  • Texture imaging, which means texture image creation by co-occurrence relation, has been known as one of the useful image analysis methodologies. For this purpose, most commercial remote sensing software provides texture analysis function named GLCM (Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix). In this study, texture-imaging program based on GLCM algorithm is newly implemented. As well, texture imaging modules for GLDV (Grey Level Difference Vector) are contained in this program. As for GLCM/GLDV Texture imaging parameters, it composed of six types of second order texture functions such as Homogeneity, Dissimilarity, Energy, Entropy, Angular Second Moment, and Contrast. As for co-occurrence directionality in GLCM/GLDV, two direction modes such as Omni-mode and Circular mode newly implemented in this program are provided with basic eight-direction mode. Omni-mode is to compute all direction to avoid directionality complexity in the practical level, and circular direction is to compute texture parameters by circular direction surrounding a target pixel in a kernel. At the second phase of this study, some case studies with artificial image and actual satellite imagery are carried out to analyze texture images in different parameters and modes by correlation matrix analysis. It is concluded that selection of texture parameters and modes is the critical issues in an application based on texture image fusion.

  • We performed RAPD analysis to investigate the inter-/intraspecific relationships and regional variations of Phragmites japonica and P. communis according to the environmental change. One hundred and fourty nine genetic effective polymorphic bands between 300 bp and 1,900 bp were marked from RAPD PCR with nine oligoprimers. From the RAPD analysis by Nei-Li's genetic distance, the dissimilarity indices among the populations of Phragmites japonica were relatively low from 0.012 to 0.061, and Phragmites communis were also low from 0.033 to 0.095. It showed the close genetic relationships among the same species populations, and both species were distinctly independent with relatively high level of dissimilarity indices (0.043 - 0.132). The obvious genetic markers to distinguish two species were confirmed and those profiles were suggested. From the UPGMA phenogram by RAPD analysis, both species showed the water environment related cluster patterns by distributional regions. RAPD analysis was useful to delimit two species taxonomically and to investigate the genetic relationships among inter-/intraspecific populations.

  • A kite in Japanese is the octopus. The reason is that when they saw the tail of the kite, they remembered the foot of octopus. And this kinds of associative action is called a mitate(見立て) in Japanese. Mitate is similar to metaphor, but these two concepts are somewhat different in causing laugh. Korean and Chinese comedic story's metaphor cause laugh by similarity of two things, but Japanese comedic story's mitate cause laugh by dissimilarity of two things. Chinese and Korean comedic stories focus on 90%'s similarity of two things, but Japanese comedic stories focus on 10%'s dissimilarity of two things. So, in this paper, I tried to consider the mitate of comedic stories of East Asia, and I found that there are the following three features. First, we can see the tendency of Chinese and Korean comedic stories's mitate concern on the human body's physical weakness. But, Japanese comedic stories subject to not the human body's physical weakness but the human's professional or identification temperament. Second, East Asian's comedic stories mitate which related character and word play came from the method of decomposition of Chinese characters, for that area's people have used Chinese characters for a long time. However, there are different cases in Japanese comedic story's Chinese characters mitate, where that characters mitate is combined with two different type's characters, for example, to associate one Chinese character and another Japanese characters, hiragana or katakana. Third, there are next type's mitate which came from misunderstanding of Chinese characters, it can be seen in Chinese and Korean comedic stories. Perhaps, this pattern related with Chinese three syllable's character pattern, which is a Chinese traditional word and character play.

  • Analysis of population structure of Oncorhynchus keta, the most abundant salmon in the East Sea of Korea, has not been much carried out despite its importance as a fishery resource in the North Pacific. Currently, molecular methods are being applied to stock identification and a method of using single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) is getting more popular. In this study, we analyzed the 720 bp long sequence of the mtDNA COIII-ND3-ND4L region in order to examine genetic similarity-dissimilarity among the Korea chum salmons of each stream and their relationship with the Japan chum salmons. A total of 152 individuals were analyzed, 108 from 3 locations of Korea and 44 from 2 locations of japan, which resulted in as many as 29 different haplotypes. Pairwise $F_{ST}$ and AMOVA tests of the populations show that there is no significant population-level genetic difference among the chum salmons analyzed ($F_{ST}<0.07$). On the other hand, haplotype relationships among the individuals reveal that approximately 25% of the Korea salmons consist genetic lineages independent of Japan salmons and also that a genetic lineage exists in the Puk river and the Namdae river salmons independent of the Wangpi river salmons of Korea.

  • Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to survey genetic variability among 34 Botrytis cinerea isolates from nine different host plants in Korea. For RAPD analysis, 115 arbitrary decamer primers were initially screened for polymorphic major DNA bands with 11 representative B. cinerea isolates. Eleven primers that initially detected polymorphisms were tested a second time with additional 23 isolates of B. cinerea as well as one isolate of Botrytis squamosa as an outgroup. The RAPD analyses revealed that all isolates except one showed different molecular phenotypes. Dendrograms obtained from dissimilarity matrices using the unweighted paired group method of arithmetic means (UPGMA) showed the 36.4% to 90.0% similarity among all B. cinerea isolates. The B. squamosa isolate showed the least similarity to all B. cinerea isolates. The cluster analyses indicated no correlation among all the characteristics examined including molecular phenotypes, host and geographic origins, year of isolation, or pathogenicity. The RAPD data suggest that a high level of genetic variation exists among Korean populations of B. cinerea and it seems to be caused by heterokaryosis among preexisting molecular phenotypes.

  • This paper describes the development of a robotic maintenance system for use in a maintenance operation of the nozzle dam in a water chamber of a steam generator at the Kori nuclear power plant in Korea. The robotic maintenance system was designed to minimize the personnel exposure to a hazardous radioactive environment. This robotic maintenance system is operated by a teleoperated control which was designed to perform the nozzle dam maintenance tasks in a remote manner without endangering the human workers. Specific maintenance tasks involve the transportation, insertion, and removal of nozzle dams in a water chamber inside a steam generator via a narrow man-way entrance port. The developed robotic maintenance system has two major subsystems: a two degrees of freedom guiding device acting as the main guiding arm and a master-slave manipulator with a kinematic dissimilarity. The mechanical design considerations, control system, and capabilities of the robotic maintenance system are presented. Finally, a graphical representation of the nozzle dam maintenance processes in a simulated work environment are also demonstrated.

  • In this paper, a method for measuring rhythmic similarity between two sound signals for auditory memory game is proposed. The proposed method analyzes energy fluctuation, the temporal duration of energy peak, the timbre of two signals, and detects beat positions for each signal. Then, it determines the rhythm vector after compensating a difference in tempo and the number of beats between two signals. Finally, a method for rhythmic similarity measurement is defined as a function of the dissimilarity between two rhythm vectors and a difference in the number of beats. The rhythmic similarity measured by the proposed method and that by the subjective listening test are compared, and the correlation of 0.86 between two results is achieved.

  • In recent years, multifractal-based analysis methods have been widely applied in engineering. Among these methods, multifractal detrended cross-correlation analysis (MFDXA), a branch of fractal analysis, has been successfully applied in the fields of finance and biomedicine. For its great potential in reflecting the subtle characteristic among signals, a structural health monitoring (SHM) system based on MFDXA is proposed. In this system, damage assessment is conducted by exploiting the concept of multifractal theory to quantify the complexity of the vibration signal measured from a structure. According to the proposed algorithm, the damage condition is first distinguished by multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis. Subsequently, the relationship between the q-order, q-order detrended covariance, and length of segment is further explored. The dissimilarity between damaged and undamaged cases is visualized on contour diagrams, and the damage location can thus be detected using signals measured from different floors. Moreover, a damage index is proposed to efficiently enhance the SHM process. A seven-story benchmark structure, located at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE), was employed for an experimental verification to demonstrate the performance of the proposed SHM algorithm. According to the results, the damage condition and orientation could be correctly identified using the MFDXA algorithm and the proposed damage index. Since only the ambient vibration signal is required along with a set of initial reference measurements, the proposed SHM system can provide a lower cost, efficient, and reliable monitoring process.

  • Many themes have been studied for FMS problems. But most researches have focused on specific themes; Machine selection, Loading, Routing, Machine layout, etc. So many decision makers who want to introduce FMS to his factory, have many problems, because they do not know either what size of FMS should be introduced or what amount of money should be invested. The objective of this research is to help the decision makers who want to introduce FMS. This research consists of three major part, first, Machine selection, second, Loading, and third, Machine Layout. In the first part of the research, machines are selected with minimum cost satisfying the given demand of each part. In the second part, each operations with its required tools are allocated to those machines. In the third part the locations of each selected machines are determined. And dissimilarity coefficients between each pair of machines are calculated as the measure of distance. With above three steps, we have selected machines, allocated operations to those machines, and the layout configuration of those machines. And for each three steps, Mixed Integer Programming models are formulated. In order to solve the large problems and reduce the computer execution time, three heuristic algorithms are developed for the three mixed integer programming models.

  • The research has the aim of defining the special characteristics of the functionalist fashion design in the 20th century by understanding the essence of functionalism in the sociocultural contexts and studying functionalism in fashion design and architectural and product design by the comparative. Giving careful consideration to functionalist fashion design in the 20th century makes it possible to foresee the way of fashion design to meet the needs of the moderns and men of the future world. To obtain the purposes, documentary study and comparative study have been executed. Main results are as follows. Functionalism stressed in the beginning of the 20th century can be defined and categorized using three analogies, mechanical analogy of futuristic quality based on mechanical aesthetics and standardization by mass production, organic analogy in which the perfect beauty of nature is stressed on, moral analogy of fitness for purpose and absence of ornament based on integrity and sincerity. In while, functionalism in 1990s has been developed in different ways from those analogies. In comparative studies, functionalist fashion design and architectural and product design have the dissimilarity as well as the similarity of formative features. Since fashion design has much closer relation to human body and movements. it has been expressed considering a division of men and women and the places and times for the designs more than other designs.
