Consideration of Domestic Category Killers for Distribution Environment

  • The category killer that has been rapidly growing mainly in advanced countries since early 1990's, is a mew distribution model which aims for obtaining market controlling power by surpassing competing businesses in a specific area of products. The domestic situation of category killers is very different from that of advanced ones abroad since it has just been introduced into the Korean market. At the moment, there are only 10 or so companies operating in the market : Geopyung's , Taeheng's , Midopa's , of Sinsegye Department store, adn of Yerim International. The purpose of this study is to examine problems of domestic companies in the present market by analysing the operation status of category killers in domestic markets as well as foreign ones, and to suggest a counter-strategy of category killers for the distribution environment of the 21st century to improve the competitiveness of Korean distribution industry. The competitiveness of category killers lies above all in products lines. Category killers are equipped with the greatest number of products lines among those of competing businesses due to maximized product selections in an limited range. Another source of competitiveness may be found in balanced strategy positioning. That is to say, category killers are in a position where they can adjust policies towards any of the three purposes while aiming at them altogether : prices of discount stores, products range of specialty stores, and customer service level of department stores. It is also necessary for efficient store operation to use information technology such as electronic data interchange (EDI), electronic pose system(EPOS) and electronic funds transfer (EFTPOS). As for the cost structure, category killers can gain an advantage over other business since operating cost of various sections can be saved. There are, however, certain risks that category killers with strong competitiveness may influence on other businesses a great deal and even facilitate their decline. Yet it seems that the growth of category killers will be more viciously restrained by continuous challenges from other businesses. The distribution industry is supposed to develop through such competition and restraint.

투습조건에 따른 목재내 함수율분포 (Distribution of Moisture Content in Wood with Vapor Transmission Conditions)

  • 투습조건이 다른 경우에 있어서, 목재의 두께를 동일하게 하여 목재내부의 함수율분포 및 함수율의존성을 조사하였다. 시험편은 소나무재로 직경 70mm, 두께 20mm 인 정목판재를 이용하였다. 실험은 JIS Z-0208규정에 의거하여 10가지 종류를 선정하여 실시하였다. 목재내 함수율분포는 함수율 10%위치를 경계로 두 개의 직선으로 나타났다. 한편, 10%보다 높거나 낮을때는 한 개의 직선으로 나타났다. 따라서 함수율 10%값은 목재나 실험조건과는 상관없이 나타나는 것으로 생각되었다. 10%는 수분흡착에너지가 변화하는 경계점으로 추정되었다. 전보에서 일정한 실험조건에서는 목재의 두께에 상관없이 일정한 값을 나타내었지만, 본 연구에서 확산계수는 실험조건에 따라 수분경사로 구한 확산계수는 목재함수율에 따라 다양하게 나타났다.

복잡성 분석을 통한 디지털 분석의 유효성에 관한 연구 (Study of Digital Analysis Efficiency through a Complexity Analysis)

  • This study intends to prepare a system that can be used, by applying digital technique, in analyzing complexity of architectural forms that have been visualized by the correlation based on the distribution chart made in accordance with profile lines. The profile lines are derived from the edge analysis of the architectural forms, simplified based on the visual theory. For the purpose, this study was conducted in the following ways: First, problems of the existing models for the elevation analysis were examined along with formal analysis based on visual recognition to consider the profile lines derived from the forms. Secondly, in elevation analysis, profile lines were derived by digital method to measure them qualitatively. To verify the objectivity of the measured data value, a survey was conducted based on the adjective cataloging method, and the correlation of the survey result and analyzed data was analyzed to verify the validity of the derived data. Thirdly, supplementation for the problems deducted from experiments and the possibility to use it in designing were suggested. Digital method has many advantages over the conventional analyzing system in deriving precise data value by excluding subjectivity. It also allows various analytical methods in analyzing numerous data repeatedly. Diversified models and methods of analysis considering numerous factors arising in the process of designing remain assignments to research in future.

Aqueous Extract of Anticancer Drug CRUEL Herbomineral Formulation Capsules Exerts Anti-proliferative Effects in Renal Cell Carcinoma Cell Lines

  • Purpose: Anti-cancer activity evaluation of aqueous extract of CRUEL (herbomineral formulation) capsules on renal cell carcinoma cell lines, and exploration of mechanisms of cell death. Materials and Methods: To detect the cytotoxic dose concentration in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) cells, MTT assays were performed and morphological changes after treatment were observed by inverted microscopy. Drug effects against RCC cell lines were assessed with reference to cell cycle distribution (flow cytometry), anti-metastatic potential (wound healing assay) and autophagy(RT-PCR). Results: CRUEL showed anti-proliferative effects against RCC tumor cell lines with an IC50 value of ${\approx}4mg/mL$ in vitro., while inducing cell cycle arrest at S-phase of cell cycle and inhibiting wound healing. LC3 was found to be up-regulated after drug treatment in RT-PCR resulting in an autophagy mode of cell death. Conclusions: This study provides the experimental validation for antitumor activity of CRUEL.

An MHD Simulation of the X2.2 Solar Flare on 2011 February 15

  • We perform an MHD simulation combined with observed vector field data to clarify an eruptive dynamics in the solar flare. We first extrapolate a 3D coronal magnetic field under a Nonlinear Force-Free Field (NLFFF) approximation based on the vector field, and then we perform an MHD simulation where the NLFFF prior to the flare is set as an initial condition. Vector field was obtained by the Soar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) at 00:00 UT on February 15, which is about 90 minutes before the X2.2-class flare. As a result, the MHD simulation successfully shows an eruption of strongly twisted lines whose values are over one-turn twist, which are produced through the tether-cut magnetic reconnection in strongly twisted lines of the NLFFF. Eventually, we found that they exceed a critical height at which the flux tube becomes unstable to the torus instability determining the condition that whether a flux tube might escape from the overlying field lines or not. In addition to these, we found that the distribution of the observed two-ribbon flares is similar to the spatial variance of the footpoints caused by the reconnection of the twisted lines being resided above the polarity inversion line. Furthermore, because the post flare loops obtained from MHD simulation well capture that in EUV image taken by SDO, these results support the reliability of our simulation.

Various Factors Influencing the Lifetime of Suspension-Type Porcelain Insulators for 154 kV Power Transmission Lines

  • In this article, we investigated the various influencing factors that degraded the lifetime of suspension insulators in 154 kV transmission lines, and showed the possible solutions to avoid such breakdowns. With respect to achieve safety, reliability and aesthetical considerations, the characteristics of transmission and distribution network power cables should be improved. Suspension insulators are particularly important to study, as they have developed to be the main component of transmission lines due to their ability to withstand the electrical conductivity of high-voltage power transmission. Suspension insulators are mostly made from glass, rubber and ceramic material due to their high resistivity. In Korea, porcelain suspension insulators are typically used in the transmission line system, as they are cheaper and more flexible compared to other types of insulators. This is effective from preventing very high and steep lightening impulse voltages from causing the breakdown of suspension insulators used in power lines. Other influential factors affect the lifetime of suspension insulators that we studied include temperature, water moisture, contamination, mechanical vibration and electrical stress.

Outbound Service Quality at Wan Hai Lines

  • Service quality is still a new concept to those who works in shipping lines services since it has not been identified as a mandatory factor to increase competitiveness. Most carriers are currently offering services at the same level of price, transit time, equipment, etc. Thus offering a high quality service is the best way for a carrier to differentiate itself from its competitors in the market. The research aims to conduct an assessment on service quality at Wan Hai Lines (WHL) outbound services based on the SERVQUAL model, form of dimension-by-dimension analysis. This study was based on a survey of 135 people. The outcome is the service quality of WHL outbound services can be identified by three dimension(s): Empathy and Responsiveness, Assurance, and Reliability. It would help management to have an overall picture about the current service quality, and to find solutions to improve service quality following the recommendations. WHL managers need to recognize that "Reliability" has the strongest influence on customers' expectations, then come "Empathy and Responsiveness" and "Assurance". Therefore, board of managers should spend time looking carefully at each of the three dimensions, especially for the biggest gap between perceptions and expectations of three dimensions as well. Then the recommendations were raised.

Dynamic Thermal Rating of Transmission Line Based on Environmental Parameter Estimation

  • The transmission capacity of transmission lines is affected by environmental parameters such as ambient temperature, wind speed, wind direction and so on. The environmental parameters can be measured by the installed measuring devices. However, it is impossible to install the environmental measuring devices throughout the line, especially considering economic cost of power grid. Taking into account the limited number of measuring devices and the distribution characteristics of environment parameters and transmission lines, this paper first studies the environmental parameter estimating method of inverse distance weighted interpolation and ordinary Kriging interpolation. Dynamic thermal rating of transmission lines based on IEEE standard and CIGRE standard thermal equivalent equation is researched and the key parameters that affect the load capacity of overhead lines is identified. Finally, the distributed thermal rating of transmission line is realized by using the data obtained from China meteorological data network. The cost of the environmental measurement device is reduced, and the accuracy of dynamic rating is improved.

양산 단층곡 경주 지역의 단층 지형 분석 (Analysis on Fault-Related Landformsin the Gyeongju Area of the Yangsan Fault Valley)

  • This study tries to infer fault lines and produce a map for the lines based on a classification of fault-related landforms and fluvial landformsin the Gyeongju area of the Yangsan Fault Valley. Fault activities in the study area are thought to be older than the time of river formation or stronger than the erosion by river, while the northern and southern parts of the study area seem to have experienced fault activities after valley formation. It is also possible that weaker fault activities than the erosion by river seem to have been prevailed in the parts. In the study area, the Gyeongju alluvial fan is located within a wide erosional valley at the joint area of the Yangsan and Ulsan Faults. From the distribution of the landforms, it is inferred that several fault lines parallel to the Yangsan Fault are distributed at both sides of the fault valley. In particular, the area from Bae-dong to Nogok-ri, Naenam-myeon shows the most obvious linearity of the landforms within the study area. Several fault lines with a direction of NNE-SSW are also found around the epicenter of the 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake.

손실배분계수를 이용한 송전선로 유효전력 손실의 배분법 (A Method to Allocate Real Power Losses of Transmission Lines using Loss Distribution factors)

  • The paper proposes a simple method to calculate the portion of real power losses allocated to individual loads. The method is implemented by loss distribution factors, and analyses the share of loads in transmission line losses. Effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by a computer simulation. The results can be used to compute the cost of ancillary services under deregulated environment in electric power industries.
