Space Composition and Layout of the Location of Seon-Un Temple (선운사 입지의 공간구성과 가람 배치)

  • This study analyzes the feng shui characteristics of the location of Seon-un Temple in Do-sol Mountain, Gochang from a metaphysical and selfish perspective through field research and literature review.A characteristic element of feng shui was that it prioritized harmony with nature and made it a reference point for selecting a location through a reasonable method. In the Silla Dynasty, adherent monks studied in the Gangseo area, where the Hyeongsepungsu first appeared, and this Hyeongsepungsu of the Gangseo District Law flowed into Korea and played a leading role in selecting the location of the temple and arranging Garam. Seon-un Temple was located under Do-sol Mountain and had no choice but to have great significance, and it was a practice of the desire to achieve Buddhist perfection through Do-sol Stream and Do-sol Small Temple, which enter the kingdom of Buddha. A s a result, the location of Seon-un Temple under Do-sol Mountain in Gochang reflected a variety of feng shui characteristics. In particular, the location of Sun-un Temple in Do-sol Mountain logically used the characteristics and meanings of feng shui and practiced becoming one with nature, which is aimed at spreading Buddhist doctrine and ideology, which has the holiest meaning of Buddhism.

Distribution Characteristics of the Naturalized Plants in the Stream of Downtown and Urban Forest of Chuncheon City (춘천시 도심하천(태백천)과 도시림에 있어서 귀화식물의 분포특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the distribution status and invasional characteristics of the naturalized plants. The vascular plants in these areas were consisted of total 381 taxa: 81 families, 234 genera, 295 species, 2 subspecies, 66 verieties, 18 forms. Among the investigated vascular plants, naturalized plants (Sicyos angulatus, Barbarea vulgaris, Thlaspi arvense, Amorpha fruticosa, Trifolium pratense, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Ambrosia trifida, Aster pilosus, Rumex acetosella etc.) were 41 taxa. The Naturalization Index (NI) was 10.70% and the Urbanization Index (UI) was 15.30% at Chuncheon city. The Invasion Index was 63.41% at urban river and 97.56% at stream high, 19.51% at urban forest area.

The Origin and Development of Korean Names (우리 성명(姓名)의 생성 발달에 대하여)

  • This paper examines the history of Korean names, focusing on the structural characteristics and the literal meanings of those for kings and ordinary people. Roughly speaking, the Korean surname system traces its source to China. Historical records show that the Chinese were already using their family names around 1000 B.C. After a millennium or so, the Korean began to follow suit. Initially, however, surnames were in regular use among kings and their kin only: it was not until the late Shilla dynasty, around A.D. 800, that the commoners began to have Heir surnames. And yet, surnames still tended to be limited to men of noble birth, until around A.D. 1000. Though the Korean surname system may be said to have its origin in Chinese, there are no lack of native surnames that have as long a history, e.g., Hae, Bak, Sok, Sol, Ul, and Ol. Typical surnames of Chinese origin that are found during the late Shilla dynasty, around A.D. 900, include Jang (as in Jang Bogo) and Choi (as in Choi Chiwon). Unlike those of Chinese origin, typical Korean names during the age of Three Nations tended to allude to nature or natural phenomena, as can be witnessed in Bit 'light,' Balgum 'bright,' Nuri 'world,' and Soidori where soi means 'steel' and dol 'stone,' Other surnames abound that have to do with river, stream, field, prairie, and so on. King Muryong's original name was Sama, a variant of som 'island,' indicating where he was born. A person skilled in archery was called Jumong or Hwalbo. Baembo was so called because he 'crawls like a snake, baem,' In these last two examples, bo, as well as its variant bu, functions as a suffix, and is also found in Cochilbu, Isabu, Babo, Nolbu, Hungbu, etc. The tradition of using this kind of native Korean names has gradually disappeared, giving place to the names of Chinese style-although very recently we see an on-going movement toward using native names.

Fate of Fenitrothion aerially applied to the Pine Forest (항공살포에 따른 Fenitrothion의 산림환경 중 행적)

  • Fate of fenitrothion aerially sprayed to control pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) was studied in a forest of Haman area. And the monitoring of fenitrothion was conducted in a stream flowed from forest area of Gijang sprayed fenitrothion. Fenitrothion 50% EC was diluted 100 times and applied two or three times using helicopter in Haman and Gijang, respectively. Average fenitrothion deposits on forest floor ranged from 6% of standard aerial application rate. Following to the second application, fenitrothion deposits in the pine needle ranged from 0.6 to 0.9 mg/kg and then rapidly decreased to 0.01 mg/kg after 109 days. Deposits on the plant washed off by rainfall and reached to soil surface was 1.3% of the application rate. All of fenitrothion on the ground resided in the forest floor covering the soil surface, where fenitrothion residues were decreased to a tenth at 109 days after the second application, but they were not detected in sol beneath it. And the only low level of fenitrothion residues, 0.0009 mg/L, was detected in runnel of the experimental forest just after aerial application. The concentration of fenitrothion in effluent from Gijang area was less than detection limit (0.0001 mg/L) during the entire period.
