  • Electromagnetic waves potentially have been used to heat overdense nuclear fusion plasmas through a double mode conversion from ordinary to slow extraordinary and finally to Electron Bernstein Wave (EBW) modes, OSXB. This scheme is efficient and has not any plasma density limit of electron cyclotron resonance heating due to cut-off layer. The efficiency of conversion depends on the isotropic launching angles of the microwaves with the plasma parameters. In this article, a two-step mode conversions of OSXB power transmission efficiency affected by the fast extraordinary (FX) loses at upper hybrid frequency are studied. In addition, the kinetic (hot) dispersion relation of a overdense plasma in a full wave analysis of a OSXB in Wendelstein 7X (W7-X) stellarator plasma has been numerically simulated. The influence of plasma dependent parameters such as finite Larmor radius, electron thermal velocity and electron cyclotron frequency are represented.

  • Lack of lysosomal fusion with symbiosomes in symbiont-bearing Amoeba proteus may be due either to the presence of a component in the symbiosome membrane or to the absence of a component needed in the fusion process. Using monoclonal antibody as a probe, lipopolysaccharides were identified as symbiosome-membrane components contributed by symbionts and were found to be exposed on the cytoplasmic side of the membrane. In order to test whether lipopolysaccharides may play a role in the prevention of lysosome-symbiosome fusion, the antilipopolysaccharides antibody was microinjected and processed for double immunostaining in conjuction with anti-lysosome antibody as a lysosome-fusion indicator. Microinjection of the anti-LPS antibody caused symbiosomes to fuse with lysosomes, suggesting that X-bacterial lipopolysaccharides could be 'fusion-preventing' factors.

  • Objective : This study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of demineralized bone matrix (DBM) gel versus DBM gel with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) used in transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). Methods : This study was designed as a prospective, multi-center, double-blind method, randomized study. All randomized subjects underwent TLIF with DBM gel with rhBMP-2 group (40 patients) as an experimental group or DBM gel group (36 patients) as a control group. Post-operative observations were performed at 12, 24, and 48 weeks. The spinal fusion rate on computed tomography scans and X-rays films, Visual analog scale pain scores, Oswestry disability index and SF-36 quality of life (QOL) scores were used for the efficacy evaluation. The incidence rate of adverse device effects (ADEs) and serious adverse device effects (SADEs) were used for safety evaluation. Results : The spinal fusion rate at 12 weeks for the DBM gel with rhBMP-2 group was higher with 73.68% compared to 58.82% for the DBM gel group. The 24 and 48 weeks were 72.22% and 82.86% for the DBM gel with rhBMP-2 group and 78.79% and 78.13%, respectively, for the DBM gel group. However, there were no significant differences between two groups in the spinal fusion rate at 12, 24, and 48 weeks post-treatment (p=0.1817, p=0.5272, p=0.6247). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence rate of ADEs (p=0.3836). For ADEs in the experimental group, 'Pyrexia' (5.00%) was the most common ADE, followed by 'Hypesthesia', 'Paresthesia', 'Transient peripheral paralysis', 'Spondylitis' and 'Insomnia' (2.50%, respectively). ADEs reported in control group included 'Pyrexia', 'Chest discomfort', 'Pain', 'Osteoarthritis', 'Nephropathy toxic', 'Neurogenic bladder', 'Liver function analyses' and 'Urticaria' (2.86%, respectively). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence rate of SADEs (p=0.6594). For SADE in the experimental group, ''Pyrexia' and 'Spondylitis' were 2.50%. SADE reported in the control group included 'Chest discomfort', 'Osteoarthritis' and 'Neurogenic bladder'. All SADEs described above were resolved after medical treatment. Conclusion : This study demonstrated that the spinal fusion rates of DBM gel group and DBM gel with rhBMP-2 group were not significantly different. But, this study provides knowledge regarding the earlier postoperative effect of rhBMP-2 containing DBM gel and also supports the idea that the longer term follow-up results are essential to confirm the safety and effectiveness.

  • Double rectangular patch with 4-bridges is investigated for solution of IEEE 802.11b/g (2.4 GHz) and 802.11a (5.5 GHz). Rectangular patch for 5.5 GHz frequency band is printed on the PCB substrate and connected to another rectangular patch for 2.4 GHz frequency band with 4-bridges to obtain dual band operation in an antenna element. 4-bridges can modify the desired frequency band from its original frequency band by changing its width. Gain of 2.4 GHz patch is 5 dBi and 5.5 GHz patch is 3.7 dBi at ${\theta}=0^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we propose a triple nested PID control scheme for stable hovering of a quadrotor and propose a complementary filter based sensor fusion technique to improve the performance of attitude, altitude and velocity measurement. The triple nested controller has a structure in which a double nested attitude controller that has the angular velocity PD controller in inner loop and the angular PI controller in outer loop, is nested in a velocity control loop to enable stable hovering even in the case of disturbance. We also propose a sensor fusion technique by applying a complementary filter in order to reduce the noise and drift error included in the acceleration and gyro sensor and to measure the velocity by fusing image, gyro, and acceleration sensor. In order to verity the performance, we applied the proposed control and measurement scheme to hovering control of quadrotor.

  • Hydrotalcite, layered double hydroxides (LDH), with hexagonal morphology has been rapidly synthesized by microwave reaction within 1 hour by urea hydrolysis from homogeneous solution. Different synthesis parameters, Mg/Al molar ratio, microwave reaction temperature and microwave power were systematically investigated. Pure hydrotalcite phase was obtained for Mg/Al ratios of 2:1 and 3:1, and higher reaction temperature gave higher crystallinity. The hydrotalcite synthesized at 600W power shows the highest crystallinity and more homogeneous crystal size distribution. The hydrotalcite samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and Scanning electron micrograph (SEM).

  • Phospholipase D (PLD) catalyzed the generation of phosphatidic acid (PA) from phosphatidylcholine (PC) at the outer layer of the vesicles prepared through layer by layer via a double emulsion technique. The generation induced a curvature change in the vesicles, which eventually led them to fuse each other. The ratio of two-fatty-acid-tail ethanolamine (PE) to one-fatty-acid-tail ethanolamine (PE) was found to acquire the condition where the mixed-phospholipid vesicles were stable identically with pure two-fatty-acid-tail PC. The effect of the outer-layer mixture on the PLD-induced vesicle fusion was investigated using the fluorescence intensity change. 8-Aminonaph-thalene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid disodium salt (ANTS) and p-Xylene-bis(N-pyridinium bromide) (DPX) were encapsulated in the vesicles, respectively, for the quantification of the fusion. The fluorescence scale was calibrated with the fluorescence of a 1/1 mixture of ANTS and DPX vesicles in NaCl buffer taken as 100% fluorescence (0% fusion) and the vesicles containing both ANTS and DPX as 0% fluorescence (100% fusion), considering the leakage into the medium studied directly in a separate experiment using vesicles containing both ANTS and DPX. The fusion data for each composition were acquired with the subtraction of the leakage from the quenching. From the monitoring, the vesicle fusion caused by the PLD reaction seems dominantly to occur rather than the vesicle lysis, because the composition effect on the fusion was observed identically with that on the change in the vesicle structure. Furthermore, the diameter measurements also support the fusion dominancy.

  • An 11-year-old spayed female Maltese dog presented with mass in oral cavity. On conscious oral examination, the right maxillary canine tooth was not visible, and a lesion has been suspected of mass existed in canine tooth area. The adjacent maxillary first premolar was buried in the lesion, with a little part of the tooth exceptions. On radiographic examination, the canine tooth was buried horizontally in the lesion, and the root part was adjacent to the first premolar tooth. Extraction was performed for a treatment. When the lesion was incised, the canine tooth was horizontal with the concave surface facing the palatal, and formed double teeth by fusing with the premolar tooth at the roots parts of the teeth. This report described the double teeth in the dentigerous cyst rarely reported in dogs.

  • The double teeth include gemination and fusion. The congenital missing tooth is the absence of the tooth. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of double teeth and congenital missing teeth in preschool children of Iksan city. The study population consisted of 1,031 children, 569 boys and 462 girls, aged from 17 to 84 months. The double teeth possess a variety of diagnostic and treatment problems. Gemination is the partial splitting of a single bud into two distinct entities that remain joined in a Siamese twin fashion. Fusion is the joining of two buds. Both may be normal, or one may be a supernumerary tooth. Congenital missing is the absence of one or a few teeth. Twenty three(11 boys and 12 girls) of the 1,031 children had double teeth and 17(8 boys and 9 girls) exhibited congenital missing of teeth. The prevalence of double primary teeth was 2.2%. The prevalence of congenital missing teeth was 1.6%. One subject had double teeth and congenital missing tooth at the same time. Of the 17 cases of congenital missing teeth, one girl showed it in the maxilla and aye boys and six girls had them in the unilateral side of the mandible. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of double teeth and congenital missing teeth between the boys and the girls.

  • Autophagy is a tightly regulated lysosome-mediated catabolic process in eukaryotes that maintains cellular homeostasis. A distinguishable feature of autophagy is the formation of double- membrane structures, autophagosome, which envelopes the intracellular cargoes and finally degrades them by fusion with lysosomes. So far, many structures of Atg proteins working on the autophagosome formation have been reported, however those involved in autophagosome maturation, a fusion with lysosome, are relatively unknown. One of the molecules in autophagosome maturation, TECPR1, has been identified and recently, structural studies on both ATG5-TECPR1 and ATG5-ATG16L1 complexes revealed that TECPR1 and ATG16L1 share the same binding site on ATG5. These results, in combination with supporting biochemical and cellular biological data, provide an insight into a model for swapping ATG5 partners for autophagosome maturation.
