  • This paper compares frequency domain and time domain predictions from the ShipMo3D ship motion library with observed motions from model tests and sea trials. ShipMo3D evaluates hull radiation and diffraction forces using the frequency domain Green function for zero forward speed, which is a suitable approach for ships travelling at moderate speed (e.g., Froude numbers up to 0.4). Numerical predictions give generally good agreement with experiments. Frequency domain and linear time domain predictions are almost identical. Evaluation of nonlinear buoyancy and incident wave forces using the instantaneous wetted hull surface gives no improvement in numerical predictions. Consistent prediction of roll motions remains a challenge for seakeeping codes due to the associated viscous effects.

  • Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a network based IP mobility management protocol. PMIPv6 make sure that the IP address of the mobile node remains the same as long as the mobile node roams with in the PMIPv6 domain. A mobile node roams with in a PMIPv6 domain. PMIPv6 protocol doesn't provide the mobility support once the mobile node moves from one PMIPv6 domain to another PMIPv6 domain. This paper proposes a Software Defined Networking (SDN) based PMIPv6 scheme which provides the mobility support for inter PMIPv6 domain movement of mobile node. In the proposed architecture each PMIPv6 domain has a SDN controller and SDN controllers from different domains communicate with each other to share the mobility information.

  • An accurate calculation of the stochastic wind field is the foundation for analyzing wind-induced structure response and reliability. In this research, the spatial correlation of structural wind field was considered based on the time domain method. A method for calculating the stochastic wind field based on cross stochastic Fourier spectrum was proposed. A flowchart of the proposed methodology is also presented in this study to represent the algorithm and workflow. Along with the analysis of regional wind speed distribution, the wind speed time history sample was calculated, and the efficiency can therefore be verified. Results show that the proposed method and programs could provide an efficient simulation for the wind-induced structure response analysis, and help determine the related parameters easily.

  • Investigation of hydroelastic responses of high-speed vessels in irregular sea state is of major interest in naval applications. A three dimensional nonlinear time-domain hydroelastic method in oblique irregular waves is developed, in which the nonlinear hydrostatic restoring force caused by instantaneous wetted surface and slamming force are considered. In order to solve the two technical problems caused by irregular sea state, the time-domain retardation function and Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) autopilot model are applied respectively. Besides, segmented model tests of a high-speed trimaran in oblique waves are performed. An oblique wave testing system for trimarans is designed and assembled. The measured results of main hull and cross-decks are analyzed, and the differences in distribution of load responses between trimarans and monohull ships are discussed. Finally, from the comparisons, it is confirmed that the present concept for dealing with nonlinear hydroelastic responses of ships in oblique irregular waves is reliable and accurate.

  • This paper proposes Internet-based checking technique for machine-tools with variant CNC (Computerized Numerical Controller). According to the architecture of CNC, CNC is classified into two types such as CAC (Closed Architecture Controller) which is conventional CNC, and OAC (Open Architecture Controller) which is a recently introduced PC-based controller. CAC has a closed architecture and it is dependent on CNC vender specification. Because of this, it has been very difficult for users to implement an application programs in CNC domain. Therefore, an additionally special module is required for Internet-based application such as remote checking. In this case, web I/O embedded module can be efficiently applied for Internet-based checking. The module is directly attached to TCP/IP network for communication. In order to obtain the monitoring data of CNC machines, the I/O signals of the module are assigned to PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) input and output (I/O) signals within CNC domain. On the other hand, OAC has a PC-based open architecture and an additional module is not necessary for the connection with external site. Because of this, a simple DAU is just used for signal sensing and data acquisition without additional communication modules. For Internet-based remote checking of machine-tools with OAC, a user-defined daemon and application programs are implemented as the form of internal function within the PC-based controller. Internet communication is performed between the daemon program in CNC domain and web script programs in external server. Checking points defined in this research are classified into two categories such as structured point and operational point. The formal includes the vibration of bearing, temperature of spindle unit and another periodical management. And the latter includes oil checking, clamp locking/unlocking and machining on/off status.

  • Single domain model like DataLake framework is in spotlight because it can improve data efficiency and process data smarter in big data environment, where large scaled business system generates huge amount of data. In particular, efficient operation of network, storage, and computing resources in logical single domain model is very important for physically partitioned multi-site data process. Based on the advantages of Data Lake framework, we define and extend the concept of Connected Data Architecture and functions of DataLake framework for integrating multiple sites in various domains and managing the lifecycle of data. Also, we propose the design of CDA-based AI service and utilization scenarios in various application domain.

  • The target strength (TS) is calculated from the measured signal using the definition of the peak TS (PTS) or the integrated TS (ITS). These two types of TS sometimes give different results depending on what the pulse duration is. In this paper, we model the scattered time signal by the numerical code based on the physical diffraction theory and examine the effect of the pulse duration on the value of PTS or ITS. The transformed TS (TTS) for the frequency domain is used as a reference solution.

  • This paper Proposes the individual roles for developing small web application systems based on the Client/Server architecture with the activities and artifacts of each role and cooperation. The roles of Web Server part (i.e. User Interface Designer, Web Designer, HTML Writer), the roles of Application Server part (i.e. Domain Expert, Application Developer, Tester) and the roles of DB Server part (i.e. Database Administrator, Data Designer) are described. Furthermore, the role of the Development Leader that participates in development and manages all works in project and finds the solutions of problems in project, is also discussed. The Domain Expert analyzes the domain of the application in order to send the artifacts to the Application Developer. Then the Application Developer analyzes, designs and implements the application based on the artifacts of the Domain Expert and integrates the implemented program modules. Roles are related each other in this way, and cooperate until the application development is completed. Finally, we analyzed and compared these roles with the roles of RUP(Rational Unified process) and web wave. Suggested roles in this paper turned out to be efficient compared to the roles of the existing large-scale methodology.

  • Most frequency domain-based approaches assume that structural response should be a Gaussian random process. But a lot of non-Gaussian processes caused by multi-excitation and non-linearity in structural responses or load itself are observed in many real engineering problems. In this study, the effect of non-Normality on fatigue damages are discussed through case study. The accuracy of four frequency domain methods for non-Gaussian processes are compared in the case study. Power-law and Hermite models which are derived for non-Gaussian narrow-banded process tend to estimate fatigue damages less accurate than time domain results in small kurtosis and in case of large kurtosis they give conservative results. Weibull model seems to give conservative results in all environmental conditions considered. Among the four methods, Benascuitti-Tovo model for non-Gaussian process gives the best results in case study. This study could serve as background material for understanding the effect of non-normality on fatigue damages.
