  • This paper presents development of train performance simulation(TPS) program to analyze traction performance, braking performance and energy consumption for Korea high speed railway system. The conventional TPS program have some inconveniences such as DOS-based platform, user interface and limited function. The simulation technique model using scenario menu, various analysis function and object-oriented design/programming is presented. This simulation result have been compared with Alstom's for the Seoul-Pusan High Speed Rail Project.

  • Unstable pelvic ring lesions are usually treated with internal fixation. In patients presenting clinical instability or soft tissue complication risk, external fixation is a safe treatment option. However, pin tract infection, insufficient biomechanical properties, difficulty sitting and changing decubitus are important drawbacks related to the treatment. The present study reports the association of anterior and posterior subcutaneous internal fixation by applying spine-designed implants on the pelvic ring disruption: supra-acetabular pedicle screws with an interconnecting rod (Infix), plus posterior transiliac fixation with the same system, which the authors have named the "Hula Hoop Technique".

  • Organic semiconductors, in contrast with inorganic semiconductors, have DOS of the Gaussian distribution function which leads to difficulties to obtain the electron density with a closed equation. For this reason, the prediction of the device operation is extremely difficult in the development of OLED and the repetitive trial-and-error is required to find the appropriate electrical and optical properties of the devices. In this paper, the standard to analyze organic semiconductor is proposed by the optimization of the time and the accuracy which is necessary for the numerical calculation of the electron density in organic semiconductors.

  • The growing use of laparoscopy in elective surgery has led to its increase utilization in emergency surgery. However, the employment of laparoscopy in abdominal trauma is still unusual. Here in we report a case of a patient with blunt abdominal trauma that resulted in a combination of exceptional traumatic lesions, diaphragmatic and bladder lacerations. Both injuries were diagnosed and successfully resolved by laparoscopy. The report of this type of lesions and resolution is extremely rare, being this the second case described in the international literature. This article intends to show that laparoscopy may not only be used as a diagnostic tool, but also as a therapeutic instrument in selected cases of blunt abdominal trauma.

  • Four different polymer compounds were prepared from four kinds of plasticizers, viz. di-2-ethylhexyl azelate (DOZ), di-2-ethylhexyl adipate (DOA), di-2-ethylhexyl sebacate (DOS), and di-2-butyl sebacate (DBS), for making cable sheaths for ships. Ethylene-vinyl acetate and ethylene-propylene-diene-copolymer as matrix polymers and ethylene-vinyl acetate grafted maleic anhydride as a coupling agent were compounded with a flame retardant, crosslinking agent, filler, and other additives, besides the plasticizer to obtain the polymer compounds. The polymer containing DOZ showed the highest MH and ${\Delta}T$ in the rheology test, while that containing DBS was found to have the lowest tensile strength and highest elongation because of low ${\Delta}T$. The four polymers showed similar values (31.7-31.9) for flame resistance, while the polymer containing DOZ showed the highest value for cold resistance.

  • This work aims to simulate three-dimensional heavy oil flow in a reservoir with heater-wells. Mass, momentum and energy balances, as well as correlations for rock and fluid properties, are used to obtain non-linear partial differential equations for the fluid pressure and temperature, and for the rock temperature. Heat transfer is simulated using a two-equation model that is more appropriate when fluid and rock have very different thermal properties, and we also perform comparisons between one- and two-equation models. The governing equations are discretized using the Finite Volume Method. For the numerical solution, we apply a linearization and an operator splitting. As a consequence, three algebraic subsystems of linearized equations are solved using the Conjugate Gradient Method. The results obtained show the suitability of the numerical method and the technical feasibility of heating the reservoir with static equipment.

  • In order to find out the relationship between electronic structures of metal oxychlorides (MOCl) and their physicochemical properties, we have carried out the tight-binding band electronic structure calculations with Extended Huckel (EH) method for TiOCl, VOCl and FeOCl. The relative contribution of metal atom to DOS at Fermi level increases in the order of Ti, V and Fe, which is parallel to the reactivities of MOCl toward guest species. The M2+ ion plays a crucial role in the electric conductivity of MOCl and its intercalation compounds. Hopping conduction theory is applied to explain the increase of conductivity after intercalation.

  • The band structure of nickel monoxide having a cation defect rock salt structure is calculated by means of the tight-binding extended Huckel method. The calculation is also made for the net charge, the DOS, the COOP, the electron density of the constituent atoms, and the O 1s binding energy shift when one of the adjacent nickel atoms is defected. It is found that the band gap near the Γ direction on the Brillouin zone is about 0.2 eV, and that all of the properties calculated including the electronic structure of the oxygen atom are more effectively affected by the surface defect than the inside one. The core O 1s binding energy shift is calculated by the use of valence potential method and the results are very satisfactory in comparison with the XPS experimental findings.

  • Applying Varying Pseudonym (VP) to design of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) authentication protocol outperforms the other existing approaches in several respects. However, this approach is prone to the well-known denial-ofservice (DOS) attack. In this paper, we examine the de-synchronization problems of VP-based RFID authentication protocols, and propose effective solutions to eliminate such weaknesses. We shall show that the proposed solutions indeed improve the security for these protocols, and moreover, these solutions require 0(1) computational cost for identitying a tag and 0(1) key space on the tag. These excellent performances make them very attractive to many RFID applications.
