Integrated urban resilience framework: A comprehensive approach to pre- and post-disaster assessment for earthquake risk reduction

  • In this study, a unified framework that integrates pre- and post-earthquake assessments of buildings was proposed to enhance urban disaster preparedness through the coordination of pre- and post- earthquake efforts. Within this framework, a case study based on the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquake was performed comparing the distribution of seismic risk prioritization for 117 reinforced concrete buildings with their actual damage states observed during post-earthquake field inspections. In order to conduct pre-earthquake evaluation process, street-level images were employed using two different rapid visual screening methods. With the use of generated geospatial database enabling the efficient and reliable transmission of the data between both stages of the assessment procedures, the alignment and validation of pre- and post-earthquake evaluations of the buildings were achieved enhancing the coordination of seismic risk management strategies. By implementing the proposed joint framework in this study, an extensive seismic vulnerability evaluation on an urban scale could be achieved by optimizing the computational demands, cost and time required for the strategic planning activities.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Microplastic Pollution

  • The world is suffering from aggravating, waste-generated consequences, and the contribution of microplastics to this problem is only increasing. A contributing factor to increased microplastic usage is the change in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) from specific use in limited locations (e.g., hospitals) to general use in widespread locations to protect against the current COVID-19 pandemic. This has resulted in an overflow of microfiber waste from homes, schools, streets, and elsewhere, in every country. While various institutes have issued warnings regarding increasing PPE waste, there is no positive indication of an end to the pandemic in the near future. In this review, we examine the impact of the pandemic on microplastic production, consumption, and disposal, and suggest strategies for lessening environmental pollution. In preparation for the worst-case scenario in which PPE becomes a new normal (in the COVID-19 era), it is recommended that governments and other responsible organisations set up a structured monitoring system for the distribution and disposal of PPE to ensure the most effective waste management possible for continuous sustainable development.

Analysis and Prediction of the Relationship between Meteorological Factors and Fine Dust Concentration (기상 요인과 미세먼지 농도 간의 관계 분석 및 예측)

  • Urban air quality significantly impacts life and health, with fine dust (PM10) and ultrafine dust (PM2.5) posing serious health risks. This study investigates the seasonal variations in fine dust concentrations based on meteorological data from 2022 and 2023, including temperature, humidity, and precipitation. A random forest regression model was utilized to analyze the relationship between fine dust levels and meteorological factors. The results revealed that fine dust concentrations were highest during spring and winter, while summer exhibited the lowest levels. This seasonal pattern is attributed to increased precipitation and higher temperatures, which help reduce airborne particulate matter. The findings underscore the predictive potential of meteorological data in estimating fine dust concentrations. This research provides a foundation for improving urban air quality management and developing public health strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of air pollution.

Prognostic Factors on Overall Survival in Lymph Node Negative Gastric Cancer Patients Who Underwent Curative Resection

  • Purpose: To assess independent prognostic factors for lymph node-negative metastatic gastric cancer patients following curative resection is valuable for more effective follow-up strategies. Materials and Methods: Among 1,874 gastric cancer patients who received curative resection, 967 patients were lymph node-negative. Independent prognostic factors for overall survival in lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients grouped by tumor invasion depth (early gastric cancer versus advanced gastric cancer) were explored with univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: There was a significant difference in the distribution of recurrence pattern between lymph node-negative and lymph nodepositive group. In the lymph node-negative group, the recurrence pattern differed by the depth of tumor invasion. In univariate analysis for overall survival of the early gastric cancer group, age, macroscopic appearance, histologic type, venous invasion, lymphatic invasion, and carcinoembryonic antigen level were significant prognostic factors. Multivariate analysis for these factors showed that venous invasion (hazard ratio, 6.695), age (${\geq}59$, hazard ratio, 2.882), and carcinoembryonic antigen level (${\geq}5$ ng/dl, hazard ratio, 3.938) were significant prognostic factors. Multivariate analysis of advanced gastric cancer group showed that depth of tumor invasion (T2 versus T3, hazard ratio, 2.809), and age (hazard ratio, 2.319) were prognostic factors on overall survival. Conclusions: Based on our results, independent prognostic factors such as venous permeation, carcinoembryonic antigen level, and age, depth of tumor invasion on overall survival were different between early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer group in lymph node-negative gastric cancer patients. Therefore, we are confident that our results will contribute to planning follow-up strategies.

  • The systems-level analysis of microbes with myriad of heterologous data generated by omics technologies has been applied to improve our understanding of cellular function and physiology and consequently to enhance production of various bioproducts. At the heart of this revolution resides in silico genome-scale metabolic model, In order to fully exploit the power of genome-scale model, a systematic approach employing user-friendly software is required. Metabolic flux analysis of genome-scale metabolic network is becoming widely employed to quantify the flux distribution and validate model-driven hypotheses. Here we describe the development of an upgraded MetaFluxNet which allows (1) construction of metabolic models connected to metabolic databases, (2) calculation of fluxes by metabolic flux analysis, (3) comparative flux analysis with flux-profile visualization, (4) the use of metabolic flux analysis markup language to enable models to be exchanged efficiently, and (5) the exporting of data from constraints-based flux analysis into various formats. MetaFluxNet also allows cellular physiology to be predicted and strategies for strain improvement to be developed from genome-based information on flux distributions. This integrated software environment promises to enhance our understanding on metabolic network at a whole organism level and to establish novel strategies for improving the properties of organisms for various biotechnological applications.

  • Recently, the interior design of electric home appliance stores requires comprehensive image management with systemic marketing strategies and consistence in order to attract consumers to purchase products. However, the environment of domestic electric home appliance stores is complex and confused by indiscreet design factors and operation. Despite of the fact that company costs a lot of money to manage each store, consumers are not provided with selling environment with high quality. On the other hand, it is inevitable to compete with foreign specialized stores and discount malls due to opening distribution market. Besides, company has faced to attract customers with distinct strategies in order to survive in various competition system. In this sense, in store environment, there should be consistent image in interior design of the store based on management ideology of the company for the successful management of electric home appliance stores. The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze the case of Samsung Electronics's electric home appliance stores among domestic electric home appliance stores that is applied with Store Identity Program (hereafter SIP) and to suggest solutions for the problems. Therefore, it is purposed to use as references for the stores that has the similar interior design plan. The result of this study is to upgrade the store image through providing basic data about role of data and distinct factors for competitive design as a part of Store Identity Strategy. Furthermore, it can be important data to optimize the profits and to make positive space for both consumer and company as company and products are credible with mental satisfaction of consumers if there is enough study on SIP and process and symbol of company and products to consumers, enough recognition and improvement on problems.

A Study on the Agency Theory and Accounting (에이전시이론과 회계감사에 관한 연구)

  • The primary objective of the agency research in the game theory lives in the maintenance of Pareto is optimal condition for the optimal incentive contract. The basic concepts which are related to this objective are reviewed in connection with the general assumptions to model it, the moral hazard and adverse selection which arised from the information asymmetry, and finally the problem of risk distribution. The demand for auditing and the role of auditor have been addressed by ASOBAC. Issues which an auditor is explicitly introduced in a principal-agent framework have been addressed in this paper. These issues must be confronted to appropriately with the auditor, and to achieve an adequate understanding of optimal confronting arrangement with the auditor. The first step in introducing an auditor into this analysis is to examine the game-theoretic foundation of such a expended agency model. The Mathematical program formulated may not yield solution that are resonable. This arises because the program may call for the auditor and manager to play dominated Nash equilibra in some subgame. The nontrivial natures of the subgame implies that randomized strategies by the auditor and manager nay be of crucial importance. The possibilities for overcoming the randomized strategy problem were suggested; change the rule of the game and or impose covexity condition. The former seems unjustifiable in on auditing context, and the latter promising but difficult to achieve. The discussion ended with an extension of the revelation principle to the owner manager-auditor game, assuming strategies. An examination of the restriction and improvement direction of the basic concept of agency theory was addressed in the later part of this paper. Many important aspects of auditor incentives are inherently multiple-agent, multiple-period, multiple-objectine, phenomena and require further analyses and researches.

  • Contemporary fashion companies have been planning marketing strategies that can promote brands and products more effectively for satisfying consumers' increasingly diversified needs. For this reason, retail spaces have continued to evolve and the modern concept of pop-up stores appeared through this process. Therefore, the object of this study was to research domestic pop-up fashion store cases by collecting article data. These data are from Internet fashion-specialty sites and analyze the types and characteristics of pop-up fashion stores by providing basic information that will be useful in the pop-up fashion stores of companies when they establish their marketing strategies. This study utilized the content analysis method and derived the results by using SPSS Statistics. As a result of this study, the type of "pop-up fashion stores opening in distribution enterprises" comprised the highest percentage of the whole store types and the pop-up fashion stores' management purposes were focused on product introduction, promotion, and market testing. As time passed, not only did pop-up fashion stores' growth rate increased, but also the types of pop-up fashion stores have become more diverse. In other words, contemporary fashion companies are utilizing more pop-up fashion stores as a marketing strategy than before. However, due to the short history of domestic pop-up fashion stores, the variety of research is still insufficient, so more extensive research on pop-up fashion stores is required.

Comparing Expected Numbers of Re-Handles for Empty Containers During Gate-Out Operation (공 컨테이너 반출 시 발생하는 재취급 횟수 비교)

  • If empty containers from multiple shipping liners are mixed together in the same bay, then the space utilization increases; however, the expected number of re-handles also increases. Formulas for estimating the expected number of re-handles are derived for various storage strategies and two types of handling equipment. The expected number of re-handles is compared, through numerical experiments, among those cases. The results of the numerical experiments are used to analyze the change in the number of expected re-handles according to the change in the retrieval ratio and repair ratio. The impacts of the change in the bay size and the distribution of the storage and retrieval ratio of containers among multiple vessel liners on the expected number of re-handles are analyzed. It is necessary to study efficient operational strategies considering the expected number of re-handles for empty containers.

The Effect of Birds in the Families Ardeidae and Corvidae on Stand Structure in Bamboo Groves

  • We investigated death rates, growth rates and recruitment of culms in two neighboring bamboo (Phyllostachys bamboosoides) stands nested in by two different bird species to analyze stand structure and to design conservation strategies. A third bamboo grove not used by birds, the Taewha stand, was included as a control stand. The bamboo stand occupied by birds in the family Ardeidae (the Ardeidae stand) had an approximately 1.5 times higher culm density than the stand occupied by birds in the family Corvidae (the Corvidae stand). The crude death rate and the number of newly emerged shoots were also higher in the Ardeidae stand than the Corvidae stand. The death rate for bamboo in the Ardeidae stand was not dependent on diameter at breast height (DBH) and was almost 40% for culms of all sizes, whereas most dead culms in the Corvidae stand were < 4 cm DBH. Consequently, we conclude that in the Ardeidae stand, density-independent causes of death are operating, while density-dependent factor are more important in the Corvidae site. The results of soil analysis in these stands suggest that the density-independent death pattern observed in the Ardeidae stand may be due to soil acidification resulting from wastes produced by the birds during breeding. On the other hand, the culm distribution and death patterns in the Corvidae stand suggest that the stand characteristics were not affected by the nesting birds. These results suggest that different conservation strategies must be applied to conserve bamboo groves used by ardeids and corvids for nesting.
