  • This paper aimed to design and implement an EMS for real-time power generation control based on wake effect optimization of wind farm, and then to test it in commercial operating wind farm. For real-time control, we proposed the wake band-based optimization and setting the wake effect distance limit, and when the wake effect distance limit was set to 7D in the actual wind farm layout, the calculation time was improved by about 93.94%. In addition, we designed and implemented the script-based EMS for flexible operation logic management in preparation for unexpected issues during testing, and it was installed and tested on a wind farm in commercial operation. However, three issues arose during the testing process. These are the communication interface problem of meteorological tower, the problem of an abnormal wake effect, and the problem of wind turbine yaw control. These issues were solved by modifying the operation logic using EMS's script editor, and the test was successfully completed in the wind farm in commercial operation.

  • The welded specimens were made by butt welding of the 2 wires of 50mm length using the pulsed YAG laser. The laser welded wires were tested for investigating the shape memory effect and the ability of super elasticity. The fatigue properties of the welded wires were investigated using the rotary bending fatigue tester specially designed for wires. Moreover, the effect of defocusing distance during laser welding on the static and fatigue properties was Investigated. The shape memory effect and super elasticity of the laser welded wires were approximately identical with that of base metal at the test temperature below 353K. However, the welded wires were broken within elastic limit at the test temperature above 353k. Under the cyclic bending loading conditions, the welded wires could be useful only below the elastic limit, while the base metal had sufficient fatigue life even the stress induced M-phase region. The fatigue strength of the welded wires was about half of that of the base metal. The deterioration of the static and fatigue properties in the welded wires was proven to be from the large difference of the transformation behavior between the base metal and welded part that is caused by vaporization of Ni-content at the welded part during the welding process. The defocusing distance below 3mm acted more largely on lowering the strength of the welded wires than that of 6mm or 8mm.

  • This paper presents a new solution approach to moving obstacle avoidance problem of a robot. A new concept, avoidability measure(AVM) is defined to describe the state of a pair of a robot and an obstacle regarding the collision between them. As an AVM, virtual distance function(VDF) is derived as a function of three state variables: the distance from the obstacle to the robot, outward speed of the obstacle relative to the robot, and outward speed of the robot relative to the obstacle. By keeping the virtual distance above some positive limit value, the robot avoids the obstacle. In terms of the VDF, an artificial potential is constructed to repel the robot away from the obstacle and to attract the robot toward a goal location. At every sampling time, the artificial potential field is updated and the force driving the robot is derived from the gradient of the artificial potential field. The suggested algorithm drives the robot to avoid a moving obstacle in real time. Since the algorithm considers the mobility of the obstacle and robot as well as the distance, it is effective for moving obstacle avoidance. Some simulation studies show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • Distance Learning Education has been adopted as an alternative educational method to actively face the changing educational field. Fashion design education essentially requires not only a theoretical but also a practical process in which feedback comes through personal interactions between an instructor and a student. Hence, the existing WBI system exemplifies its limitations by applying only a one-way methodology that limit interactions based only on the theoretical texts. The objective of this study was to reveal the effects of an originally designed Distance Education program factoring in a teaching-learning methodology that addresses the practical demands of a fashion design program. So It analyzed the pre-existing conditions through a questionnaire survey of 472 students and 60 fashion design instructors to determine how the traditional fashion design education is different from other programs and which method is being applied. then, It designed and applied an original web-based distance educational system specifically incorporating the needs of the fashion design curriculum based on the data collected from the survey questionnaire.

  • Refuse collection network design, one of major decision problems in reverse logistics, is the problem of locating collection points and allocating refuses at demand points to the opened collection points. As an extension of the previous models, we consider capacity and maximum allowable distance constraints at each collection point. In particular, the maximum allowable distance constraint is additionally considered to avoid the impractical solutions in which collection points are located too closely. Also, the additional distance constraint represents the physical distance limit between collection and demand points. The objective is to minimize the sum of fixed costs to open collection points and variable costs to transport refuses from demand to collection points. After formulating the problem as an integer programming model, we suggest an optimal branch and bound algorithm that generates all feasible solutions by a simultaneous location and allocation method and curtails the dominated ones using the lower bounds developed using the relaxation technique. Also, due to the limited applications of the optimal algorithm, we suggest two heuristics. To test the performances of the algorithms, computational experiments were done on a number of test instances, and the results are reported.

  • The relations of fuzzy entropy, distance measure, and similarity measure are discussed in this paper. For the purpose of reliable signal selection, the fuzzy entropy is proposed by a distance measure. Properness of the proposed entropy is verified by the definition of the entropy measure. Fourier and Wavelet transform are applied to the stator current signal to obtain the fault features of an induction motor. Membership functions for 3-phase currents are obtained by the Bootstrap method and Central Limit Theorem. Finally, the proposed entropy is applied to measure the fault signal of an induction machine, and the fuzzy entropy values of phase currents are illustrated.

  • In this study, the rotary bending fatigue test was carried out with two kinds of base metal, martensite stainless steel STR3 and austenite stainless steel STR35 and the dissimilar friction welded material with them. To compare the fatigue fifes according to the notch positions, the small circular defect was worked on the bonded line, 1.0mm and 0.5mm distance form the bonded line. The fatigue limits of the STR3 and STR35 base metal were 429.0MPa and 409.4MPa respectably. In comparison with fatigue life at the same notch positions, the STR35 specimens showed about 190% for base metal, 82% for 1.0mm distance notched specimens higher than that of the STR3. But the fatigue life of the 0.5mm distance notched STR35 specimen showed about 35% lower than that of the STR3 specimen. And the bonded line notched specimen was much lower fatigue life than the other specimens because of separation of the bonded line.

  • We consider a particle walking on the nonnegative integers and each unit of time it makes, given it is at site k, either a jump of size m distance units to the right with probability $p_{k}$ or it goes back (falls down) to its starting point 0, a retaining barrier, with probability $v_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$. This is a Markov chain on the integers $mZ^{+}$. We show that if $v_{k}$ has a nonzero limit, then the Markov chain is positive recurrent. However, if $v_{k}$ speeds to 0, then we may get transient Markov chain. A critical speeding rate to zero is identified to get transience, null recurrence, and positive recurrence. Another type of random walk on $Z^{+}$ is considered in which a particle moves m distance units to the right or 1 distance unit to left with probabilities $p_{k}\;and\;q_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$, respectively. A necessary condition to having a stationary distribution and positive recurrence is obtained.

  • Two dimensional modeling was carried out to find the safety distance between the defrost heater and the plastic inner wall of domestic refrigerator Estimation was processed for the three cases; the estimation of plastic wall temperature (1) without any protection, (2) with an aluminum foil attached on a wall, and (3) with an aluminum shield installed between heater and wall. The former two cases are found to be dangerous during defrosting process, because the temperatures of inner wall reach above 80'C , which is the upper temperature limit of the wall material. The case with an aluminum shield is considered to be safe by maintaining the temperature of the wall in the range of 6$0^{\circ}C$ during defrosting process.

  • Utility-based routing is a special type of routing approach using a composite utility metric when making routing decisions in ad hoc and sensor networks. Previous studies on the utility-based routing all use fixed retry limit and a very simple distance related energy model, which makes the utility maximization less efficient and the implementation separated from practice. In this paper, we refine the basic utility model by capturing the correlation of the transmit power, the retry limit, the link reliability and the energy cost. A routing algorithm based on the refined utility model with adaptive transmit power and retry limit allocation is proposed. With this algorithm, packets with different priorities will automatically receive utility-optimal delivery. The design of this algorithm is based on the observation that for a given benefit, there exists a utility-maximum route with optimal transmit power and retry limit allocated to intermediate forwarding nodes. Delivery along the utility-optimal route makes a good balance between the energy cost and the reliability according to the value of the packets. Both centralized algorithm and distributed implementations are discussed. Simulations prove the satisfying performance of the proposed algorithm.
