Due to its lack of wave action and tide ecosystem in Inchon dock lacks in marine characteristics. Structural condition in the dock is artificially similar to that of lake. The purposes of this study was to clarify the water quality, to provide the basic physicochemical data and tl resolve the causation of ?미 blooming. Samples were obtained monthly from four stations in Inchon dock during January to December, 1991. Water temperature ranged from $2.7^{\circ}C$ to $27.6^{\circ}C$ under the strong influence of air temperature. Salinity varied between 24.7%-30.4% thus being influenced by freshwater discharged from a spring. Dissolved oxygen was concentrated from 0.1-13.92 mg/l and suspended solids were 6.9-231.0 mg/l. The physicochemical factors were similar to those investigated 10 years ago. However, increased concentration of nitrogenous nutrients initiated ?미 blooming and its process was accelerated to reach eutrophication. Algal blooming was proceeded in March and August.
This study was carried out to see whether Gastrophysa viridula (Degeer) (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae) could be used as a biological control agent for Rumex obtusifolius L., with human manipulation of the beetle population. The study was consisted of three experimental sets : Wet-Dry experiment (the wet weight Vs dry weight relationship of Rumex obtusifolius L.), Greenhouse feeding experiment, and Field experiment. There was a significant correlation between the total wet and dry weight of Rumex obtusifolius as follows : Total dry weight : -0.23542+ (0.17514${\times}$Total wet weight) ($R^2$=0.9317, p=0.047, T=16.927 (dF=21)). In the Greenhouse feeding experiment, the result was very promising. The relationship between the density unit of the beetles and the growth of the plant is given below (20 day) : Plant growth =105.8+(-34.4${\times}$Density unit) ($R^2$=0.76, p=0.13). A repeated introduction of the beetle population into the field vegetation of R. obtusifolius from April to October is suggested to see the beetle's grazing ability on the plant. This study shows that the potential grazing power of the beetle on Rumex obtusifolius was enough to defoliate the plants, but it was able to recover from its root reserves. The practical question remains as to whether repeated additions (by man) of the beetles to Rumex obtusifolius could eliminate them.

When exposed to 1, 700 ml of 0.089, 0.445 or 0.890 mM/l cadmius solution, dock (rumex crispus L)plants from heavily polluted chungrangchon site absorbed 0.0404, 0.2244 or 0.4929 mM of cadmium per g dw during the first 4 hours, which were 5.0~30.8 times faster uptake rate than those of water hyacinth (eichhornia crassipes Solm. - laub). Zinc, with which cadmium generally occurs together, did not affect the uptake rate in the concentration range of 0.0306 ~0.0918 mM/l. rumex cripus from chungrangchon site and from less polluted shingalchon site, when exposed to 1, 700 ml of 0.089 mM/l solution for 3 days, removed 68.4% and 63.2%, repectively, of the cadmium initially present in the solution. And when exposed to cadmium solution of the same concentration for the second time after cadmium-free hydroponic culture for three days, these plants removed 76.1% and 66.8% of cadmium, respectively. These removal rates were not significantly different between collection sites or between exposures, but were about 2 times greater for the first exposure, and 2~5 times greater for the second exposure, than those of water hyacinth. these results incate that rumex cripus can absorb, and thus remove, large amount of cadmium ion in wastewater, and so can be used in wastewater treatment, e.g. soil trench method. since there was large difference among the plants in the ability to absorb cadmium, it should be possible to select for strain with greater ability.
This study was done to search for positional candidate genes associated with the back fat thickness trait using a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) in purebred Yorkshires (N = 1755). Genotype and phenotype analyses were done for 1,642 samples. As a result of the associations with back fat thickness using the Gemma program (ver. 0.93), when the genome-wide suggestive threshold was determined using the Bonferroni method ($p=1.61{\times}10^{-5}$), the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers with suggestive significance were identified in 1 SNP marker on chromosome 2 (MARC0053928; $p=3.65{\times}10^{-6}$), 2 SNP markers on chromosome 14 (ALGA0083078; $p=7.85{\times}10^{-6}$, INRA0048453; $p=1.27{\times}10^{-5}$), and 1 SNP marker on chromosome 18 (ALGA0120564; $p=1.44{\times}10^{-5}$). We could select positional candidate genes (KCNQ1, DOCK1, LOC106506151, and LOC110257583), located close to the SNP markers. Among these, we identified a potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member gene (KCNQ1) and the dedicator of cytokinesis 1 (DOCK1) gene associated with obesity and Type-2 diabetes. The SNPs and haplotypes of the KCNQ1 and DOCK1 genes can contribute to understanding the genetic structure of back fat thickness. Additionally, it may provide basic data regarding marker assisted selection for a meat quality trait in pigs.
Chlorophyll-a concentrations of phytoplankton and primary productivities in closed marine ecosystem, Inchon Dock, were measured and analyzed monthly from August, 1990 to December, 1991. Chlorophyll-a concentrations ranged from 1.61 to $28.67\;\mu\textrm{g}\;Chi-a/I$, where nanoplankton ($2-20\;\mu\textrm{m}$) fractions contributed in 19.0-82.3% and picoplankton ($0.2-2\;\mu\textrm{m}$) fractions in 4.5-51.4%. Primary productivities measured by $^{14}C$ method ranged from 49.4 to $4359.4\;mg\;C{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-I}$, where nanoplankton ($20\;\mu\textrm{m}$) contributed in 18.8-94.6%. These results implied that very tiny cell-sized phytoplankton populations were important in point of chlorophyll-a concentration and primary productivity of phytoplankton community. In monthly variations of chlorophyll-a concentration by phytoplankton, the first peak occurred in March and the second in August. Nitrogen requirement by phytoplankton ranged from 0.7 to $60.7\;mg\;at-N{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-I}$ and the turnover time of inorganic nitrogen showed maximum during winter and minimum in summer. Carbon assimilation number increased in summer and decreased in winter.winter.
Human carbonic anhydrase (CA) isozyme II has been used as protein target for disorder treatment including glaucoma. Current clinically used sulfonamide-based CA inhibitors can induce side effects, and so alternatives are required. This study aimed to investigate a natural CA inhibitor from Murraya paniculata. The previously developed yeast-based assay was used to screen 14 compounds isolated from M. paniculata and identified by NMR analysis for anti-human CA isozyme II (hCAII) activity. Cytotoxicity of the compounds was also tested using the same yeast-based assay but in a different cultivation condition. Two flavonoid candidate compounds, 5, 6, 7, 8, 3', 4', 5'-heptamethoxyflavone (4) and 3, 5, 7, 8, 3', 4', 5'-heptamethoxyflavone (9), showed potent inhibitory activity against hCAII with a minimal effective concentration of 10.8 and 21.5 μM, respectively, while they both exhibited no cytotoxic effect, even at the highest concentration tested (170 μM). The results from an in vitro esterase assay of the two candidates confirmed their hCAII inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 24.0 and 34.3 μM, respectively. To investigate the potential inhibition mechanism of compound 4, in silico molecular docking was performed using the FlexX and SwissDock software. This revealed that compound 4 coordinated with the Zn2+ ion in the hCAII active site through its methoxy oxygen at a distance of 1.60 Å (FlexX) or 2.29 Å (SwissDock). The interaction energy of compound 4 with hCAII was -13.36 kcal/mol. Thus, compound 4 is a potent novel flavonoid-based hCAII inhibitor and may be useful for further anti-CAII design and development.
Cancer of the stomach is the second most frequent cancer-related death worldwide. The survival rate of patients with gastric cancer (GC) remains fragile. There is a requirement to discover biomarkers for prognosis approaches. Helicobacter pylori in the stomach is closely associated with the progression of GC. We identified the genes associated with poor/favorable prognosis in H. pylori-induced GC. Multivariate statistical analysis was applied on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset GSE54397 to identify differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) in gastric tissues with H. pylori-induced cancer compared with the H. pylori-positive with non-cancerous tissue. A protein interaction map (PIM) was built and subjected to DEMs targets. The enriched pathways and biological processes within the PIM were identified based on substantial clusters. Thereafter, the most critical genes in the PIM were illustrated, and their prognostic impact in GC was investigated. Considering p-value less than 0.01 and |Log2 fold change| as >1, five microRNAs demonstrated significant changes among the two groups. Gene functional analysis revealed that the ubiquitination system, neddylation pathway, and ciliary process are primarily involved in H. pylori-induced GC. Survival analysis illustrated that the overexpression of DOCK4, GNAS, CTGF, TGF-b1, ESR1, SELE, TIMP3, SMARCE1, and TXNIP was associated with poor prognosis, while increased MRPS5 expression was related to a favorable prognosis in GC patients. DOCK4, GNAS, CTGF, TGF-b1, ESR1, SELE, TIMP3, SMARCE1, TXNIP, and MRPS5 may be considered prognostic biomarkers for H. pylori-induced GC. However, experimental validation is necessary in the future.

Objectives: Lawsone (1,4 naphthoquinone) is a non redox cycling compound that can be catalyzed by DT diaphorase (DTD) into 1,2,4-trihydroxynaphthalene (THN), which can generate reactive oxygen species by auto oxidation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the toxicity of the phytomarker 1,4 naphthoquinone and its metabolite THN by using the molecular docking program AutoDock 4. Methods: The 3D structure of ligands such as hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), nitric oxide synthase (NOS), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH), glutathione reductase (GR), glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate hydrogen (NADPH) were drawn using hyperchem drawing tools and minimizing the energy of all pdb files with the help of hyperchem by $MM^+$ followed by a semi-empirical (PM3) method. The docking process was studied with ligand molecules to identify suitable dockings at protein binding sites through annealing and genetic simulation algorithms. The program auto dock tools (ADT) was released as an extension suite to the python molecular viewer used to prepare proteins and ligands. Grids centered on active sites were obtained with spacings of $54{\times}55{\times}56$, and a grid spacing of 0.503 was calculated. Comparisons of Global and Local Search Methods in Drug Docking were adopted to determine parameters; a maximum number of 250,000 energy evaluations, a maximum number of generations of 27,000, and mutation and crossover rates of 0.02 and 0.8 were used. The number of docking runs was set to 10. Results: Lawsone and THN can be considered to efficiently bind with NOS, CAT, GSH, GR, G6PDH and NADPH, which has been confirmed through hydrogen bond affinity with the respective amino acids. Conclusion: Naphthoquinone derivatives of lawsone, which can be metabolized into THN by a catalyst DTD, were examined. Lawsone and THN were found to be identically potent molecules for their affinities for selected proteins.
A four dimensional quantitative structure activity relationship analysis was applied to a series of 50 flavonoid inhibitors of $p56^{lck}$ protein tyrosine kinase by the molecular comparative electron topological method. It was found that the -log (IC50) values of the compounds were highly dependent on the topology, size and electrostatic character of the substituents at seven positions of the flavonoid scaffold in this study. Depending on the negative or positive charge of the groups correctly embedded in these substituents, three-dimensional bio-structure to increase or decrease -log (IC50) values in the training set of 39 compounds was predicted. The test set of 11 compounds was used to evaluate the predictivity of the model. To generate 4D-QSAR model, the defined function groups and pharmacophore used as topological descriptors in the calculation of activity were of sufficient statistical quality ($R^2$ = 0.72 and $Q^2$ = 0.69). Ligand docking approach by using Dock 6.0. These compounds include many flavonoid analogs, They were docked onto human families of p56lck PTKs retrieved from the Protein Data Bank, 1lkl.pdb.
