Moving Object Extraction and Distance Measurement in Stereo Vision System (스테레오 비젼 시스템에서의 이동객체 추출 및 거리 측정)

  • In this paper, we present a method to extract a moving object and to measure the distance to it by using the stereo vision system. The moving factor is to be extracted through a match of a pixel unit for the moving object where the adaptive threshold is effectively dealt with to remove changes in the brightness of the image. The distance to moving object is measured by using a stereo vision system which employs a parallel camera. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm could be effectively applied to distance measurement to moving object because it has an average error of one percent.

  • In this paper, we propose an indexing method to support efficient similarity search for sequence databases. We present a new distance measurement called minimum DTW distance to enhance the filtering effects. The minimum DTW distance is to measure the minimum distance between a sequence data and the group of similar sequences. It enables similarity search through hierarchical index structure by filtering sequence databases. Finally, we show the superiority of our method through some experiments.

  • Mobile robot localization is the task of estimating the robot pose in a given environment. This research deals with outdoor localization based on an elevation map. Since outdoor environments are large and contain many complex objects, it is difficult to robustly estimate the robot pose. This paper proposes a Hausdorff distance-based map matching method. The Hausdorff distance is exploited to measure the similarity between extracted features obtained from the robot and elevation map. The experiments and simulations show that the proposed Hausdorff distance-based map matching is useful for robust outdoor localization using an elevation map. Also, it can be easily applied to other probabilistic approaches such as a Markov localization method.

  • Many isolated word recognition systems may generate non-similar words for recognition candidates because they use only acoustic information. In this paper, we investigate several techniques which can exclude non-similar words from N-best candidate words by applying Levenstein distance measure. At first, word distance method based on phone and syllable distances are considered. These methods use just Levenstein distance on phones or double Levenstein distance algorithm on syllables of candidates. Next, word similarity approaches are presented that they use characters' position information of word candidates. Each character's position is labeled to inserted, deleted, and correct position after alignment between source and target string. The word similarities are obtained from characters' positional probabilities which mean the frequency ratio of the same characters' observations on the position. From experimental results, we can find that the proposed methods are effective for removing non-similar words without loss of system performance from the N-best recognition candidates of the systems.

  • In this paper, a new method of measuring of distance between digital images, the 2D Integra-Normalizer, is proposed and compared with the grey block distance (GBD) to show its superiority of images. The 2D Integra-Normalizer removes a restriction that the image to be compared is {{{{ { 2}^{n } }}}} dimension where n is a positive integer, which means that any dimensional image can be applied to the 2D Integra-Normalizer for measuring distance of images. In addition, the 2D Integra-Normalizer measures the distance of images more in detail than the GBD with a better interpretation that is more close to human's intuitive understanding.

  • The edit distance problem is finding the minimum number of edit operations to transform a string into another one. It is one of the important problems in algorithm research and there are some algorithms that compute an optimal edit distance for the one-dimensional languages such as the English alphabet. However, there are a few researches to find the edit distance for the more complicated language such as the Korean or Chinese alphabet. In this paper, we define the measure of the edit distance for the Korean alphabet with the phoneme classification system to improve the previous edit distance algorithm and present an algorithm for the edit distance problem for the Korean alphabet.

  • Digital image processing algorithm was proposed to measure the area inside of an object image using angle-distance graph used to analyze the pattern of an object in the digital image processing techniques. The first angle-distance graph is generated from a point inside of an object area. The second angle-distance graphs are generated for the areas missed in the first graph by extracting the positions with large gradient in the first angle-distance graph. The order of the graph increases according to the complexity of an object pattern. Size of the area inside of an object boundary is measured by integrating square of distance multiplied by angle for each area from the hierarchical angie-distance graphs.

  • One of the major problems that prevent us from building a good recognition system for large-scale on-line Chinese character recognition using HMMs is increasing recognition time. In this paper, we propose a clustering method to solve recognition speed problem and an efficient distance measure between HMMs. From the experiments, we got about twice the recognition speed and 95.37% 10-candidate recognition accuracy, which is only 0.9% decrease, for 20,902 Chinese characters defined in Unicode CJK unified ideographs.

  • Measuring similarity between two signals is a key element of the location template matching (LTM) method which is one of impact source localization technique. As a measure of similarity, the correlation coefficient is most widely used, and the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of finding the impact source. In practice, the LTM method assumes that the similarity between two signals decreases as the distance between two corresponding impact points increases, where the distance between two neighboring impact points defines the grid spacing. In this paper, it is shown that this assumption is not always true but the correlation coefficients fluctuate forming a main robe and many side robes as the distance between two neighboring impact points increases. On the other hand, the standard deviation of group delay sharply increases with a small increase of the grid spacing. These are demonstrated by using a simple cantilever beam. Based on these findings, an optimal way of implementing the LTM method may be suggested by combining the correlation coefficient and the group delay based approaches.

  • Position controls are very important in semiconductor manufacturing devices, machine tools Precision measuring instruments, etc. To measure the distance of movement of moving objects in minute units and the accuracy of measurement for the moving distance in these devices affect the performance of the whole devices. Therefore, in those Precision instruments, a sensing device that can measure the distance of movement with high-precision resolution is required. In this paper, a novel encoder of digital and analog hybrid type is proposed. It is shown that from this experiment a high-resolution angle measurement device can be designed by a low cost incremental encoder.
