Methods: We measured the facial palsy changes of the patients who were admitted for Bell's palsy in the Oriental Medical hospital of Dongeui medical center from 07-01-2003 to 09-30-2003. Bell's palsy patients were divided into two groups. One group(A group) was treated by acupuncture. The other group(B group) was treated by Dong's acupuncture. The effects of these treatment was evaluated by Yanagihara's unweighted grading system. Results : B group was marked more higher than A group in treatment outcome. we discovered that it is significant differences between two groups after 2 week. Conclusion : These results provided that A group is more effective than B group on. For clearly comparing the Effect of Acupuncture and Dong's Acupuncture on Bell's palsy, it is need more sample's number and more treatment's duration.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this case is to report the improvement after treatment about a patient with cerebral infarction by Sa-Am's Ohaeng-acupuncture and Liuqi-acupuncture. Methods : We treated the patient with acupuncture therapy from 6th September 2004 to 15th November 2004 by reinforcing Dadun(Liv 1) Zusan Li(S36) Quchi(Li 11) and reducing Taibai(Sp 3) on the basis of Etiological Analysis and Differenciation of Endogenous Wind caused by Damp Phlegm and heat. Results .1. Right hemiplegia improved Gr. I to Gr.IV after acupuncture therapy. 2. we interpreted 'reinforcing Dadun(Liv 1) and reducing Taibai(SP 3)'as using Simjeonggyeok in conjunction with Simseunggyeok on the basis of Sa-Am's Ohaeng-acupuncture. 3. we interpreted 'reinforcing Dadun(Liv 1) and reducing Taibai(Sp 3)'as Excreting Dampness in Spleen on the basis of Liuqi-acupuncture. 4. we interpreted 'reinforcing Zusan Li(S 36) and Quchi(Li 11)'as Eliminating Wind-dampness and Menstrual Regulation.

  • Objective : The aim of this study was to assess the improvement of Bell's Palsy by Yanagihara's System. Methods : Early admission care, western medicine, acupuncture and electrical stimulation was applied to the 22 patients who dignosisd as Bell's palsy. The effects of these treatment was evaluated by Yanagihara's unweighted grading system. Results : After 25 day treatment the mean values of the Yanagihara's score($26.90{\pm}9.53$) showed stastically significant improvement in comparison with pre-treatment($8.68{\pm}5.13$). Conclusion : These results provided that the early admission care, western medicine, acupuncture and electrical stimulation is a valuable treatment for Bell's palsy. Further case control study is need to confirm the effect of above treatment on Bell's palsy.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to find out proper method for clinical application of acupoints in Bell's palsy patients by using of digital infrared thermographic imaging(DITI). Methods : We investigated 44 cases of patients with Bell's palsy and checked thermal differences between abnormal and normal acupoint sites by using of DITI. Then we drew a comparison between acupoints of DITI and HBGS, ENoG, NET. We used Pearson's correlation for statistical analysis. Results : The HBGS was significantly correlated with ENoG, NET. The thermal difference of ST3 was significantly correlated with HBGS, Lip and Buccal abnormal site of NET. And the thermal differences between ST3 and GB21 were significantly correlated with ENoG, Forehead abnormal site of NET. Conclusions : Severity of Bell's palsy can be evaluated through DITI.

Patients with De Quervain's usually report pain at the dorsolateral aspect of the wrist with referral of pain toward the thumb and/or lateral forearm. This condition responds well to nonsurgical treatment. Objective : The aim of this study was to find out the therapeutic effect of the Cervus elaphus Herbal-acupuncture in the treatment of patients with De Quervain's Disease. Design : A prospective study of Cervus elaphus Herbal-acupuncture was conducted. Setting : The study was conducted in the Kang-nam Oriental Hosp. of Dong-Guk University. Patients : The study comprised 4 patients with De Quervain's Disease. Methods : We investigated 4 cases patients the De Quervain's Disease. We evaluated wrist function that before and after Cervus elaphus Herbal-acupuncture treatment by VAS score, tenderness and Finkelstein test. the treatment is operated every other day. Results : Pain reduction(VAS) was found out in the case treated with Cervus elaphus Herbal-acupuncture. Conclusions : Clinical results show that Cervus elaphus Herbal-acupuncture has a good analgesic effect in De Quervain's Disease.

Patients's MMPI scores were compared with Korean standard of MMPI. Results: The validity scales were within normal range. The neurosis clinical scales were within normal range. The other clinical scales were within normal range. The study of Two code method showed that D scale and Hy scale was higher than the other clinical scales. Bell's palsy patients's D scale and Hy scale means were higher than Korean standard of MMPI.

Results : The Yanagihara,s scores of 2 groups showed stastically significant improvement in comparison with pre-treatment. In improvement index after treatment, the Yanagihara,s scores of 2 groups increased but were not stastically significant the difference. Conclusion : These results provided that the admission care may not be a valuable treatment for Bell's palsy. Further study is needed to evaluate the effect of early admission care on Bell's palsy.
