This paper presents identification and control of a surface mounting system. The mount head of the system is modeled to analyze its dynamic characteristics, which is critical to the placement performance of the mounter. Based on this model, an identification work is carried out to estimate the modeled parameters by using genetic algorithm (GA), which plays a role of minimizing an error between the actual response and the model response. Having obtained the identified parameters, we design a disturbance observer control to compensate the friction. The disturbance observer can estimate the friction force and the uncertainty of the system. From the experimental results, it is found that the proposed disturbance observer plus PID controller show a better performance than PID controller alone. In order to accomplish a stable contact content control for fast mounting a ...

An auto weather-vaning system for a Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessel is proposed. When a DP vessel is operating, its position keeping is hindered by ocean environmental disturbances which include the ocean current, wave and wind. Generally, most ocean vessels have a longitudinal length that is larger than the transverse width. The largest load acts on the DP vessel by ocean disturbances, when the disturbances are incoming in the transverse direction. Weather-vaning is the concept of making the heading angle of the DP vessel head toward (or sway from) the disturbance direction. This enables the DP vessel to not only perform marine operations stably and safely, but also to maintain its position with minimum control forces (surge & sway components). To implement auto weather-vaning, a nonlinear controller and a disturbance observer are used. The disturbance observer transforms a real plant to the nominal model without disturbance to enhance the control performance. And the nonlinear controller deals with the kinematic nonlinearity. The auto weather-vaning system is completed by adding a weather-vaning algorithm to disturbance based controller. Numerical simulations of a semi-submersible type vessel were performed for the validation. The results show that the proposed method enables a DP vessel to maintain its position with minimum control force.
To operate in real environment, humanoid robots should be able to react to unknown disturbances. To deal with disturbances, various robust control algorithms have been developed for decades. But for collaborative works such as teleoperation system, a compliance control can be the better solution for disturbance reactions. In this paper, a center of mass (CoM) compliance control algorithm for humanoid robots is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on the state observer and positive feedback of disturbance. With the state observer based on humanoid CoM control performance model, disturbance in each direction can be observed. The positive feedback of disturbances to the reference CoM trajectory enables compliant motion. The main contributions of this algorithm are achieving compliance independently in each axis and maintaining balance against external force. Through dynamic simulations, the performance of the proposed method was demonstrated. Under two types of disturbance conditions, humanoid robot DYROS-JET reacted with compliant motion via the proposed algorithm.
An electro-hydraulic manipulator using hydraulic actuators has many nonlinear elements, and its parameter fluctuations are greater than those of an electrically driven manipulator. So it is quite difficult to obtain stable control performance. We have applied a disturbance estimation and compensation type robust control to all the axes in a 6-link electro-hydraulic manipulator. It was confirmed that the performance of trajectory tracking and attitude regulating was greatly improved by the disturbance observer. For autonomous assembly tasks, it is said that compliance control is one of the most popular methods in contact task. We have proposed a compliance control based on the position control by a disturbance observer for our manipulator system. To realize more stable contact work, the states in the compliance loop are feedbacked, where not only displacement but also the velocity and acceleration are considered. We have also applied this compliance control to the Peg-in-Hole insertion task and proposed new methods of (1)rotating of the end-effector periodically in order to reduce the friction force, (2)random searching for the center of a hole and (3)trajectory modification to reduce the impact force. As a result of these new methods, it could be experimentally confirmed that the Peg-in-Hole insertion task with a clearance of 0.007 [mm] could be achieved.
In spite of the difficulties and uncertain characteristic of cable driven method, surgical robot instrument has adopted it as driving mechanism for various reasons. To overcome the problem of cable system, previous research applied SMCSPO (sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer) algorithm as robust controller to control the instrument and found that the value of SPO (sliding perturbation observer) followed force disturbance, reaction force loaded on the tip very similarly. Thus, this paper confirms that the perturbation observer is sufficient estimator which finds out the mount of loaded force on the surgical robot instrument. To prove the proposition, simulation using the similar model with an actual instrument and experimental evaluation are performed. The results show that it is possible to substitute SPO for sensors to measure the reaction force. This estimated reaction force will be used to realize haptic function by sending the reaction force to a master device for a surgeon. The results will contribute to create surgical benefit such as shortening the practice time of a surgeon and giving haptic information to surgeon by using it as haptic signal to protect an organ by making force boundary.
This paper estimate coefficient of adhesion through speed sensor-less vector control and load torque disturbance observer used for maximum tractive force control. And also proposes anti-slip control algorithm, which controls torque force of motor in order to keep the estimated adhesion force in maximum adhesion by controlling PI torque with the differential value of estimated adhesion force coefficient.
In recent manufacturing process, the increase of productivity has been attempted by reducing machining time with the increase of cutting force. However, the excessive increase of cutting force can cause tool breakage and have a bad effect on both manufacturing machine and workpiece. Thus, it is necessary to estimate and control the cutting force in real time during the process. In this study, use of disturbance observer is proposed for the indirect cutting force estimation. The estimated cutting force is used for the real-time control of feedrate, making the actual cutting force follow the reference force command. Since the suggested method does not need an expensive sensor like a dynamometer, the method is expected to be used practically. Since the actual cutting force follow the reference force, resulting the reducing of the machining time the increase of productivity are also expected, and the quality of cutting surface has been improved due to the adjusted feedrate. Besides, an actual constant cutting force guarantees the prevention of tool breakage. To show the effectiveness of the suggested cutting force control method, an experimental setup has been made without sensor and applied to several workpieces. Experiments show that the suggested method is effective to cutting force control of a CNC machining center.
This study is concerned with static and sinusoidal disturbance rejection for a single periodic input disturbance with known period. In the area of active elimination of a disturbance force, the control input should have two different kinds of gains: one is to deliver a stable control and the other is a force component to cancel the external disturbance force. In this paper we employ a simple state feedback control law to make the balance beam stable and employ a linear observer to estimate the states which represent the external disturbance force components. Simulation results verify our proposed control method to reject a static and sinusoidal disturbance force.
This paper presents a robust and systematic bilateral controller design method for a teleoperation of an underwater manipulator. Disturbance observer is used as a local controller of the master and underwater slave manipulator to set up the teleoperation system as a nominal model by compensating coupled nonlinear terms model uncertainties and external disturbances in the water. Using the linearized master/slave model a $H_{\infty}$ optimal control scheme is applied to systematically construct a force reflecting bilateral controller.
