  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the original texts with quotations in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam and to find out the ideas of Huh Jun(許浚, 1546-1615; the author of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam) in there. Methods: I compared the original texts with quotations in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam. Results: 1. There is only one quoted sentence which perfectly matches with original text in 16 Kinds of Cough Part in Haesu Chapter of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam. The other sentences are all modified while they are quoted by Huh Jun, at least one word. 2. The arrangement order of 'medical effect', 'consisting medicines and their dosages' and 'doctrine in application' were rearranged following the form of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam when being quoted. 3. In cases of reciting the text, Huh Jun tries to clarify the original source of the context. However, instead of using original quotations he recited rephrased quotes from other sources. 4. Huh Jun cites from not only cough parts of other texts but also asthma(喘症) or heat(積熱) parts. 5. Titles of original text books are recorded in the end of all sentences of Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam, but there are a few wrong titles recorded. Conclusion: In consideration of the above-mentioned, the Dong-Yi-Bo-Gam is not the mere collection of various Oriental Medical books, but the Classic of Oriental Medicine to hold Huh Jun's own opinion.

  • This paper is sequel to the paper titled 'A study on research methodology of the quoted verses in Dong-uisusebowon(2)'. In the previous study, Tao-ren-cheng-qi-tang(桃仁承氣湯) and Di-dang-tang (抵當湯) lines from Shanghanlun quoted in the Dong-uisusebowon were examined. Through this study, we learned that Heo, Jun corrected these texts in the Dong-uibogam to avoid logical contradiction, which were again quoted by Yi, Jema in the Dong-uisusebowon. Thus the quotations in Yi's book were also corrected of the contradictory lines as found in the source text, Shanghanlun. In this paper, I would like to examine the lines regarding Jeokseokji-uyeoryang-tang(赤石脂禹餘糧湯) and Gan-cao-xie-xin-tang(甘草瀉心湯). Firstly, in the case of Jeokseokji-uyeoryang-tang(赤石脂禹餘糧湯) lines, many changes in contents were made to resolve contradiction within the lines as previous cases. By quoting the Dong-uibogam directly, Yi, Jema inherited the thoughts of Heo, Jun in his work. Secondly, in the case of Gan-cao-xie-xin-tang(甘草瀉心湯) lines, Heo, Jun suggested new perspectives on Pi(痞, stuffiness) and Jie-xiong(結胸, chest bind) different to those of Zhang Zhong Jing, based on empirical knowledge of later days. Yi, Jema quoted these corrected lines, which implies Yi's agreement to the theories of Heo. However, Yi made clear his difference in perspective with Heo through his unique theory of the Four(Sasang) Constitutions. I conclude my research regarding quotations in the Dong-uisusebowon by stressing the necessity of research on the Dong-uibogam prior to any further research regarding quotations in the Dong-uisusebowon.

  • I had come at the conclusion of the development history of Disease Bi(痞病) reflected in Yi Cheon (李梴)'s work, "Euhakibmun(醫學入門)" in the respects of the causes, mechanism, symptoms, differential diagnosis and treatments. The causes of Disease Bi(痞病) mentioned at "Euhakibmun(醫學入門)" followed the Ju Dan-Gyeo(朱丹溪)'s theory. The mechanism of it went after the viewpoints of "Nae-Gyeong(內經)", Jang Jung-Gyeong(張仲景), Yi Dong-Won(李東垣) and Wang Ho-Go(王好古). The symptoms of it kept the Ju Dan-Gyeo(朱丹溪)'s theory. Yi Cheon distinguished Disease Bi(痞病) from Gyeol-Hyung(結胸) according to Jang Jung-Gyeong's theory. He knew it from abdominal dropsy(脹滿) according to Ju Dan-Gyeo's theory. He also divided it into two respects of deficiency(虛) and excessive(實) from Yi Dong-Won's viewpoint. Jang Jung-Gyeong first suggested that treatments of it could be selected according to the difference of deficiency, excessive(實), cold(寒), hot(熱), sputum(痰), fluid(飮), blood(血) and food(食). Yi Dong-Won insisted many doctors could make a mistake because they only used herbs for Gi(氣藥) instead of herbs for blood(血藥) together. Wang Ho-Go(王好古) maintained his opinion that treatments of both digestion(消導) and assistance(補益), remedies of bitter and hot herbs can recover patients from Disease Bi(痞病). Yi Cheon followed their theories properly.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical effects of HongYi pharmacopuncture monotherapy on female voiding dysfunction. Methods: Korean medical practitioners who used HongYi pharmacopuncture to treat female patients complaining of dysuria were surveyed. They performed a retrospective chart review of 31 female patients who visited their Korean medical clinic for dysuria. General characteristics, marital status, urologic medical history, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire-Female Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (ICIQ-FLUTS), and related adverse events were examined. Results: Of 31 cases received, 29 were selected for analysis. Two cases were excluded because treatment was not continued through four weeks. In all cases, IPSS and ICIQ-FLUTS scores were significantly decreased after treatment. Adverse reactions occurred during treatment in four cases. Conclusions: These results suggest that treatment by HongYi pharmacopuncture is effective in improving lower urinary tract symptoms in women. Further studies will be needed for evaluation of clinical responses, to evaluate the safety and efficacy of HongYi pharmacopuncture treatment for female patients complaining of dysuria.

  • DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑) is Joseon's classic medical text that has great significance in the medical history of Korea. However, the context of the treatments of accupuncuret&moxibustion in the book are hardly studied. This study is for the purpose of examining the treatments of accupuncuret&moxibustion in DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), and it starts with studying the accupuncuret&moxibustion part of DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑)'s NaeGyeong Chapter(內景篇) for starters. Through this study, the following could be known. 1. In DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑)'s NaeGyeong Chapter(內景篇), it is written that it quoted many various books, but actually, most of the parts are quoted from LouYing(樓英)'s YiXueGangMu (醫學綱目). 2. LouYing(樓英)'s YiXueGangMu(醫學綱目) is a work of the Ming Dynasty, which is when China's study of accupuncure&moxibustion was completed and many books on accupuncure&moxibustion were published. 3. However, in DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), it mainly quotes from YiXueGangMu(醫學綱目), instead of these professional acupuncture&moxibustion texts. This is because this book is a comprehensive medical text with various medical theories, which share the same flow with DongUiBoGam(東醫寶鑑), and at the same time, it organized the treatments of accupuncure&moxibustion in a big scale in various ways.
