  • Efficient Global Optimization (EGO) method is a global optimization technique which can select the next sample point automatically by infill sampling criteria (ISC) and search for the global minimum with less samples than what the conventional global optimization method needs. ISC function consists of the predictor and mean square error (MSE) provided from the kriging model which is a stochastic metamodel. Also the constrained EGO method can minimize the objective function dealing with the constraints under EGO concept. In this study the constrained EGO method applied to the RAE2822 airfoil shape design formulated with the constraint. But the noisy CFD data caused the kriging model to fail to depict the true function. The distorted kriging model would make the EGO deviate from the correct search. This distortion of kriging model can be handled with the interpolation(p=free) kriging model. With the interpolation(p=free) kriging model, however, the search of EGO solution was stalled in the narrow feasible region without the chance to update the objective and constraint functions. Then the accuracy of EGO solution was not good enough. So the three-step search method was proposed to obtain the accurate global minimum as well as prevent from the distortion of kriging model for the noisy constrained CFD problem.

  • This simulation study examined the effect of data acquisition error including the data type of TEM image, and incident beam intensity of the tilt series on 3D tomograms. Simulation was performed with the 3D head phantom model of Kak and Slaney, and the slightly modified 3D head phantom model with enhanced difference in absorption coefficients. Reconstructed tomogram for the original head phantom model using 8-bit gray-scale image was distorted with extremely high level of noise, while an acceptable result was obtained for the modified model. The results for the original model using wrong formulation for the transmitted beam intensity was proved to be incorrect. The high level of noise along the z direction was found in case of the modified model. On the other hand, the wrong value of incident beam intensity in both models gave distorted results. In order to reconstruct an artifacts-free 3D structure from the projections with invisible features in electron tomography, the 16-bit projection images should be used with the correct incident beam intensity which is applied to Beer's law.

  • Most of chloride diffusion models based on finite difference method (FDM) could not express the diffusion in horizontal direction at each elevation. To overcome these weakness, two dimensional chloride ion penetration model based on finite element method (FEM) to be able to combine various multi-physics simultaneously was suggested by introducing moving mesh technique. To avoid the generation of mesh being able to be distorted depending on the relative movement of water level to static concrete, a rectangular type of mesh was intentionally adopted and the total number of meshes was empirically selected. The simulated results showed that the contents of surface chloride decreased following to the increase of elevation in the top part of low sea level, whereas there were no changes in the bottom part of low level. In the DuraCrete model, the diffusion coefficient of splashed zone is generally smaller than submerged zone, whereas the trend of Life365 model is reverse. Therefore, it could be understood that the developed model using moving mesh technique effectively reflects $DuraCrete^{TM}$ model rather than $Life365^{TM}$ model. In the future, the model will be easily expanded to be combined with various multi-physics models considering water evaporation, heat of hydration, irradiation effect of sun and so on because it is based on FEM.

  • Recently, urban information system(UIS) has been developed and utilized by local governments in Korea and has become a key means of urban informatization of local governments. When UIS is conducted only for FM oriented internal utilization regardless of its cost-efficiency, however, its cost-benefit structure could be distorted seriously. The study utilizes benefit cost analysis technique and applied the technique to a model case of Chungju UIS selected by National GIS team. Chungju City developed its GIS for the management of roads and urban planning in 1993. At its beginning, the system was an efficient model with relatively strong cost-benefit structure and could produce positive net benefit 10 years' after its construction. When the city began to develop its facility management with the financial assistance from central government in 1998, however, its cost-benefit structure became distorted. As a result, it is delayed for the UIS to produce positive net benefit until the year of 2015. Using benefit cost ratio, discount rate and Mobile GIS, the study also conducts a sensitivity analysis.

  • For precise interpretation of magnetotelluric (MT) data distorted by irregular surface terrain, topography effects are investigated by computing apparent resistivities, phases, tippers and induction vectors for a three-dimensional (3D) hill-and-valley model. To compute MT responses for the 3D surface topography model, we use a 3D MT modeling algorithm based on an edge finite-element method which is free from vector parasites. Distortions on the apparent resistivity and phase are mainly caused by distorted currents that flow along surface topography. The distribution of tipper amplitudes over both hill and valley are the same, while the tipper points toward the center of hill and the base of the valley. The real part of induction vector also points in the same direction as that of tipper, while the imaginary part in the opposite direction.

  • Firms that have adopted internet technology have been confused by distorted market signals. It is natural to look at marketplace outcomes for guidance, when confronted with a new business phenomenon. However, market signals can be unreliable in the early states of any important new information technology. New technologies trigger rampant experimentation, and the experimentation is often unsustainable. As a result, market behavior is distorted and must be interpreted cautiously. In Chapter 1, we review a concept of business model and roles of strategies in a business model. In Chapter 2, we discuss a strategic auditing method for analyzing market/channel positioning, product/service positioning, value chain/value network positioning and external environmental factors. In chapter 3, we introduces major frameworks for understanding factors forming strategies. The strategic grid model categorizes four quadrants depending on the level of impacts of information technology on operation and strategy. The strategic alignment model presents a new method of assessing an alignment of information technology and business throughout all elements of a business model. In this research, we review the concept of a business model. This research introduces factors that shape strategies and new frameworks for understanding these factors. The research objective of this manuscript is to present a guidance for firms how to use information technology for attaining sustainable competitive advantages.

  • In this paper, an external torque estimation problem in one-degree-of-freedom (1-DOF) flexible-joint robot equipped with a joint-torque sensor is revisited. Since a sensor torque from the joint-torque sensor is distorted by two dynamics having a spring connection, i.e., motor dynamics and link dynamics of a flexible-joint robot, a model-based estimation, rather than a simple linear spring model, should be required to extract external torques accurately. In this paper, an external torque estimation algorithm for a 1-DOF flexible-joint robot is proposed. This algorithm estimates both an actuating motor torque from the motor dynamics and an external link torque from the link dynamics simultaneously by utilizing the flexible-joint robot model and the Kalman filter estimation based on random-walk model. The basic structure of the proposed algorithm is explained, and the performance is investigated through a custom-designed experimental testbed for a vertical situation under gravity.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of high-rise reinforced concrete (RC) box-type wall structures commonly used for most residential buildings in Korea. For this purpose, an analytical model was calibrated with the results of the earthquake simulation tests on a 1:5 scale 10-story distorted model. This calibrated model was then transformed to a true model. The performance of the true model in terms of the stiffness, strength, and damage distribution through inelastic energy dissipation was observed with reference to the earthquake simulation test results. The model showed high overstrength factors ranging from 3 to 4. The existence of slab in this box-type wall system changed the main resistance mode in the wall from bending moment to tension/compression coupled moment through membrane actions, and increased the overall resistance capacity by about 25~35%, in comparison with the common design practice of neglecting the slab's existence. The flexibility of foundation, which is also commonly neglected in the engineering design, contributes to 30~50% of the roof drift in the stiff direction containing many walls. The possibility of concrete spalling and reinforcement buckling and fracture under the maximum considered earthquake (MCE) in Korea appears to be very low when compared with the case of the 2010 Concepcion, Chile earthquake.

  • AMR (Active Magnetic Regenerative) refrigerators require the large variation of the magnetic field and a HTS magnet can be used. The amount of AC loss is very important considering the overall efficiency of the AMR refrigerator. However, it is very hard to estimate the precise loss of the HTS magnet because the magnetic field distribution around the conductor itself depends on the coil configuration and the neighboring HTS wires interact each other through the distorted magnetic field by the screening current Therefore, the AC loss of HTS magnet should be calculated using the whole configuration of the HTS magnet with superconducting characteristic. This paper describes the AC loss of the HTS magnet by an appropriate FEM approach, which uses the non-linear characteristic of HTS conductor. The analysis model is based on the 2-D FEM model, called as 'magnetic field formulation and edge-element model', for whole coil configuration in cylindrical coordinates. The effects of transport current and stacked conductors on the AC loss are investigated considering the field-dependent critical current. The PDE model of 'Comsol multiphysics' is used for the FEM analysis with properly implemented equations for axisymmetric model.

  • This paper deals with two kinds of novel shape switched reluctance motors (SRM) with magnetic barriers in order to improve operating performances of prototype. The magnetic barriers make rotor poles more saturated, and consequently inductance profiles are distorted. The changed inductance affects input current shape and eventually torque characteristics. In order to analyze the complicated flux pattern of the SRM with magnetic barriers and its terminal characteristics simultaneously, coupled field circuit modeling method is used. The finite element method is used to model the nonlinear magnetic field, and coupled to the circuit model of the SRM overall system. After experimental results are presented to prove the accuracy of the method, the several analysis results are compared, and the improved rotor shape is presented.
