Designing on improved combined mapping based on soft-decision for wideband LSP coefficients pattern estimation (광대역 LSP 계수의 패턴 추론을 위한 연판정 기반 개선된 조합 매핑 설계)

  • 본 논문은 인공 대역 확장에서 스펙트럼 포락선 확장 시 발생하는 스펙트럼 왜곡을 줄이는 개선된 조합 매핑(Improved combined mapping) 알고리즘을 제안한다. 벡터양자화를 기반으로 하는 코드북 매핑(Codebook mapping)과 스펙트럼 포락선(Spectrum Envelope)의 선형 의존도를 이용한 선형 매핑(Linear mapping)을 사용하여 각각 확장된 광대역 LSP(Line Spectrum Pair)를 추론하고, 연판정(Soft-decision)을 통해 최적화된 LSP를 추론한다. 제안된 알고리즘으로 합성된 음성신호의 스펙트럼 왜곡(Spectrum Distortion)이 기존 조합매핑으로 얻은 음성 신호의 스펙트럼 왜곡보다 더 적은 왜곡을 갖는 결과를 나타내었다.

  • Front-projection type displays make it difficult to apply traditional skin color detection for human hand because the projected beam not only reaches to the screen but also to the user's hand. This paper solves this problem by modeling the distortion between original image and its final camera input. Our approach improves hand detection rate by modeling of interference effect among color channels and of intra-frame intensity and also by introducing adaptive threshold for color difference in skin region.

Video Haze Removal Method in HLS Color Space (HLS 색상 공간에서 동영상의 안개제거 기법)

  • This paper proposes a new haze removal method for moving image sequence. Since the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method adjusts each color component separately in RGB color space, there can be severe color distortion in the haze removed output image. In order to resolve this problem, this paper proposes a new haze removal scheme that adjusts luminance and saturation components in HLS color space while retaining hue component. Also the conventional dark channel prior haze removal method is developed to obtain best haze removal performance for a single image. Therefore, if it is applied to a moving image sequence, the estimated parameter values change rapidly and the haze removed output image sequence shows unnatural glitter defects. To overcome this problem, a new parameter estimation method using Kalman filter is proposed for moving image sequence. Experimental results demonstrate that the haze removal performance of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional dark channel prior method.

  • 본 논문에서는 움직임 추정을 위한 탐색 영역내의 스캔 방법을 움직임 벡터가 나올 확률에 근거하여 가변적으로 적용하여 불필요한 후보 블록을 건너뛰고 탐색 영역 안에서의 블록 정합을 PDE(partial distortion elimination) 기반으로 하여 고속 블록 매칭이 가능한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 기존의 방법보다 불필요한 계수를 효율적으로 제거하기 위하여 탐색 영역 안에서 움직임 벡터가 존재 할 확률이 가장 높은 영역은 모두 검색하고, 움직임 벡터가 존재할 확률이 낮은 영역은 가로 세로 각각 한 픽셀 건너뛰어서 블록 정합하고 만약 현재의 최소 비용보다 낮은 비용을 가지는 위치가 존재한다면 가로 세로 이웃한 4개의 화소를 추가적으로 정합하여 계산 비용을 효율적으로 감소시키면서 정확도를 높이도록 하였다. 제안한 알고리즘은 극히 낮은 화질 저하를 가지며, 기존의 전역 탐색 알고리즘에 비해 약 85% 이상의 계산 비용 감소가 있어 비디오 압축 응용 분야에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

Performance of Time-averaging Channel Estimator for OFDM System of Terrestrial Broadcasting Channel (지상파 방송 채널에서 OFDM 시스템의 시간 평균 채널 추정기의 성능)

  • In this paper, we propose a pilot based time-averaging channel estimation method and analyze error performances for efficient transmission of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in multipath fading environment. Frequency domain channel estimations have been used in OFDM systems to compensate signal distortions due to fading on each subcarrier. The frequency domain estimation scheme uses scattered pilot to estimate channel response by simple interpolation. This implies that the estimated channel response includes signal distortions due to the noise. In this paper, we propose time-averaged channel estimation method to remove the distortion by noise. The proposed scheme can effectively remove noise components by taking time-average of the estimated channel response after estimating frequency domain channel. The computer simulations were performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed channel estimator. For the Rician channel, we compared the performance of the proposed method to that of a conventional one using channel estimation by gaussian interpolation when SER(Symbol Error Rate) = $10^{-4}$, and compared to perfect channel estimation case. The proposed method showed differences of 0.07 dB, 0.6 dB compared to perfect channel estimation and improvements of 1.7 dB, 1.9 dB for 16 QAM, 64 QAM respectively compared to conventional method.

Camera calibration parameters estimation using perspective variation ratio of grid type line widths (격자형 선폭들의 투영변화비를 이용한 카메라 교정 파라메터 추정)

  • With 3-D vision measuring, camera calibration is necessary to calculate parameters accurately. Camera calibration was developed widely in two categories. The first establishes reference points in space, and the second uses a grid type frame and statistical method. But, the former has difficulty to setup reference points and the latter has low accuracy. In this paper we present an algorithm for camera calibration using perspective ratio of the grid type frame with different line widths. It can easily estimate camera calibration parameters such as lens distortion, focal length, scale factor, pose, orientations, and distance. The advantage of this algorithm is that it can estimate the distance of the object. Also, the proposed camera calibration method is possible estimate distance in dynamic environment such as autonomous navigation. To validate proposed method, we set up the experiments with a frame on rotator at a distance of 1, 2, 3, 4[m] from camera and rotate the frame from -60 to 60 degrees. Both computer simulation and real data have been used to test the proposed method and very good results have been obtained. We have investigated the distance error affected by scale factor or different line widths and experimentally found an average scale factor that includes the least distance error with each image. The average scale factor tends to fluctuate with small variation and makes distance error decrease. Compared with classical methods that use stereo camera or two or three orthogonal planes, the proposed method is easy to use and flexible. It advances camera calibration one more step from static environments to real world such as autonomous land vehicle use.

No-Reference Image Quality Assessment Using Complex Characteristics of Shearlet Transform (쉬어렛 변환의 복소수 특성을 이용하는 무참조 영상 화질 평가)

  • The field of Image Quality Measure (IQM) is growing rapidly in recent years. In particular, there was a significant progress in No-Reference (NR) IQM methods. In this paper, a general-purpose NR IQM algorithm is proposed based on the statistical characteristics of natural images in shearlet domain. The method utilizes a set of distortion-sensitive features extracted from statistical properties of shearlet coefficients. A complex version of the shearlet transform is employed to take advantage of phase and amplitude features in quality estimation. Furthermore, since shearlet transform can analyze the images at multiple scales, the effect of distortion on across-scale dependencies of shearlet coefficients is explored for feature extraction. For quality prediction, the features are used to train image classification and quality prediction models using a Support Vector Machine (SVM). The experimental results show that the proposed NR IQM is highly correlated with human subjective assessment and outperforms several Full-Reference (FR) and state-of-art NR IQMs.

Adaptive Fast Algorithm for Inter/Intra Prediction in H.264 (H.264의 인터/인트라 예측을 위한 적응적 고속 알고리즘)

  • The latest standard H.264 coding methods show better efficiency compared to the former coding standards from the rate distortion point of view, but also lead to high complexity. In this paper, we propose an adaptive and fast inter/intra prediction algorithm for H.264 video coding. In the inter prediction algorithm, an effective and simple mode selection method is proposed, which can adaptively adjust to motion estimation to reduce complexity. And proposed intra prediction algorithm reduces its complexity by using calculated Minimum Rate-Distortion costs in the prediction of Intra $16{\times}16$ and $4{\times}4$ modes. From experiment using JM8.4, our algorithm can reduce about $60.9\%$ of computation time as compared to JM, with only negligible PSNR and bitrate degradation.

  • This paper introduces the NLSE(Nonlinear Least Squared Estimator) using curved LOBs(Line Of Bearings) considering the earth curvature based on sphere to avoid the map conversion distortion and minimize the estimation error. This paper suggests a method improving a performance of the NLSE using curved LOBs by using an ellipsoid model. The analysis of the simulation results shows that the NLSE using curved LOBs has better performance than the conventional triangulation method and can improve its performance using a suggested method.

Power Disturbance Detection using the Inflection Point Estimation (변곡점 추정을 이용한 전력선 신호의 이상현상 검출)

  • Power line signal can show disturbances due to various causes. Typical anomalies are temporary sag/swell of the amplitude, flat topped signal, and harmonic distortions. The disturbances need to be detected and treated properly for the quality of the power signal. In this study, the power disturbances are detected using the inflection points (IP). The inflection points are defined as points where local maxima/minima or the slope changes occur. The power line signal has a fixed IP pattern since it is basically sinusoidal, and it may have additional inflection points if there is any disturbance. The disturbance is detected by comparing the IP patterns between the normal signal and distorted signal. In addition, by defining a cost function, the time instant where the disturbance happens can be decided. The computer simulation shows that the proposed method is useful for the detection of various disturbances. The simple sag or swell signal only shows the amplitude changes at the detected inflection points. However, the flat top signal and harmonically distorted signal produce additional inflection points and large values in the cost function. These results can be exploited for the further processing of disturbance classification.
