  • To evaluate steam oxidation behaviours of Alloy 617 and Haynes 230, oxidation test were performed at $900^{\circ}C$ in steam and $steam+20\;vol.-%\;H_2$ environments. Oxidation rate in steam condition was similar to that in air for Alloy 617, while it was slightly lower for Haynes 230. When hydrogen was added to steam, oxidation rate was enhanced. Isolated $MnTiO_3$ particle were formed on $Cr_2O_3$ oxide layer and sub layer $Cr_2O_3$ were formed in steam and $steam+20\;vol.-%\;H_2$ for Alloy 617. On the other hands, $MnCr_2O_3$ layer were formed on top of $Cr_2O_3$ oxide layer for Haynes 230. The extensive sub layer $Cr_2O_3$ formation was resulted from the oxygen inward diffusion in such environments. When hydrogen was added, the oxide morphology was changed from polygonal to platelet because of the accelerated diffusion of cations under the oxide layer. In addition, decarburized zone was extended as hydrogen participated into the reactions causing carbide dissolution.

  • Spinel $LiMn_{2-y}Mn_{y}O_4$ powder was prepared solid-state method by calcining the mixture of $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$, $MnO_2$ and MgO at $800^{\circ}C$ for 36h. To investigate the effect of temperature for cycle behaviour of cathode material during cycling, charge-discharge experiments and initial impedance spectroscopy performed by the condition of the charge-discharge temperature. Initial charge-discharge capacity was gradually increased by rising charge-discharge temperature. However, capacity was suddenly decreased at high temperature during cycling. Capacity at low temperature was almost constant during cycling. It confirmed because Mn dissolution is more serious at high temperature than at low temperature.

  • The corrosion of pure titanium (CP- Ti Grade 2) and titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V ELI) were studied under various conditions of simulated body fluids. The static immersion test and the electrochemical test were performed in accordance with ISO 10271 : 2001. For the electrochemical test, the open circuit potential was monitored as a function of time, and the cyclic polarization curve was recorded. The corrosion resistance was evaluated from the values of corrosion potential, passivation current density, breakdown potential, and the shape of hysteresis etc. The effects of alloy type, surface condition, temperature, oxygen, and constituents in the fluids such as acid, chloride were estimated. Both specimens had extremely low dissolution rate in the static immersion test. They showed strong passivation characteristics in the electrochemical test. They maintained negligible current density throughout the wide anodic potential range. The passive layer was not broken up to 2.0 V (vs. SCE). The hysteresis and the shift of passivation potential toward the anodic direction was observed during the reversed scan. The passivation process appeared to be accelerated by oxygen in air or that dissolved in the fluids. The passivation also proceeded without oxygen by the reaction of constituents in the fluids. Acid or chloride in the fluids, specially later weakened the passive layer, and then induced higher passivation current density and less shift of passivation potential in the reversed scan. CP-Ti Grade 2 was more reactive than Ti6Al4V ELI in the fluids containing acid or chloride, but thicker layer produced on its surface provided higher corrosion resistance.

  • The propriety of the numerical model application was examined on Paldang resevoir and its inflow tributaries located in the center of the Korean peninsula and the long term water quality forecast of the oxygen profile was carried out in this syduy. The input data of the model was the capacity of the reservoir, catchment area, percolation, diffusion rate, vertical mixing rate, dissolution rate from the bottom of the reservoir, outflow of the resevoir, water quality measurement and meteorology data of the drainage basin, and the output result was the annual estimation value of the dissolved oxygen concentration and the biochemical oxygen demand. The modeling method is based on the measured or calculated boundary condition dividing the water area into several blocks from the macorscopic aspect and considering the mass balance in these blocks. As the result of the water quality forecast, it was expected that the water quality in Northern Han River and Paldang reservoir would maintain the recent level, but that the water quality in the Southern Han River and its inflow tributary would worsen below the grade 4 of the life environmental standard from around 2000 owing to the decrease of DO concentration and the increase of BOD concentration.

  • Naphthoquinone-1,2-diazide-5-sulfonyl[NDAS] derivatives members of quinone diazide compound that are utilizable as photosensitive polymer material were synthesized, and photoresist were prepared by mixing these derivatives with m-cresol novolak(a matrix resin) at various weight ratios. Photosensitive characteristics of photoresist were studied by examining UV and IR, relative sensitivity using a Gray scale method, and SEM to analyze if they can be used as photosensitive material in printing process. Experimental results showed that, by UV, NDAS derivatives were photoconverted and developer-soluble photoresist were produced. The mixing ratio of 1:4(by mass) of NDAS+p-ydroxybenzophenone+sensitizer and m-cresol novolak gave rise to the highest dissolution rate. In addition, photoresist obtained at this condition resulted in the most superior sensitivity and contrast.

  • For the development of reformation material of soft ground using the LD slag, the relation to the particle condition of LD slag and the pH behavior of slag dissolution water, extraction properties of slag, and origination of white water were investigated. When the LD slag is mixed with sea water, the pH of solution ranged between 9.47 and 10.0. On the other hand, when mixed with distilled water, the pH was about 10.4 to 12.1. For the as-received slag and the aged slag in sea water, a pH of 11.5 to 12.0 was observed when the particle size was less than 0.5mm. For the reoxidized slag in seawater, the pH of the solution was lower than 9.5 when the particle size was bigger than 0.075mm. For the aged slag and reoxidized slag, the pH of the solution remained constant when the addition ratio of sea water to the slag was higher than 500 times. The main elements dissolved from the slag were Ca and Mg ions. When the pH went over 9.0, the white water started to font which was caused by the CaCO$_3$and Mg(OH)$_2$.

  • Amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) can readily be prepared using ethanol as the reaction medium and ammonium carbonate as the source of carbon dioxide. Other additives, or any elaborate pH control are not needed to form the initial calcium carbonate precipitate. Ammonia generated from ammonium carbonate maintains the reaction medium in a neutral or weakly basic condition, retarding the crystallization of ACC, while ethanol itself inhibits the dissolution of ACC. The ACC prepared in this way provides a rare opportunity to fabricate molded biomimetic crystals in vitro, but the ACC is too fragile to be fabricated into proper shapes. The malleability of ACC is, however, greatly enhanced by incorporating poly(ethylenimine) (PEI). The ACC/PEI composite can then be fabricated, using a proper mold or template, into mechanically durable biomimetic crystals of definite shape. The ACC in the ACC/PEI composite can further be transformed into vaterite by heating under N2 atmosphere, while the native ACC simply converts into calcite.

  • This paper presents the analysis results for the core degradation processes and the fission product release of the PHEBUS FPT0 experiment using MELCOR1.8.3. The objective of this study is to assess models associated with the core damage and fission product behavior in MELCOR. The calculation results were much improved through sensitivity studies. Thermal/hydraulic behavior in the core and the circuit was well predicted under the intact core geometry. In non-eutectic model case. the UO$_2$ dissolution model in the MELCOR always showed such a tendency that the resulting dissolved UO$_2$ mass was small at the highly oxidized condition due to the model logic. Total H$_2$ generation mass was underpredicted because the stiffner was not modeled and the liner in the shroud was not allowed to be oxidized in MELCOR. Some difficulties were found in modeling the activation product were solved by manipulating the RN input associated with the initial fission product inventory. These problem were occurred because there are no control rod model in MELCOR. Generally the fission product release ratio showed a similar trend compared with the measured data except the activation product. which have no model to simulate in MELCOR.

  • Paleoceanographic history of the East Sea is reconstructed based on several environmental parameters (coarse fraction content, planktonic foraminifera/benthic foraminifera ratio, fragmentation and assemblages of planktonic foraminifera, and coiling ratio of Neogloboquadrina pa-chyderma, etc,) of the late Quaternary sediments obtained from the Ulleung Basin. N. pa-chydeyma and Globigerina bulloides are dominant species (greater than 90% in abundance)among the total planktonic foraminifera assemblages in the late Quaternary sediments. The benthic foraminifera rarely occurred throughout the cores. Sinistrally-coiled specimens of N. pa-chyderma representing cold water temperature are observed more abundantly than dextrally-coil-ed ones. In addition, the sinistrally-coiled N, pachydeyma showed more the amount at the lower part of the cores than at the upper part suggesting the restriction of the Tsushima Warm Current into the East Sea during glacial period. G. bulloides, a species representative of upwelling condition, shows more abundant occurrence in the sediments of Core 941013 than those of Core 941006. This implies that Core 941013 is more influenced by upwelling than Core 941006. The upper part of the two cores contain more fragmentation of planktonic foraminifera suggesting significant dissolution by corrosive bottom wafer. Ascending CCD also played an important role for the absence of planktonic foraminifera at the upper part of the cores.

  • Heavy metal ion immobilization properties of microporous ettringite (3Ca$O{\cdot}Al_2O_3{\cdot}3CaSO_4{\cdot}32H_2$) body were examined using standard solutions of typical heavy metals. Microporous Ettringite body with desirable shape for an ionic adsorbent was obtained by the self hardening of the paste prepared from the mixture of tricalcium aluminate($C_3$A) and gypsum(CaS$O_4{\cdot}2H_2$O). Crushed grains of ettringite were soaked in each standard solutions of Pb, Co, Cd, Mn and Cr concentrated at 200 ppm. In order to evaluate the ionexchange and immobilization ability, the ionic concentration of the filtrate solution as well as the solution obtained after leaching test was measured. As a result, for the heavy metal ions excepting Cr, porous ettringite body was revealed to be excellent in ionic exchange and immobilization properties though some ions eluted at the severe condition of pH 2. The adsorption and keeping capacity for four heavy metals showed the order of $Pb{>}Co{>}Cd{>}$Mn.
