The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of cyclodextrins (CDs) and different acids on the solubility of fluconazole, and o formulate its more concentrated parenteral aqueous solution. Solubility studies of fluconazole with 7-CD, 2-hydroxypropyl-$\beta$-CD (HPCD), sulfobutyl ether $\beta$-CD (SBCD) and dimethyl-$\beta$-CD(DMCD) were performed. The aqueous solubility of fluconazole was measured in different concentrations of different acids with or without addition of CDs. Solubility of fluconazole increased in the rank order of $\beta$-CD$^1$H-NMR studies confirmed the formation of an inclusion complex of fluconazole with HPCD. It was also shown by the NMR studies that the complex formed was a 1:1 complex. Among the different acids used, maleic acid and phosphoric acid increased solubility of fluconazole. The lower the pH of solution is, the more fluconazole dissolved, regardless of acids. Addition of HPCD (50 mM) to acid solutions increased the solubility about two times. New fluconazole injections at a dose of 10 mg/ml could be prepared in aqueous solutions containing 10% HPCD or 15% SBCD. These parenteral solutions did not form any precipitates at 4$^{\circ}C$ and was very stable at elevated temperatures. These results demonstrate that it is possible to develop a parenteral aqueous solution of fluconazole with a smaller injection volume using HPCD or SBCD.
The relationships between evolution of microstructure and mechanical properties of porous Al-3Si-2Mg-2Cu alloy after the foaming and various heat treating were investigated. The foamed alloy having various densities were manufactured by powder compact foaming and heat treated. Then compression test was performed with deformation rate of 0.5/s. The ultimate compression strength was not changed after solution heat treatment but the flow curve after ultimate strength showed very smooth and uniform plateau region. This change of flow curve means that the deformation mechanism is altered from brittle fracture to ductile deformation and the energy absorption property of Al foam is dramatically improved. The improvement of energy absorption without any detriment of mechanical properties is due to that the very brittle precipitation like Al-Cu and Al-Mg was uniformly dissolved in Al matrix after solution heat treatment. And various mechanical properties of Al alloy porous material were improved by 40% with aging of $200^{\circ}C$ and 50min. These improvements are ascribe to the various fine precipitates like $\Omega$ and $\theta$'.
Scutellaria baicalensis $G_{EORGI}$ (Scutellariae Radix) has been used to clear heat and to dry dampness in the stomach or intestines, which manifests as diarrhea or dysenteric disorder. In this study, we investigated the effective preparation of active components in Scutellariae Radix using the methods of solvent extraction and absorption fractionation for the development of new functional food or pharmaceuticals. The marker substances, baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside, and wogonin were directly isolated from the Scutellariae Radix. There chemical structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. The Scutellariae Radix was extracted with hot water. To enhance yield of flavonoids in Scutellariae Radix, the hot water extract was dissolved in ethanol with concentration dependent manner. The precipitates were separated using centrifugal techniques at 10,000 rpm. Supernatant liquid was applied to the HPLC for quantification of major compounds. Separately, the hot water extract was absorbed on Diaion HP-20 resin. And then, the absorbed fraction was eluted with methanol for HPLC. The contents of baicalin, baicalein, wogonoside and wogonin in different treatment methods were analyzed by HPLC. Total amount of four major components were 16.9% in 50% ethanol extract, 21.7% in 70% ethanol extract, 20.5% in 90% ethanol extract, and 39.3% in absorbed fraction of Diaion HP-20 resin. In these results, we found that resin absorption method is suitable for the extraction of enriched flavonoids from Scutellariae Radix.

The influence of fission products' contents on the DUPIC fuel powder and pellet properties was experimentally evaluated using SIMFUEL as a surrogate for actual spent PWR fuel due to the high radioactivity of spent fuel. Pure $UO_2$ and SIMFUEL pellets with fission products equivalent to a burn-up of 35,000 MWd/tU and 60,000 MWd/tU were used as impurities in this study. The specific surface area of the powder milled after the OREOX treatment increased and resulted in sintered pellets with a theoretical density (TD) higher than 95%, regardless of the impurity contents. However, the grain size of the sintered pellets decreased with the increasing impurity contents. As a result of the dissolved oxides in $UO_2$ from the impurity groups, the specific surface area of the OREOX powder increased with an increase of the impurities. The grain size of the sintered pellets was significantly decreased by the metallic and oxide precipitates.
In an attempt to develop a non-aqueous liquid formulation of practically insoluble biphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (DDB), dissolution and permeation studies were performed. Various non-aqueous DDB solutions were formulated and filled into empty hard capsules. Dissolution rates of a new formulation were compared with those of commercially available DDB preparations using one and eight dose units. Dissolution rates after 2 hr of DDB tablets (DDB 25 mg), hard capsules (DDB 7.5 mg) and soft capsules (DDB 7.5 mg) on market and new formulation (DDB 7.5 mg) were 6.3, 15.0, 84.5 and 98.0%, respectively. Higher doses (8 units) resulted in a supersaturation within one hr of dissolution, and dissolved amounts were reduced markedly. Due to the saturation and precipitation, a directly proportional dose-dissolution relationship was not observed. The addition of copolyvidone and/or glycyrrhizic acid ammonium salt to DDB solution in polyethylene glycol 300 and 400 inhibited the formation of precipitates during dissolution and markedly enhanced the rabbit duodenal permeation of DDB. From the site-specific gastrointestinal permeation studies, it was found that permeation rates of DDB after mixing of non-aqueous DDB solutions with aqueous buffered solutions were faster in the order of $rectal\;<\;colonic\;{\risingdotseq}\;ileal\;{\risingdotseq}\;duodenal\;<\;jejunal\;<\;gastric$.
Premicellar precipitation, resolubilization and luminescing behaviors of $RuL_3^{2+}$ (L = bpy, phen, $Me_2bpy$) in aqueous alkylsulfate and sulfonate solutions were studied. Addition of the anionic surfactants to $RuL_3\;^{2+}$ solutions caused initial precipitation which was redissolved by further addition of the surfactants. The apparent solubility products $K_{sp}$'s of the precipitates were evaluated assuming 1:2 salt formation. The values were smaller as the ligand is more hydrophobic and the length of hydrocarbon chain of the surfactant is longer. The $K_{sp}$ values for L = bpy were constant over wide surfactant concentration range. However, those for L = $Me_2bpy$ and also for phen, but to less extent, increased with the surfactant concentration. The resolubilization of 1:2 salts was followed by red-shift of emission band and extensive emission quenching above critical concentration of the surfactants. The critical concentration was lower for more hydrophobic surfactant. For L = $Me_2bpy$, the blue-shifted emission band with enhanced emission intensity was observed in intermediate surfactant concentration region. The high ionic strength of media prevented the precipitate formation, but facilitated the red-shift of the emission bands. The results support that the precipitate is dissolved by accretion of surfactant anions to the salts to form water-soluble surfactant-rich $RuL_3$-surfactant anionic species. These species appeared to aggregate cooperatively to produce large clusters which exhibited the red-shifted emission.
The study was conducted to investigate the effects of indigenous bacteria on geochemical behavior of toxic heavy metals in contaminated paddy soil near an abandoned mine. The effects of sulfate amendment to stimulate microbial sulfate reduction on heavy metal behaviors were also investigated. Batch-type experiments were performed with lactate or glucose as a carbon source to activate indigenous bacteria in the soil under anaerobic condition for 100 days. Sulfate (250 mg/L) was artificially injected at 60 days after the onset of the experiments. In the case of glucose supply, solution pH increased from 4.8 to 7.6 while pH was maintained at 7~8 in the lactate solution. The initial low pH in the case of glucose supply likely resulted in the enhanced extraction of Fe and most heavy metals at the initial experimental period. Lactate supply exerted no significant difference on the amounts of dissolved Zn, Pb, Ni and Cu between microbial and abiotic control slurries; however, lower Zn, Pb and Ni and higher Cu concentrations were observed in the microbial slurries than in the controls when glucose supplied. Sulfate amendment led to dramatic decrease in dissolved Cr and maintenance of dissolved As, both of which had gradually increased over time till the sulfate injection. Black precipitates formed in solution after sulfate amendment, and violarite($Fe^{+2}{Ni^{+3}}_2S_4$) was found with XRD analysis in the microbial precipitates. Conceivably the mineral might be formed after Fe(III) reduction and microbial sulfate reduction with coprecipitation of heavy metal. The results suggested that heavy metals which can be readily extracted from contaminated paddy soils may be stabilized in soil formation by microbial sulfate reduction.

The effect of cooling rate on precipitation hardening of a Pd-Cu-Ga-Zn metal-ceramic alloy during porcelain firing simulation was investigated and the following results were obtained. When the cooling rate was fast (Stage 0), the hardness of the alloy increased at each firing step and the high hardness value was maintained. When the cooling rate was slow (Stage 3), the hardness was the highest at the first stage of the firing, but the final hardness of the alloy after complete firing was lower. The increase in hardness of the specimens cooled at the cooling rate of Stage 0 after each firing step was caused by precipitation hardening. The decrease in hardness of the specimens cooled at the cooling rate of Stage 3 after each firing step was attributed to the coarsening of the spot-like precipitates formed in the matrix and plate-like precipitates. The matrix and the plate-like precipitates were composed of the $Pd_2(Cu,Ga,Zn)$ phase of CsCl-type, and the particle-like structure was composed of the Pd-rich ${\alpha}$-phase of face-centered cubic structure. Through the porcelain firing process, Cu, Ga, and Zn, which were dissolved in Pd-rich ${\alpha}$ particles, precipitated with Pd, resulting in the phase separation of the Pd-rich ${\alpha}$ particles into the Pd-rich ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ particles and ${\beta}^{\prime}$ precipitates composed of $Pd_2(Cu,Ga,Zn)$. These results suggested that the durability of the final prosthesis made of the Pd-Cu-Ga-Zn alloy can be improved when the cooling rate is fast during porcelain firing simulation.

The red mud generated from bauxite during the Bayer alumina production process has been regarded as an industrial waste due to the high alkaline property and high content of Na. Despite of its environmental problem, various studies for recovery of the valuable resources from red mud has been also carried out because of high content (25.7 wt.% as Fe2O3 in this study) of iron in red mud. In order to recover the iron resource in the red mud, microwave heating experiments were performed with adding of activated carbon and elemental sulfur to the red mud. Through the microwave heating the powdered red mud mixtures converted to porous and vitrified solid aggregates. The vitrified aggregates produced by microwave heating are composed of goethite, zero valent iron (Fe0), pyrrhotite and pyrite. And then, the microwave heating samples were dissolved in the aqua regia solution, and Fe precipitates were obtained as a Fe-chlorides by adding of NaCl salt in the aqua regia solution. The Fe recovery rates in the Fe-chloride precipitates showed differences depending on the experimental mixture conditions, and Fe grades of the end products are 49.0 wt.%, 58.0 wt.% and 59.5 wt.% under mixture conditions of red mud, red mud + activated carbon, and red mud + activated carbon + elemental S, respectively. The Fe content of 56.0 wt.% is generally known as the grade value of Fe in a iron ore for iron production, and the Fe grades of microwave heating samples with adding activated carbon and elemental S in this study are higher than the grade value of 56.0 wt.%.

The organic precipitate flotation using Cu(II)-pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate complex as a coprecipitant was studied for the preconcentration and determination of trace Cd, Pb, Bi and Co in several water samples. Experimental conditions such as pH of solution, amounts of Cu(II) and ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate(APDC), stirring time, the type and amount of surfactant, etc. were optimized for the effective flotation of analytes. After 3.0 mL of 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$ Cu(II) solution was added to 1.00 L water sample, the pH of the solution was adjusted to 2.5 with HNO3 solution. Trace amounts of analytes were coprecipitated by adding 2.0% APDC solution. And the precipitates were flotated onto the surface of solution with the aid of nitrogen gas and sodium lauryl sulfate. The floats were collected from mother liquor, and filtered through the micropore glass filter by suction. The precipitates were dissolved with 4 mL conc. HNO3, and then diluted to 25.00 mL with deionized water. The analytes were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. This flotation technique was applied to the analysis of some water samples, and the 90 to 120% of recoveries were obtained from the spiked samples, this procedure could be concluded to be simple and applicable for the trace element analysis in various kinds of water.
