Costs have long since become a major issue in railway system analysis, attention is not limited to the acquisition costs alone, but encompasses all costs involved in the use and disposal of the systems. Concepts such as Life Cycle Cost(LCC), Costs Of Ownership(COO), or Total Ownership Cost(TOC) are more and more frequent in any document dealing with system analysis. Most of railway projects have applied this LCC Model to evaluate effectiveness of system acquisition cost. But these action of LCC model does not applied all the rest of system life cycle period due to the differences of its responsibility. This is why a study has been undertaken by the operation party to harmonize the most important aspects of the LCC model. This study focused on these and other objectives for introduction of method and needs for an action plan for maintenance actions involved relevant cost allocation.

Life cycle costing is one of the most effective approaches for the cost analysis of long-term life products, like as railroad vehicle. Life cycle costing includes the cost of concept design, development, manufacture, operating, maintenance and disposal. Especially, life cycle costing in the railroad industry has been focused on the maintenance cost. In this paper, we investigated the standard, guide and maintenance information of railroad vehicle. For this purpose, we suggested the unique templates of railroad vehicle maintenance information. We also performed maintenance cost analysis on the some sub-system of railroad vehicle for the case study.
Cool roofs are currently being emerged as one of important mechanism to save energy in relation to the building. Although green roof has already gained nation-wide recognition as a typical method of energy saving in the roof, this approach did not provide a realistic evidence that is economically feasible in terms of installation cost. This research is primarily intended to compare installation cost between the two techniques. This research proposes a comparative evaluation framework in a more objective and quantitative way for an installation cost between the two techniques. Kyungpook National University (KNU) was selected as a survey objective and an exhaustive and realistic comparison of installation cost between the two techniques was conducted, based on Life Cycle Cost analysis (initial investment cost, maintenance cost, dismantling and waste disposal expense). It was possible to identify that installation cost of cool roofs is 4.7 times cheaper than that of green roof. Also present value based on probabilistic approach was identified as 0.25 (4.95) higher than the installation cost on the assumption of constant price and interest. It is expected that much more installation cost for the large scale green roof will be required since small-size green roof selected as a survey objective in this study could be operated under less initial installation and maintenance condition.
Life cycle cost analysis is compulsively required for the system operation. System operation costs are consisted of acquisition, operation, maintenance and so on. In the beginning of the system planning, we need to take into account of various costs following the system operating. To implement LCC, we need to analyze system life cycle to identify all costs during system life. The costs can be divided into three parts. The first part is purchasing cost, the second for operating cost and the last for disposal cost. The second operating cost can be decomposed of operating cost included labor, energy consumption cost for system running, maintenance costs to keep systems healthy, delay cost caused from maintenance and hazard cost, and so on. In this paper, we carried out for railway locomotives which operate over more 30years and which cost about 10 million USD. We decompose the life cycle of the locomotives and break down the locomotives into subsystems to require maintenance or not, and subsystems to need energy or not. We showed how to decide optimal locomotives through cost identification and system breakdown.

If the spent fuels or the high-level radioactive wastes can be disposed of in the depth of 3~5 km and more stable rock formation, it has several advantages. For example, (1)significant fluid flow through basement rock is prevented, in part, by low permeability, poorly connected transport pathways, and (2)overburden self-sealing. (3)Deep fluids also resist vertical movement because they are density stratified and reducing conditions will sharply limit solubility of most dose-critical radionuclides at the depth. Finally, (4) high ionic strengths of deep fluids will prevent colloidal transport. Therefore, as an alternative disposal concept to the deep geological disposal concept(DGD), very deep borehole disposal(DBD) technology is under consideration in number of countries in terms of its outstanding safety and cost effectiveness. In this paper, for the preliminary applicability analyses of the DBD system for the spent fuels or high level wastes, the DBD concepts which have been developed by some countries according to the rapid advance in the development of drilling technology were reviewed. To do this, the general concept of DBD system was checked and the study cases of foreign countries were described and analyzed. These results will be used as an input for the analyses of applicability for DBD in Korea.
Alum recovery has recently gained more attention because many water utilities need to improve their sludge handling and disposal practices. As part of an overall sludge management program recovery can reduce the amount of solids and allow for reuse of the recovered Alum as a coagulant. This study was examined the effectiveness of Alum recovery from the Sludge at the D water treatment plant in Kwangju city. The results were summarized as follows 1. Alum recovery was obtained sufficiently acidification(An optimum condition was pH2-3) With $H_{2}SO_{4}$ to settled sludge. In this case recovered liquid Alum from sludge of 2.1% solids concentration at pH 2.1 was contains Aluminum $1,602mg/{\ell}$(as $Al_{2}O_{3}$ 0.3% ) and other metal of low level. 2. It was an optimum condition to all reuse of recovered Alum as a coagulant that rate of Commercial Alum:Recovered Alum=$14{\mu}{\ell}/{\ell}{\;}:{\;}200{\mu}{\ell}/{\ell}$ In a result of Jar Tests. 3. It was a result of Alum recovery from sludge, the reduction effect of amount of solids was about 57.4%. 4. If all recovered Alum were reused the reduction effect of solid wastes disposal cost and chemical drug's cost was about 22%.
A penalized VIC method offers an efficient hybrid particle-mesh algorithm to simulate an incompressible viscous flow passing a solid body in an infinite domain. In this manner, the computational domain needs to be restricted to a relatively small region to reduce computational cost which would be very high in case of using a large domain. In this paper, we present how to dispose of far-field particles to avoid an unnecessarily large computational domain. The present approach constraints expansion of the domain and thus prevents the incremental computational cost. To validate the numerical approach, a flow around an impulsively started sphere was simulated for Reynolds numbers of 100 and 1000.
An effective management for reverse flows of products such as reuse, repair and disposal, has become an important issue for every aspect of business. In this paper, we study the Location-Routing Problem (LRP) in the multi-stage closed-loop supply chain network. The closed-loop supply chain in this study integrated both forward and reverse flows. In forward flow, a factory, Distribution Center (DC) and retailer are considered as usual. Additionally in reverse flow, we consider the Central Returns collection Center (CRC) and disposal facility. We propose a mixed integer programming model for the design of closed-loop supply chain integrating both forward and reverse flows. Since the LRP belongs to an NP-hard problem, we suggest a heuristic algorithm based on genetic algorithm. For some test problems, we found the optimal locations and routes by changing the numbers of retailers and facility candidates. Furthermore, we compare the efficiencies between open-loop and closed-loop supply chain networks. The results show that the closed-loop design is better than the open one in respect to the total routing distance and cost. This phenomenon enlarges the cut down effect on cost as an experimental space become larger.
Food waste left by patients in hospitals is an important indicator of the nutritional adequacy of the patients' diet and of their satisfaction with food. Food wasted by patients or staff in hospitals is one of the most serious problem in hospital foodservice systems. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the disposal practices of food waste in hospital foodservices for providing basic information for an efficient solid waste management. This approach was achieved using a variety of qualitative and quantitative information including general food waste practices and measurement of food waste left by patients and staff in 20 hospital foodservices. The average food wasted by patients and staff per day was 402.20kg and 206.98kg respectively, being total food waste of 578.08kg per day. The mean plate waste of a staff was 115.95g, which was much lower than that of a patient (221.03g). As means of food waste treatment, most hospitals(60%) are using animal feed, followed by means of collection by contracters(15%) and disposal of waste collection after condensing. An average monthly cost for disposing food waste was 915,000 won and average 138.58 minutes were spent to dispose food waste in hospital foodservices.
The main purposes of this study were to survey and assess the current situation surrounding solid waste generation in school foodservices, to identify and evaluate the measures(reduction and recycling programs) taken by the foodservices for waste disposal, and to suggest appropriate reform measures to improve the current status, especially in terms of environmental preservation. Questionnaires on solid waste management practices were mailed to 206 school foodservice dietitians in the Kyungbuk region : a 64.0%(N = 130) response rate was obtained. While there are food waste and packaging waste generated from the foodservice operations, about a third(34.1%) of the foodservice operations were responsible for the disposal of both the food wastes and packaging wastes. About 90% of school foodservice managers were responsible for managing solid wastes. The primary recycling methods of leftovers generated from the school food service operations were livestock feed(76.0%). About 60.0% of school foodservice managers conducted the food waste reduction program. The performance by the foodservice managers in reducing the food waste was not satisfactory in several fields, such as developing environmentally friendly menus or abiding by the standard recipe, etc. In addition, the government assistance system was not properly working in the food service management. In conclusion, we should focus on increasing the performance in reducing the food waste by the foodservice managers, strengthening and facilitating the government assistance system for the food waste management and to develop education methods and education materials for food waste management.
