol)$, whereas the experimentally determined was $(3.58{\times}10^{-5}mol/m^2/s,\;6.9{\times}10^5m^3/mol)$.

The exchange of CAD (Computer Aided Design) models between different CAD systems and to downstream applications such as manufacturing has become very important to modem industry. One serious current issue is that the process cannot automatically import existing 3-D solid models in a variety of commercial CAD formats into the process without manually re-mastering the model in current standard including "SIEP AP(Application Protocol) 203 Edition 1" To fully integrate technical data from the design agency to the shop floor, design intent and validated 3D geometry of feature based parametric CAD model should be brought into the standardized processes. To overcome this limitation, AP203 Edition 2 (Ed.2) and its related STEP parts such as Part55, Part108, Part109, Part111 and Part112 are starting to be available to handle this problem. The features in Part111 are harmonized with the machining features available in AP224. This paper is focused on two mapping technologies: CAD to Part111 mapping and Pat111 to AP224 mapping including case studios and it will provide the guideline about what should be done next in the AP203 Ed.2 to AP224 mapping. The final goal of this project is to integrate technical data from CAD to AP224 based manufacturing information through AP203 Ed.2.

The objective of this study is to analyse the spray characteristics according to the injection duration under ambient pressure condition and to investigate the relationship between vorticity and entropy for controlling diffusion process that is the most important thing during the intake stroke injection process. Therefore, the spray velocity was obtained by using the PIV method that has been an useful optical diagnostics technology, and vorticity calculated from spray velocity component with vorticity algorithm. In addition, the homogeneous diffusion rate of spray was quantified by using the entropy analysis based on the Boltzmann's statistical thermodynamics. From these method, we found that as injection duration increases, spray velocity increases and the location of vortex is moved to the downstream of spray. In the same condition, as the entropy decrease, mean vorticity increases. This means that the concentration of spray droplets caused by the increase of injection duration is more effective than the increase of momentum dissipation.

The history of the paper industry has shown a strong technological evolution which has been an essential factor in achieving low cost, high quality paper products and in sustaining the strength of the industry. In the last decades paper machine development has been rapid. This has helped to establish paper as a "low cost" material. In future, the pressure from the competing media will only accelerate the technological efforts to improve cost and functional'||'&'||'not;ity of paper. In addition, in the future, technological advances will be combined with innovation in busi'||'&'||'not;ness concepts. Certain production methods are likely to be developed which will distribute current process stages outside the paper mill. Papermakers can begin to reduce their invest'||'&'||'not;ment risk by subcontracting large-scale base paper production but taking responsibility for the higher value finishing process stages. Finishing will be more closely integrated with the final use. The role of technology supplier to the paper industry will naturally evolve to reflect all these changes. Metso is already actively collaborating downstream in the different paper-related business chains. This collaboration will be crucial for implementation of new business and technology innovations in P'||'&'||'P industry and Metso will certainly benefit from its catalyst role in this transition.
Predicting water levels is a difficult task because a lot of uncertainties are included. Therefore the neural network which is appropriate to such a problem, is introduced. One day ahead forecasting of river stage in the Bocheong River is carried out by using the neural network model. Historical water levels at Snagye gauging point which is located at the downstream of the Bocheong River and average rainfall of the Bocheong River basin are selected as training data sets. With these data sets, the training process has been done by using back propagation algorithm. Then waters levels in 1997 and 1998 are predicted with the trained algorithm. To improve the accuracy, a filtering method is introduced as predicting scheme. It is shown that predicted results are in a good agreement with observed water levels and that a filtering method can overcome the lack of training patterns.
Since South Korea has uneven rainfall and deteriorating water quality, it is imperative to create a comprehensive water resources policy and management. This paper is to adopt a win-win policy for upstream-downstream local governments that have been in water rights-related disputer or conflicts in the process of allocating water and maintaining water quality. The Win-Win Policy can be an integrated river-basin approach. We define the win-win policy, introduce the win-win case of Delaware River and Colorado River in the United States, and suggest the win-win policy for Nakdong River in South Korea. Nakdong River is chosen for this paper because it has more serious problems in preserving water quantity and maintaining water quality.
