The unstable signature that is defined as frequency change with respect to the time or frequency modulation, is caused by the external loading variation in specific machinery component and Doppler shift etc. In this study, we analyze the generation mechanism of the unstable signature and apply the Extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm for its detection. The performance of Extended Kalman Filter is examined for numerical and measured signals and the results show its validity for unstable signature detection.

As one of solutions to pursue the efficient use of spectrum resource, we proposed the methodology for the co-channel multi-site radar operations with the synchronous GPS clock. The proposed algorithm, based on a quasi orthogonal property, find a candidate set of the time shifted linear frequency modulation(TSLFM) signals with the minimum acceptable level of the correlation among selected TSLFM signals. To check suggested algorithm, numerical analysis for several radars operating in the same channel with a sawtooth waveform has been performed by using range-Doppler processing for the given system parameters, and computational results are presented and examined in terms of range profile and doppler shift for a targets with velocity and distance. Simulated results have a good agreement with assumed target distance and its velocity, within the error of resolution.

Underwater acoustic communication channels have very complex channel characteristics caused by time-varying sea surface, submarine topography, sound speed, and geometry between transmitter and receiver. Especially, the channel has time-variance and doppler effect due to wind and sea current. We have to recognize the channel state and apply it to communication technique for increasing transmission efficiency in the underwater acoustic channel. In this paper, we present the frame recursive modulation and demodulation method using ambiguity function and autocorrelation function to estimate the doppler frequency. Furthermore, we conducted the simulation and sea experiment to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. When the channel coding technique was not used, the bit error rate performance of the proposed method was improved about 32 % compared with conventional method.

Numerical simulation technique has been developed to calculate microwave backscattering from water surface. The simulation plays a role of a substitute for experiments. Validation of the simulation was shown by comparing with experimental results. Water area observations by microwave radar have been simulated to evaluate algorithms and systems. Furthermore, the simulation can be used to understand microwave scattering mechanism on the water surface. The simulation has applied to the various methods for water area observations, and the utilizations of the simulation are introduced in this paper. In the case of fixed radar, we show following examples, 1. Radar image with a pulse Doppler radar, 2. Effect of microwave irradiation width and 3. River observation (Water level observation). In addition, another application (4.Synthetic aperture radar image) is also described. The details of the applications are as follows. 1. Radar image with a pulse Doppler radar: A new system for the sea surface observation is suggested by the simulation. A pulse Doppler radar is assumed to obtain radar images that display amplitude and frequency modulation of backscattered microwaves. The simulation results show that the radar images of the frequency modulation is useful to measure sea surface waves. 2. Effect of microwave irradiation width: It is reported (Rheem[2008]) that microwave irradiation width on the sea surface affects Doppler spectra measured by a CW (Continuous wave) Doppler radar. Therefore the relation between the microwave irradiation width and the Doppler spectra is evaluated numerically. We have shown the suitable condition for wave height estimation by a Doppler radar. 3. River observation (Water level observation): We have also evaluated algorithms to estimate water current and water level of river. The same algorithms to estimate sea surface current and sea surface level are applied to the river observation. The simulation is conducted to confirm the accuracy of the river observation by using a pulse Doppler radar. 4. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image: SAR images are helpful to observe the global sea surface. However, imaging mechanisms are complicated and validation of analytical algorithms by SAR images is quite difficult. In order to deal with the problems, SAR images in oceanic scenes are simulated.

In this paper, a 2.4 GHz doppler radar system consisting of a doppler radar sensor and a baseband module were designed to detect heart beat and respiration signal without direct skin contact. The doppler radar system emits RF signal of 2.4 GHz toward human chest, and then detects phase modulation of the reflected signal so as to investigate cardiopulmonary activities. The heartbeat and respiration signals acquired from I/Q channels of the doppler radar system are applied to the pre-processing circuit, the amplification circuit, and the offset circuit of the baseband module. The designed system was tested on mouse, rabbit and mankind, which have different range of heart rates and respiration signals, to evaluate detection accuracy of the system. ECG acquisition system and respiration transducer were used to generate the reference signal. In our experiments, a performance of detection were found to be high in the case that the subject stays still. In this paper, we confirmed that non-contact heart beat and respiration detection using the doppler radar has the possibility and limitation according to distance, cardiopulmonary activities, range of heart rates and respiration.

OFDM is one of the promising modulation candidates for a fourth generation broadband mobile communication system because of its robustness against inter-symbol inteference(ISI). The OFDM transmission technique has the inherent flexibility to adapt the modulation scheme on each subcarrier according to the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR). In this paper, the adaptive modulation scheme of OFDM system is proposed in broadband mobile channel. The proposed algorithm allocates initially the number of bits in each subcarrier using the threshold SNR according to the target BER and controls the total number of target bits using the well-known algorithm of Chow et al. In addition, the subcarriers of the proposed algorithm are clustered in blocks, that the signalling overhead can be reduced for the bit allocation of subcarriers. For the simulated experiments, this paper presents an evaluation for the effects of target BER, the various numbers of subcarriers in the subband block, and Doppler frequency on the performance of adaptive OFDM in broadband mobile channel.
LMC X-4 is an eclipsing high-mass X-ray binary exhibiting a superorbital modulation with a period of ~ 30:5 days. We present a detailed study of the variations of the superorbital modulation period with a time baseline of ~ 18 years. The period determined in the light curve collected by the Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) significantly deviates from that observed by the All Sky Monitor (ASM) onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). Using the data collected by RXTE/ASM, MAXI, and the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) onboard Swift, we found a significant period derivative, $\dot{P}=(2.08{\pm}0.12){\times}10^{-5}$. Furthermore, the O{C residual shows complex short-term variations indicating that the superorbital modulation of LMC X-4 exhibits complicated unstable behaviors. In addition, we used archive data collected by the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) on RXTE to estimate the orbital and spin parameters. The detected pulse frequencies obtained in small time segments were fitted with a circular orbital Doppler shift model. In addition to orbital parameters and spin frequency for each observation, we found a spin frequency derivative of $\dot{v}=(6.482{\pm}0.011){\times}10^{-13}Hz{\cdot}s^{-1}$. More precise orbital and spin parameters will be evaluated by the pulse arrival time delay technique in the future.

When we apply the spectrally efficient quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) to mobile communications, it is necessary to estimate and compensate the channel charac- teristics. In this paper, a new type fading estimation method for PSAM using sinc function is presented. Gaussian interpolation method has a drawback that the performance degrades rapidly if pilot symbol period increases even though pilot sysbol period is less than Nyquist sampling rate. The Wiener filter method does not degrade until pilot symbol period is equal to the Nyquist sampling rate. It is difficult for Wiener filter method to be applied to real system because autocorrelation function of channel gain, Doppler frequency and SNR(signal to noise ratio) must be known to optimize the filter coefficients. But proposed method has a similar performance to the Wiener filter method, and does not need to know the autocorrelation function of channel gain, the doppler frequency and SNR. Therefore the proposed method cna be applied to real system easily.
In this paper, a new try to measure nonlinear propagation characteristics of the pulse along blood vessel by using bispectral analysis is introduced, and the possibility of its application to the medical diagnosis is shown. In this method, the waveforms of pulse motion of blood vessel at two separated measuring points on the wall were detected from Doppler frequency modulation of transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then the auto- and crossbispectrum of detected waveforms are calculated to estimate the quadratic NTF (nonlinear transfer function) between the two measuring positions. In order to show relationships between the NTF and the nonlinear propagation characteristics, computer simulations have been performed. As the propagation distance increases, harmonic frequency components in NTF increases broadly due to the nonlinear effect in the propagation of blood pulse. In order to represent this phenomena quantitatively, we propose a new parameter, dispersion ratio of WTF. Basic experimental system was constructed by using 3.5MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the preliminary experiments were carried out on ague phantom and human body. Experimental results showed the validity of the measurement system enoughly.

In modern warfare, the importance of electronic warfare, which carries out a mission that using radio wave to find out enemy information or to protect ally information, has increased. Radar jamming technique is one of the most representative techniques of EA(Electronic Attack), it disturbs and deceives enemy radar system in order to secure ally location information. Velocity deception jamming technique, which is one of the radar jamming techniques, generally operate against pulse-doppler radar which use doppler effect in order to track target's velocity and location. Velocity Deception Jamming Technique can be implemented using DRFM(Digital Radio Frequency Memory) that performs Frequency Modulation. In this paper, I describe implementation method of VGPO/VGPI(Velocity Gate Pull-Off/Pull-In) velocity deception jamming technique using phase-sampled DRFM, and verify the operation of VGPO/VGPI velocity deception jamming technique with board test under signal injection condition.
