  • Purpose - This study aims to derive directions and implications for improving performance in operating agrifood export organizations by identifying significant performance impact factors. Research design, data, and methodology - A seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) model was estimated using data from a survey conducted among 120 exporters including 16 leading export organizations. In the SUR estimation, the export volume and price are used as dependent variables and securing the quantity of products ordered and exported, quality management, and marketing activities are considered as explanatory variables for the operation performance. Results - The amount of farmer education, the manpower in charge of marketing, and the interaction terms between whether or not they belong to a leading export organization and the item dummy for mushrooms have a significant impact on the export volume where the export volume is specified as a dependent variable. The export volume is greater with a greater amount of farmer education and greater manpower in charge of marketing from the perspective of quality management. When the export price is estimated as a dependent variable, the manpower in charge of marketing is shown to have a significant impact on the export price. Conclusions - The government needs to strengthen its support of the performance of agrifood export organizations. The analysis indicates that the education of and consulting with farmers, and the manpower number in charge of marketing are key factors in the operation performance of export organizations. Therefore, supporting the export organizations in expanding their human resources in charge of marketing can increase the export volumes for agrifoods. Given, however, that the export volume associated with joint payments, human resources specialized in quality management, and the amount of participation in export exhibitions are not significant factors, it is essential to improve the supporting policies for those areas. The manpower in charge of marketing from the perspective of marketing has a significant impact on both the export volume and export price. Thus, we identify this as the most important category that should be supported to enhance performance in export organizations.

  • Educators have found that the concept of randomness is often misunderstood by students. Chance recently pointed out that students should be introduced to the concept of randomness through the use of simulations. In this article, we studied various aspects of the probability distribution off linear random path in a circle and introduce some related simulations to guide student exploration and discovery. Consider a random line segment that crosses a circle with a certain radius. Perhaps it can be considered to be a path that an airplane shows up and flies into a random direction in a monitor. What is the expected amount of flying distance through the monitor, and the expected variation\ulcorner Are we monitoring what we see scientifically\ulcorner This article studies the probability distribution and some related aspects of a linear random path within a circular monitor. Some simulative activity is also introduced which can be used in a statistics or probability classes.

  • The number of small businesses being founded nationally is constantly increasing and various kinds of aggressive efforts are being made to remain competitive. As such, political support by the government for small businesses that have great productivity and competitiveness must increase. The founding of small businesses is being promoted by the government in order to boost the economy, and interest in founding new businesses is high amongst not only college students, but even general workers. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine problems regarding the founding of small businesses, and to give new businesses a competitive edge by presenting political answers to these problems. After analyzing the status of current issues concerning the foundation of small businesses, this paper suggests some positive policy alternatives. Existing studies on small businesses were focused on the promotion of small and medium distributors, and studies on policy alternatives aimed directly at promoting the businesses are, so far, insufficient. Further studies are required to examine political alternatives from the perspective of the roles of non-profit organizations, which the Government is responsible for, in supporting small business.

  • Blue Straggler Stars(BSS) affect their host star cluster in various parameters like color, dynamics, etc. For this reason, it is important to know how to relate BSS frequency and evolution of their host stellar system. To statistical study about global properties of open clusters as the environments of BSS formation, we use three catalogues - (1) two galactic open clusters catalogues including BSS candidate, (2) Milky Way Star Cluster (MWSC) survey data. Then, we compare with the data of two BSS catalogues for test of the result of Marchi et al. 2006. We also investigate the radial mass distribution in open cluster, because it is possible that changing the gradient of radial mass distribution cause increasing the BSS frequency. When we group the open cluster into having BSS or not and other criteria, the groups show slight discrepancies, but we show some important results.

  • Purpose - This paper aims to review cold chain management, especially in the pharmaceutical industry, to explore the cold chain process of delivering temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products, and to identify areas for further development. Research design, data, and methodology - The paper, based on literature review and corporate analysis, reviews the development and status of the cold supply chain system, including its important role in the pharmaceutical industry. Results - Logistics in this field requires more stages than are typically needed. Due to the unique characteristics of the market, few companies can provide the services; currently, only few global companies with large networks and high technologies can afford to do so. Expanding pharmaceutical markets to meet global demand will require cold chain development, especially in "pharmerging" markets. Conclusions - Cold chain is a highly sensitive market in terms of products being carried within the chain that itself is a complex system. However, at the same time, it is a niche market with new opportunities. Hence, a sound cold chain infrastructure is needed to satisfy companies, governments, and customers for both commercial and public reasons.

  • Purpose - This research examines the effects of local universities on urban regeneration to recover commercial supremacy in the original urban area and provides clear information on the "University Cooperation Project for Traditional Market." Research design, data, and methodology - The "University Cooperation Project for Traditional Market" started in 2015. This study was conducted focusing on 22 places selected in 2015 and the project content in those locations. Results - This study analyzes the link to urban regeneration and spreads the concept along with theoretical consideration of university cooperation for traditional markets. Additionally, it promotes policies to help propel the project based on characteristics of the region. Conclusions - A differentiated project should be created, with characteristics of the region reflected, and detailed programs developed and implemented resulting in meaningful achievement from the perspective of members of the local community, who may have deviated from existing perspectives. Additionally, opportunities should be established for the direct application of young consumer ideas through experimental business to regenerate the traditional market (commercial supremacy), the center of the local economic society.

  • Recently, there are two big paradigm shifts in the global electric power industry. First, the maintenance practice is gradually moved from time-based activities to reliability-centered activities. On the other hand, asset management is emerging as a new framework to maximize the efficiency of investments. The two paradigms are mutually exclusive in natural. Thus the power utilities usually chose the investment alternative on the basis of reliability in the past. But today's changed business environment - competition -requires the power utilities to compromise the trade-off of reliability effects and economics of investments. This paper shows what and how to interpret the reliability effects of distribution system investments into financial indicators beneficial for power utilities's managers to make decision on the perspective of corporate value.

  • A big database utilizes the establishing network technology, and it became an emerging trend in the computing field. Therefore, there is a necessity for an optimal and effective data distribution approach to deal with this trend. This research presents the practical perspective of designing and implementing distributed database features. The proposed system has been establishing the satisfying, reliable, scalable, and standardized use of information. Furthermore, the proposed scheme reduces the vast and recurring efforts for designing an individual system for each university, as well as it is effectively participating in solving the course equivalence problem. The empirical finding in this study shows the superiority of the distributed system performance based on the average response time and the average waiting time than the centralized system. The system throughput also overcomes the centralized system because of data distribution and replication. Therefore, the analyzed data shows that the centralized system thrashes when the workload exceeds 60%, while the distributed system becomes thrashes after 81% workload.

  • It has been well recognized that extreme rainfall process often features a nonstationary behavior, which may not be effectively modeled within a stationary frequency modeling framework. Moreover, extreme rainfall events are often described by a two (or more)-component mixture distribution which can be attributed to the distinct rainfall patterns associated with summer monsoons and tropical cyclones. In this perspective, this study explores a Mixture Distribution based Nonstationary Frequency (MDNF) model in a changing rainfall patterns within a Bayesian framework. Subsequently, the MDNF model can effectively account for the time-varying moments (e.g. location parameter) of the Gumbel distribution in a two (or more)-component mixture distribution. The performance of the MDNF model was evaluated by various statistical measures, compared with frequency model based on both stationary and nonstationary mixture distributions. A comparison of the results highlighted that the MDNF model substantially improved the overall performance, confirming the assumption that the extreme rainfall patterns might have a distinct nonstationarity.
