  • We have studied the technologies for a double-deck train. But, there are no standards and test methods for a double-deck train. Therefore, we apply the standard and test method of the general train to transform the structural analysis of a double-deck train. This study is the result of a structural analysis by the finite element method for double-deck train carbodies. The results of the study can be used as basic guidelines in designing double-deck trains in the future.

  • Recently, a double deck train is considered as the one of solutions for efficient and comfortable railroad transportation systems on busy lines without any big investment on existing railroad infra-structures in many countries. However, prior to the operations of double deck trains on existing lines, careful investigations should be performed since the double deck trains have big cross sections, high mass centers and no enough spaces for mounting electric equipments. In this paper, several operational cases of double deck trains in other countries have been reviewed for preparing double deck train operations in Korea.

  • In recent years, due to the continuous concentration of population and sharp increment of commuters around Seoul metropolitan area, traffic jam has become one of severe problems along with housing in this area. In oder to solve the problem like the one mentioned above, several countries such as Japan, France and so on gradually operate double deck trains as efficient, reliable and comfortable mass transportation systems. However, the double deck train has weak points such as big cross sectional area and high mass center that cause unsafe vehicle running performances and interface problems between the vehicles and infrastructures. Therefore, prior to operate double deck trains on the existing lines, careful investigations should be performed. For these reasons, we have investigated foreign double deck trains and studied the technologies for a double deck train as an alternative way to carry heavy transportation efficiently and comfortably.

  • The operation of double deck train have increased in many countries such as Japan france, and the Netherlands as efficient, safe and convenient alternative transportation systems. Because of continuous concentration of population into Seoul metropolitan and serious traffic jam, the number of passengers using the commuter train have been increased rapidly. Considering these situations, we can find one of the solutions for heavy traffic problems through double deck trains. Stainless steel, and aluminum extruded panel are used to reduce the weight of double deck train. In this paper we compare the results of structural analysis of the double deck car body structures with Al extruded panels and stainless steel. We hope the results of this study may be used as basic guidelines in designing double deck trains in the future.

  • Double-deck train have studied in the next generation train in KRRI. Double-deck train have more seat capacities compared with single deck vehicles and is a efficient, reliable and comfortable alternative train. Because of heavy weight, weight minimization of double-deck train carbody is imperative to reduce cost and extend life-time of train. Weight minimization problem of the double-deck train car-body is required to decide 66 design variables of thicknesses for large aluminum extruded panel while satisfying stress constraints. Design variables are too many and one execution of structural analysis of double-deck train carbody is time-consuming. Therefore, we adopt approximation technique to save computational cost of optimization process. Metamodels such as response surface model (RSM) and kriging model are used to approximate model-based optimization is described. RSM is easy to obtain and expressed explicit function, but this is not suitable for highly nonlinear and large scaled problems. Kriging model employs an interpolation scheme and is developed in the fields of spatial statistics and geostatistics. Target of this design is to find optimum thickness of AEP to minimize weight of doulbe-deck train carbody. In this study, meta model techniques are introduced to carry out weight minimization of a double-deck train car-body.

  • Currently, many countries in the world operate double deck trains as one of the efficient, reliable and comfortable mass transportation systems. However, double deck trains have relatively big cross sectional areas that cause interface problems between the vehicles and infrastructures, and do not have enough spaces for installing electric equipments. Therefore, prior to the operation of double deck trains on the existing lines in Korea, careful investigations should be performed. In this study, we have designed the concept model of a double deck EMU train system and analyzed related problems.

Stability evaluation of a double-deck tunnel with diverging section

  • Due to the various restrictions and problems related to the construction of new roads in urban areas, underground road construction has been receiving a great deal of attention in the field of tunnel engineering. In this study, a double-deck road tunnel with a diverging section was analyzed for the evaluation of its stability. Both numerical analysis and scale model tests were performed, the results were used to develop a stability evaluation method for double-deck tunnels with diverging sections constructed in rocks by NATM. From regression analyses conducted on the results of the numerical analysis, an equation and a chart were derived, these tools allow us to obtain the strength/stress ratio (SSR) for double-deck road tunnels with a diverging tunnel in various diverging conditions quickly and accurately. These tools have great potential to help engineers evaluate the stability of double-deck tunnels in the preliminary design stage.

효율적 하부데크의 자유면 형성을 위한 수직방향 데크 단차 제안 (Proposal of Vertical Direction Deck Delay Time for Efficient Formation of Free Surface of Bottom Deck)

  • 본 연구에서는 굴착 물량 증대와 발파공해 저감을 위해서 전자뇌관을 이용한 수직방향 더블 데크 공법을 적용하였다. 더블 데크 공법은 상부 데크 발파 후 자유면이 완전히 형성되지 않은 상태에서 하부 데크 발파가 진행되면 발파 효율이 감소할 가능성이 있다. 이와 같은 이유로 더블 데크 공법은 데크 단차에 따라서 발파 효율이 달라진다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 홀 단차의 1~5배를 적용한 4가지 데크 단차를 제안하였고, 발파 후 파쇄도 분석을 통해 발파 효율을 평가하였다. 파쇄도 평가 결과 패턴 4(데크 단차=홀 단차×5)의 파쇄도가 가장 좋았으며, 패턴 3(데크 단차=홀 단차×3) 이상에서 파쇄효율이 큰 폭으로 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 따라 수직방향 더블 데크 발파 시 데크 단차는 최소 홀 단차의 3배 이상이 되어야 효율적인 발파 효과를 얻을 수 있다고 분석되었다.

  • In this paper, traction system and electric devices of a double deck train were designed to examine technical reasonableness for driving on the ground and underground. Double deck trains operated in other countries were also considered. For designing the electric devices, two types of accelerations and electric devices arrangements which are based on the current subway system were considered.

대심도 복층터널의 다목적 활용을 위한 입지선정 및 통수성능 평가 (A Study on site selection criteria and discharge capability evaluation for the multi-purpose use of a double-deck tunnel in a great depth)

  • 최근 도시지역의 홍수방지 및 지정체 반복구간의 교통문제 해결을 위해 다목적 대심도 복층터널의 건설이 요구되고 있다. 다목적 복층터널은 주기능인 도로기능 이외에 다목적 기능을 부여해 지하공간의 효율적인 활용을 위해 도입이 절실하다. 본 연구에서는 도심지 치수능력 증진과 도로터널의 기능을 동시에 고려하기 위한 입지선정 조건과 복층터널의 단면 구역별 처리가능한 유량에 대한 기초검토를 수행하였다. 터널의 용도별 입지선정 기준 검토를 통해 복층터널의 다목적 활용을 위한 입지선정 기준 방안을 제시하고 있다. 또한 대심도 복층터널의 다목적 활용성 검토를 위해 계획단면에 대한 홍수시 처리 가능 유량을 검토하였다. 본 연구로부터 복층터널의 입지선정은 다양한 분석을 통한 복합적인 고려가 필요함을 알 수 있다.
