  • In order to understand variation and relationship between standing crops and biomass of phytoplankton dominant species for the long term periods, this study was seasonally investigated in the marine ranching ground of Tongyeong coastal waters from 2000 to 2007. Total 268 taxa representing 217 Bacillariophyceae, 46 Dinophyceae, 4 Dictychophyceae, 1 Euglenophyceae were observed in phytoplankton communities. Dominant species consisted of 5 species as standard in standing crops: Chaetoceros curvisetus (18.01%), Chaetoceros socialis (12.95%), Skeletonema costatum (8.39%), Chaetoceros compressus (6.87%), Asterionellopsis glacialis (5.02%). However, to determine dominant species as biomass concept, Ditylum brightwellii, Guinardia striata, Rhizosolenia spp. and Skeletonema costatum were occupied with dominant species (19.67%). As determining for cell sizes, dominant species were divided with two groups such as micro- and nanophytoplankton (standing crops) and mesophytoplankton (biomass). However, Skeletonema costatum in anophytoplankton was associated to affect fluctuation between standing crops and biomass.

  • Five hundrad and eight rats were caught in Shiheung-dong and Mt. Kwan-ak from 1986 to 1987 in this survey. Ectoparasites were got from these rats and classified. The results were as follows: 9,191 mites (16 genera, 30 species), 408 fleas (4 genera, 4 species), and 521 lice (3 genera, 5 species) were observed in this survey. In the residential area, Rattus norvesicus(71.74%) was dominant species and in Mt. Kwan-ak Apodemus agrarius(93.62%). In these areas, the mites belonging to suborder Mesostigmata were dominant (Laelaps nuttli, 52.61%; Ornithonyssus bacoti, 36.05%). In Mt. Kwan-ak, family Frombiculidae belonging to suborder Prostigmata were dominant (Leptotromibidium orientalis, 31.04%; Leptotrombidium palpalis, 30.00%). In this way, it was discovered that the difference between the two regions in dominant species was noticeable. As for the hosts parasitized by mites, L. nuttalli in R. norvegicus (54.85%), L. nuttalli in R. rattus (32.90%), and L. orientalis in A. agrarius (31.27%) were dominant species, respectively. In the mites parasitizing on A. agrarius in each altitude, the species were more varied as the region was lower and the dominant species were more concentrated as it was higher.

  • This study aims at analyzing relationships between land use and habitat types of winter wildbirds to provide basic understanding of ecosystem for preservation and restoration of urban ecosystem in the future. The research area is Hanam City. Researches on land use types showed Hanam City had 79.1% of greenspace and openspace, but intensive urban development has been taking place in greenspace that is adjacent to urban districts. This has brought the problems of lack of greenspace in urban districts and damages to cultivated areas and grassland. A total of 61 and 8,642 populations of winter wildbird species were observed in research areas. Paradoxornis webbiann(16.91), Passer montanus(11.93), Pica pica(6.88) were dominant species. When they were divided according to habitat types, 20 species of interior species, 8 species of interior-edge generalist species, 12 species of edge species and 3 species of urban species were observed. When which land use type was mostly served as wildbirds habitats was examined, urban species(3 species and 290 populations) was a dominant species in urban districts while in greenspace and openspaece, water species(19species and 3,075 populations) including winter migratory birds was. Among greenspace and openspaece, edge species was dominant in forest while urban species was a dominant species in cultivated areas. This shows there is a need to improve diversity of wildbirds through restoration of cultivated areas in the central part of Hanam City.

  • There are 7 classes, 17 orders, and 141 species of benthic macroinvertebrates at the 5 study sites from Feb, '91 to May, '92. Total species frequency number has less variations among sites than seasonal changes. Not considering seasonal changes this indicates that there are some influences from outside pollution sources. Seasonally, Ortho chadiinae sp. 2 take 21.2% share of total species. It was the dominant species in Feb. '91. With total average level Ephemeroptera take 51.3% of total species as first dominant species. Diptera 27.8% as second dominant species and Trichoptera 16.7% as third dominant species. Through these biological indexes, they appear to have unstable living environments in summer at sites 1 and 5. One can see that site 1 is more polluted than site 3 because site 1 has more pollution sources such as pastures and recreation areas.

  • In order to investigate the distribution of dominant phytoplankton species in the coastal waters of Gori, Wolseong, Uljin and Younggwang, the standing crops of dominant species were studied during 1992-1996 and the relationships between standing crops and environmental variables were analyzed. The standing crops of diatom Skeletonema costatum, Thalassiosira decipiens, Chaetoceros debilis, Pseudo-nitzchia seriata, Paralia sulcata and dinoflgaellate Prorocentrum triestinum were on average from 16,373 to 118,549 cellso$l^{-1}$, from 11,180 to 210,313 cellso$l^{-1}$, from 23,341 to 55,889 cellso$l^{-1}$, from 6,784 to 15,766 cellso$l^{-1}$, from 342 to 41,596 cellso$l^{-1}$ and from 4,828 to 22,397 cellso$l^{-1}$ in the four study areas, respectively. The standing crops of Skeletonema costatum, Thalassiosira decipiens and Paralia sulcata were higher in Younggwang, while Chaetoceros debilis, Pseudo-nitzschia seriata and Prorocentrum triestinum were higher in Wolseong than other areas. The standing crops of silicoflgaellate Distephanus speculum were from 157 to 4,239 cellso$l^{-1}$ in the four study areas, showing an tendency increasing in Uljin. The abundance rates of Skeletonema costatum, Thalassiosira decipiens and Chaetoceros debilis were from 7.04 to 15.74%, from 6.95 to 33.69% and from 5.17 to 13.88% in the four study areas, respectivelyThe results of correlation coefficient between standing crops of dominant species and environmental variables show that phosphates were related with the distribution of dominant species in Gori, Uljin and Younggwang, while nitrogen compounds affected the distribution of dominant species in Wolseong. In addition, salinity and temperature affected the distribution of dominant species in Wolseong and Younggwang, respectively.
