  • This study collected 328 self-reporting questionnaires from the married middle-aged women residing in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Daejeon province to explore the mediating effects between distress tolerance and rumination in the relations of life stress and depression. SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 20.0 were used to analyze descriptive statistics, correlation, and structural equation. Following is the summarizaton of the study. First, the life stress showed a significant positive correlation with rumination and depression, and meaningful negative correlation wiith distress tolerance. Also, it showed negative correlation with distress tolerance and rumination. Second, each distress tolerance and rumination showed meaningful mediating effects in the relations of life stress and depression. Third, dual mediating effect of distress tolerance and rumination is showed meaningful in the relations of life stress and depression. Based on the results above, we verified that three variables, life stress, distress tolerance and rumination, affect depression significantly in married middle-aged women and discussed the significance of this result, limitations and suggestions for future studies.

  • The aim of this research was to verify the mediating effects of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and distress tolerance on the relationship between harm avoidance and depression. A total of 403 university students completed TCI-RS(Temperament and Character Inventory-Revised Short version), AEQ-K(Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire-Korean), DTS (Distress Tolerance Scale) and CES-D(The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale). The results revealed that harm avoidance and ambivalence over emotional expressiveness were positively related with depression, and negatively related with distress tolerance. In addition, the relationship of harm avoidance and depression was successively mediated by ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and distress tolerance. That is, the motivation of emotional expression conflict may have an effect on depression and the distress tolerance would play an important role in therapeutic intervention of depression.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of distress tolerance on subjective well-being and the mediating effect of experiential avoidance in the relationship between distress tolerance and subjective well-being. We conducted an online survey a total of 285 normal adults in the nation from October 21 to 24, 2015. The questionnaire was composed of a distress intolerance index, a concise measure of subjective well-being, and acceptance action questionnaire. And questionnaires were distributed and retrived by an online survey company. Collected data has been analyzed by the structural equation modeling. The correlation analysis showed that distress tolerance was positively correlated with subjective well-being, while negatively with experiential avoidance. Also, the verification of mediating effects of experiential avoidance in the relation between distress tolerance and subjective well-being indicated that experiential avoidance partly mediated the relationship at a meaningful level. Additionally, deflection correction bootstrap analysis was used to verify indirect effects and its results revealed that the mediating effect going from distress tolerance to subjective well-being passing through experiential avoidance was statistically significant. That is, distress tolerance not only influences subjective well-being directly but also influences indirectly through experiential avoidance. Finally, significance and limitations of this study were discussed along with the suggestions for further research.

  • As the interest in the positive quality of life is increasing throughout the world, the number of people who are suffering from negative sentiments, such as depression, anxiety, or stress, is increasing, as well. Especially, the adolescence period is the period of transition from childhood to adulthood and accompanies significant changes in terms of the body and mind alike. The purpose of this study is to examine the negative sentiment of the juveniles, caused by the stress they experience in their social and personal domains and the distress tolerance that can protect the inner feelings of them at the same time, to understand how they are related to the subjective well-being of the juveniles. For this study, the researcher employed the data from 362 high school students from the high schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, which were analyzed using the statistics suites SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. According to the findings of this study, first, the depression and anxiety of the adolescent population showed a significant relationship for each variable with regard to the distress tolerance and the subjective well-being. Especially, the negative correlation with the subjective well-being was highly significant. Second, the depression and anxiety of the juveniles turned out to influence the distress tolerance and subjective well-being of them in a negative manner. In both distress tolerance and subjective well-being, the influence of anxiety was higher than that of depression. Third, in the relationship between depression, anxiety, and subjective well-being, the distress tolerance turned out to have a mediating effect. Such results of this study provided the basic data for suggesting the strategies to promote the perceived psychological well-being and help the juveniles who are under stress.

The basic assumption is that the preceding factors that can be determined by the personal investment propensity, a psychological factor asserted by Behavior Financial Theory and financial-economic and social environment. This study uses Hershey's Investment Behavior Model(2007) as the main analysis tool to explain the investment behavior of individuals and deals with personal investment inclination in the psychological perspective of overconfidence, self-control and the risk tolerance propensity and add the financial and economic factors in terms of financial literacy and economic distress. Also the new preceding social environmental factors like social interaction and the effect of reference group are added to make this research to be more precise. This study analyze the adjustment effect of professional invest-consulting service that affect the fluctuation influence between the individual variables(those factors) and subordination variable(the level of investment satisfaction). The study reveals that overconfidence and self-control in direct ways have a positive effect on the level of investment satisfaction in terms of investment behavior and economic distress has a negative effect on the level of investment satisfaction. The adjustment effect provided by financial experts in investment consulting service is affirmed as the critical factor that increase the influence between self-control and the level of investment satisfaction. To conclude, the research reveals that the psychological factors are the main criteria when the workers as employees have to make investment decisions. To make investors be reasonable, a systematic financial education system provided by experts is needed from the early adolescent stages and financial companies should develop the relevant services of consulting service department as a key financial sector and financial investment products and consulting program and marketing tool pertinent to investors ages, vocational traits and their inclinations.

  • We have treated patients who have visited pain clinic and those admitted to the other departments of Pusan National University Hospital from Mar. 1987 to Feb. 1988 with complaints of severe cancer pain on both upper and lower abdomen and extremities by continuous administration of a very small amount of morphine in the lumbar subarachnoid(group I) and epidural(group II) space in 10 cases respectively. The results of analgesia obtained are as follows: 1. The average duration in onset of analgesia was 8 mins. in group I and 23 mins. in group II. 2. The average duration In maintaining analgesia was 12.4 hrs. in group I and 18.4 hrs. in group II. 3. The efficiency of analgesia in group I was excellent in 5, good in 4, and null in 1, and group II was excellent in 5, good in 2, and moderate in 3. 4. The degree of tolerance in group I was rather mild comparable ti that of pain score 4 till the 22nd. day of morphine administration. 5. The complications are: 2 of respiratory distress in group I, 2 of voiding difficulties in both group I and II, 1 of itching sensation in both group I and II, 1 of euphoria with hallucination In group I, and 1 of C.S.F leakage in group II. As results, it is thought that epidural administration is safer than subarachnoid administration in achieving analgesia with morphine among patients with malignant pain if the problem of tolerance is solved.

  • Purpose : A prospective, controlled trial was conducted to evaluate growth, efficacy, safety and nutritional status for very low birth weight infants fed with human milk fortified with Maeil human milk fortifier (Maeil $HMF^{(R)}$; Maeil Dairies Co., Ltd.). Methods : We enrolled 45 premature infants with a birth weight <1,500 g and gestational age <33 weeks, who were born at Dong-A University Hospital from October, 2006 through December, 2007. They were divided into 2 groups: infants in one group were fed with human milk fortified with $HMF^{(R)}$, and the second were fed with preterm formula. Growth, biochemical indices, feeding tolerance, and other adverse events in each group were assessed serially and compared relatively. Follow-up data were also collected after discharge at 1, 3, and 6 months corrected age. Results : Characteristics of the 2 groups including average gestational age, birth weight, sex, respiratory distress syndrome, patent ductus arteriosus, and other adverse events (sepsis, retinopathy of prematurity, and intraventricular hemorrhage) showed no significant difference. Average feeding start day ($8.00{\pm}3.27d$ vs. $8.86{\pm}5.37d$) (P=0.99) and the number of days required to reach full feeding after start feeding ($41.78{\pm}20.47d$ vs $36.86{\pm}20.63d$) (P=0.55) were not significantly different in the group fed human milk fortified with $HMF^{(R)}$ when compared with the group that was fed preterm formula. The duration of total parenteral nutrition and the incidence of feeding intolerance also showed no differences between the 2 groups. Although infants fed with human milk fortified with $HMF^{(R)}$ showed faster weight gain than those fed with preterm formula at the end stage of the admission period, other growth indices of the two groups showed no significant difference. No significant correlations were found between the 2 groups with regard to weight gain velocity, height gain velocity, head circumference velocity, and post-discharge follow up growth indices. Conclusion : Premature infants fed human milk fortified with $HMF^{(R)}$ showed no significant difference compared with those fed preterm formula in growth, biochemical indices, and adverse events. Using human milk fortifier can be an alternative choice for very low birth weight infants, who need high levels nutritional support even after discharge from NICU.
