  • This paper deals with a method to predict the noise level inside metro electric cars running a single-line tunnel at the speed of 80km per hour using ray tracing method, a kind of ray acoustics generally used for a high-frequency and air-born noise analysis. The interior of the car including a under-frame, seats, side doors, end doors, door-pockets, side panels, end panel, a roof panel and so on is modeled. And in order to describe the noise power coming inside, artificial noise sources are designated using sound transmission loss data of each section measured from simple tests and external noise level. The noise level inside the car is calculated and its properties are investigated. The results satisfy the criteria on noise level inside the car.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a prediction model for evaluating heavy-weight floor impact sounds in a test building. Three rooms in the test building (slab thickness In and 240mm), which consist of frame concrete structures were tested and modeled. First, the SPL distribution in the receiving room was analyzed by measuring SPL at 90 positions using a bang machine. Then, a vibration model using finite element method is proposed considering the material properties and boundary conditions. In addition, the result of transient analysis was compared with field measurements using a standard heavy-weight impact source. Through a vibro-acoustic simulation program, an acoustic model evaluating the building elements (reflected wall, nor, window and door) was proposed. Finally, validation of the prediction model was conducted by vibro-acoustic analysis with field measurements of noise radiation characteristics in receiving rooms.

  • The purpose of this study is to critically investigate the ways in which scholars and architects in Korea have theorised the tradition in Korean architecture from the early 20th century to the present. After opening the door to foreign powers, the most important issue to be resolved in Korea architecture has been the modernization of the traditional architecture. The successful modernization of Korean traditional architecture depends on successful theorization of the tradition. However, many attempts to theorise the uniqueness of tradition in Korean architecture had not been instrumental to the modernization of Korean traditional architecture. The reason why they were not successful lies in the lack of philosophical and methodological reflection upon how to approach the tradition. They were either trapped in ambiguous essentialism without systematic methods and theories, or simply inventing the tradition from the vantage point of the present. This paper argues that in order to theorise the tradition, one need to translate the tradition into contemporary architectural vocabularies. What is important in translating the tradition is not to directly apply contemporary concepts and perceptual frame of architecture to traditional architecture but to find the gaps and differences between the two. This will open hermeneutic spaces to translate the tradition into useful principles and vocabularies of comtemporary architecture.

  • This study was carried out to find the cases of change in the Anglican Church including its rectory in Onsuri, Gangwha island, which was built in Korean traditional architecture style. The materials used for the study were published books, old photos taken before the change, drawings, and field survey. The result are as followings. 1) Painting concealed natural wooden grain should be removed as well as carpet on the wooden floor. The way of ceiling finishing is to be restored as traditional way. 2) Refer to the rectory, it needs to be restored totally, since it has been changed many times through partial renovation. It lacks unification of design in entire elevation, windows and door. The practical spaces such as indoor flush toilet and boiler room are desirable not to be revealed or designed in harmony with other spaces. 3) Stript flooring in the rectory are to be restored to frame flooring, room finishing including vinyl flooring, vinyl wall paper and moulding along the cornice to the traditional paper finish. Lattice patterns of windows and doors are recommended to be restored according to the traditional design.

  • Springback, an elastic material recovery after the unloading of stamping tools, causes variations and inconsistencies of final part dimensions. Recently, narrow and long surround molding parts around door frame are applied to high grade automobiles, but there are great difficulties in their die development, construction and tryout because of several springback modes including vertical movement and twist during flange forming process of them. So it is very important to predict springback's quantities of a surround molding part and, moreover, to compensate the die for them adequately, when they can't be corrected by the restrike operation. This paper presents a case study based on the die design for a surround molding part made of stainless steel. The forming and springback predictions, carried out using PAMSTAMP 2G, are reported and compared with the measurement data of the prototype. The predicted springback results were acceptable, so the processes of compensating die using Automatic Die Compensation Module of PAMSTAMP 2G were performed iteratively until the tolerances between the designed shape and the simulation data were satisfied.

  • An easy learning elevator originated is opened to compare the existed teaming equipment, and it had a high studied efficiency that the sequence control circuit can open and close with the wire. The structure of equipment to be controlled from the first floor to the fifth floors is demostrated by the constructive apparatus with the lamps to express the function of the open-close of the door according to the cage moving with a mechanical actuation of the forward reverse breaker and the motor of load, and the mechanical actuation of hand-operation control components of push-button S/W and L/S and relay etc. These components let connect each other in order to control of the elevator function with the auto program and the designed sequence control circuit. Consequently the cage could go and come till 1∼5 steps with an auto program of the elevator and the sequence control circuit. The sequence control circuit is controlled by the step of forward and reverse to follow as that the sensor function of L/S1 ∼ L/S5 let posit with the control switchs of S/W1 ∼ S/W5 of PLC testing panel and switchs of S/W1 ∼ S/W5 installed on the transparent acryl plate of the frame. In here, improved apparatus is the hand-auto operation combined learning equipment to study the principle and technique of the originate sequence control circuit and the auto program of PLC.

  • One of the most popular and commonly used strengthening techniques to protect against earthquakes is to infill the holes in reinforced concrete (RC) frames with fully reinforced concrete infills. In some cases, windows and door openings are left inside infill walls for architectural or functional reasons during the strengthening of reinforced concrete-framed buildings. However, the seismic performance of multistory, multibay, reinforced concrete frames that are strengthened by reinforced concrete wing walls is not well known. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the experimental behavior of vulnerable multistory, multibay, reinforced concrete frames that were strengthened by introducing wing walls under a lateral load. For this purpose, three 2-story, 2-bay, 1/3-scale test specimens were constructed and tested under reversed cyclic lateral loading. The total shear wall (including the column and wing walls) length and the location of the bent beam bars were the main parameters of the experimental study. According to the test results, the addition of wing walls to reinforced concrete frames provided significantly higher ultimate lateral load strength and higher initial stiffness than the bare frames did. While the total shear wall length was increased, the lateral load carrying capacity and stiffness increased significantly.

  • This paper presents a method to generate stained-glass animation from video inputs. The method initially segments an input video volume into several regions considered as fragments of glass by mean-shift segmentation. However, the segmentation predominantly results in over-segmentation, causing several tiny segments in a highly textured area. In practice, assembling significantly tiny or large glass fragments is avoided to ensure architectural stability in stained glass manufacturing. Therefore, we use low-frequency components in the segmentation to prevent over-segmentation and subdivide segmented regions that are oversized. The subdividing must be coherent between adjacent frames to prevent temporal artefacts, such as flickering and the shower door effect. To temporally subdivide regions coherently, we obtain a panoramic image from the segmented regions in input frames, subdivide it using a weighted Voronoi diagram, and thereafter project the subdivided regions onto the input frames. To render stained glass fragment for each coherent region, we determine the optimal match glass fragment for the region from a dataset consisting of real stained-glass fragment images and transfer its color and texture to the region. Finally, applying lead came at the boundary of the regions in each frame yields temporally coherent stained-glass animation.
