Purpose: This study was to explore the perception about menstruation and discomforts of using disposable menstrual pads in menstruating women. Method: A survey was conducted of 132 menstrual women recruited by convenience sampling. Data were collected by a face-to-face interview and a study questionnaire, and analyzed by frequency and $X^2$-test. Result: More than half of the subjects expressed a negative perception about menstruation, while 25% expressed a mixed perception and 24.2% expressed a positive perception. Women who perceived their menstruation negatively had more menstrual pain than the others (p<.001). The most frequently experienced discomforts of using disposable pads were an unpleasant smell (18.9%), leakage (18.9%), and discomfort (16.6%). Adverse effects of using disposable pads were reported as an itching sense (23.1%). skin rash (20.2%), and skin irritation (10.6%). Alternate materials were reported with tampons, alternate washable pads, and maternity pads. Conclusion: The results indicate that disposable menstrual pads cause several discomforts and common adverse effects such as skin problems. To decrease these discomforts and relieve adverse effects, planned nursing education including women's personal hygiene methods and information about an alternate pad may be helpful.

월경은 모든 여성에게 불가피한 현상으로 이 기간에 이르는 불편의 경감은 여성의 풍요로운 삶을 위한 중요한 과제이다. 본 연구에서는 일회용과 다회용 패드 생리대의 소비자 사용평가를 통하여 생리대 사용에 따른 실질적인 문제점을 파악하고 소비자의 니즈에 맞게 개선하기 위한 기초 정보를 제공하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구결과, 월경에 대한 응답자의 증상은 긍정보다는 부정적인 측면이 우세하여 생리기간이 고통스러운 경험으로 인식되고 있었으며 일회용 생리대와 다회용 생리대의 디자인, 성능, 맞음새, 사용감, 관리에 대한 긍정적, 부정적 평가 내용에 차이가 있었다, 스왓분석을 통해 일회용 생리대는 사용 편리성이 강점인 반면, 착용감이 약점으로, 다회용 생리대는 착용감이 강점인 반면, 관리 불편이 약점으로 제기되었다. 이러한 결과를 반영한 감성 설계가 이루어진다면 소비자는 보다 쾌적한 생리 기간을 영위할 수 있으며 궁극적으로 생산업체에 수익을 가져오는 상승효과를 불러올 수 있으리라 기대한다.

This paper aims to examine the status of sizing specifications for disposable sanitary pads on the market and to offer information on product design that reflect the requests of consumer by gathering opinion through the practical experience of consumers. Seventy-six varieties of sanitary pads on market are measured and the evaluations of wearing comfort were investigated by the questionnaire and interview for sixty three varieties of sanitary pads. As a result, they were classified into five sizes related with length but vaguely related with thickness and width. Thickness is distinguished by the compressibility that is marked as slim or ultra slim by the same brand. However, there is no sizing consistency for all products. The result shows that there is some confusion for consumers to choose desired sizes, In addition, the perception of wearing is categorized into four factors that are product performance, size and fit, wearing feeling and margin of action, and adhesive property and wrapping. The manufacturing specifications for the sanitary pads on domestic market, the requests of consumers for sanitary pad design modifications, and proposals for follow-up studies were figured out through this research.

Sanitary pads are used with for the sanitization of menstruation bleeding. In this research, twenty medium size disposable sanitary pads were selected from domestic and international brands in order to analyze their shape and size. Additionally, 6 sanitary pads were selected among the 20, and user experience evaluations were completed. The analysis on the shape of the 20 sanitary pads showed that straight-shape pads existed more than curved-shape pads. The means of total pad length, wing length, wing width, front pad width, back pad width, front pad length, and back pad length were 24.5 cm, 8.8 cm, 3.0 cm, 10.0 cm, 10.2 cm, 11.6 cm, and 13.0 cm, respectively. All selected pads were medium size; however, detailed sizes varied between brands. Eighty-one women participated on user experience evaluation. Participants felt that brand F was the longest and brand D the shortest. The results matched with the results on actual pad length measurement. Participants evaluated the fit of brand E most positively and fit of brand A most negatively. The current study provides valuable information for developing disposable sanitary pads.

This study aims to contribute to development of sanitary pad meeting customers' requirements by examining types, sorts, sizes and specifications of cloth sanitary pads currently sold in the market, and the results are as follows. First, with respect to materials of inside cloth of cloth sanitary pads, in most cases, 100% cotton knit was used as materials of the inside cloth and the pads were finished with knit cotton(including organic cotton) and woven cotton bias. Second, for the structures of the cloth sanitary pads, the Jacquard knits in the shape of beehive or waffle are mostly used. Third, the sizes of cloth sanitary pads were classified with 7 sorts were discovered that can be divided into liner, small-size, medium-size, large-size, overnight, extra overnight, accounting for the most percentage among cloth sanitary pads. Fourth, 11 sorts among cloth sanitary pads whose front and back shapes are the same were discovered, accounting for the most percentage. Fifth, cloth sanitary pads can be largely classified into a wing type, all-in-one type and insertion type, which includes subsidiary absorption layer. 9 sorts were wing types and all-in-one types, accounting for the most and percentage. Compared with the scope of the market for women's articles, there is no relevant study, so this study is expected to provide basic materials for women's articles and contribute to development of environment-friendly products as an alternative to a disposable sanitary pad which not only causes environment pollution but also has bad effects on women's health.

Disposable nonwovens entered the medical field over four decades ago, beginning with basic paperlike face masks and proceeding through sterilization wrap, specialty drapes and gowns. These medical nonwovens have proven to be invaluable in products ranging from drape sheets to surgical gowns to adult pads and underpads by utilizing a gamut of nonwoven structures. The combining of nonwoven technologies has enabled the industry to offer products with properties hitherto though impossible.(omitted)

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the male products for urinary incontinence by examining the types and characteristics of those registered in KIPO (Korean Industrial Property Office). Additionally, the types and characteristics, especially for the cloth products and the pads, of male panties for urinary incontinence on the market are analyzed. Men in their 60s with minor symptoms were selected as the subjects to evaluate the wearability. The results are as follows. 11 male products for urinary incontinence, registered in KIPO, are structurally different from those for women by having a separate pocket mainly for absorption. There are one disposable type and 7 cloth types, and the cloth panties can be classified as either united or separable type depending on the detachability of pads from the panties. The types of the panties vary according to the position, shape, and size of the attached pads on normal male panties (boxer, briefs, drawers). The fabrics for the urinary incontinence are usually piled in 3 to 5 layers by having the most absorptive layer on the top, the next with deodorizing characteristics, and the bottom with the waterproof fabric as basics with some additional layers of antibiotic or breathable fabrics. From the wearability test, it has been determined that the panties are not distinguishable in external appearance and the fitness is also not a problem since the size varies as the normal panties. It has been evaluated that the fitness of the panties is an important factor since the pad should be worn in any form; the pad sewed in the middle of the panties was evaluated to be more wearable than having a long pad. In case of separable panties, when the pattern and fabric is similar to the functional panties and the options such as the thickness of the pads or detachability are given to the users, it tends to be more satisfactory.

본 연구는 지역사회 가임기 여성의 생리대 사용실태를 조사하기 위해 시행된 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구대상자는 지역사회의 만 19-40세의 가임기 여성 1,571명으로, 자료수집은 2020년 9월부터 2021년 8월까지 온라인 및 모바일 설문조사로 진행되었다. 연구결과 참여자의 88.9%(1,396명)가 일반 패드형 생리대를 사용하고 있었으며, 탐폰 5.6%(88명), 면 생리대 3.1%(49명), 생리 컵을 포함한 기타가 2.4%(38명) 순이었으며, 일반적 특성에 따른 사용하는 생리대 종류의 차이는 나이(p=.006), 결혼상태(p=.005), 교육정도(p=.002), 연 소득(p=.018), 임신경험(p=.036), 및 월경규칙성(p=.022)에 따라 모두 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 또한 참여자들의 절반 이상(53.8%)이 면 생리대는 '아주 안전' 혹은 '안전하다'고 응답하였으며, 일반 패드형 생리대와 탐폰은 각각 27.9%, 20.1%가 '안전하다'고 응답하였다. 생리대 종류에 따른 월경불편감의 차이는 탐폰 사용자가 일반 패드형 생리대나 면 생리대 사용자보다 '가장 최근 월경'의 월경불편감 점수(F=4.092, p=.017) 및 '월경 전 4일'의 월경불편감 점수에서 모두 높은 것으로 나타났다(F=4.178, p=.016). 따라서 가임기 여성의 생리대의 사용실태 및 생식건강과의 관련성에 대한 지속적인 조사와 관리가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

Urinary Incontinence is any leakage of urine against their will. It is not a life threatening illness but it causes negative effects both socially and psychologically. Based on many previous studies, 20-40% of adult female and 30% of men in their sixties have experienced symptoms of urinary incontinence. As the number of active aged people experiencing the symptoms increases, demand for specialized product is growing. The purpose of the study is to research the types and features of male disposable products for urinary incontinence on the market and to provide the basic data for improvement and development of better product. Products from 6 brands (Tena, Depend, Carnation, Keepers, Molimed, Abrimen) with high brand awareness both in online and offline were selected and analyzed. And product evaluation was carried out by male in their sixties with light symptom of urinary incontinence. The results are as follows. There are three types of male products for urinary incontinence: panties, diaper and pad. Among the 6 brands, the subject of analysis, only Depend from Yuhan Kimberly produces male panties while others make ones for unisex. There is no diaper product only for male, and Tena, Molimed, Abrimen have pad type products for male. Male panties from Depend emphasizes their design considering male's physical characteristics. Male pad is differentiated with female one by having different designs like triangular or pocket type which is more comforting to men. As a result of product evaluation, wearable panties similar to normal underwear were highly appreciated and satisfactory. Among various shapes of pads, 25cm long pad with wide width of front and narrow back was valued to be comfortable.

Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the risk factors of genital infection by examining the genital hygiene practice followed by adult women of reproductive age. The results can be applied as basic data for health education and health management on female genital hygiene practices. Methods: Data ware collected by conducting an online survey, comprising 200 adult women of reproductive age. Genital infections according to genital hygiene practice were analyzed by simple logistic regression. Results: In this study, the Odds Ratio (OR) of genital infection occurrence of genital hygiene practices used were disposable briefs 4.11 (CI 1.79-9.39, p=0.020), feminine deodorant spray 3.13 (CI 1.37-7.15, p=0.007), deodorant, vaginal inserts (tabs/supp) 10.60 (CI 3.97-28.28, p<0.001), over the counter anti-itch products 3.73 (CI 1.67-8.34, p=0.001), blotting 11.47 (CI 4.62-28.48, p<0.001), natural sea sponge 4.98 (CI 2.04-12.15, p<0.001), reusable cotton pads 5.76 (CI 2.48-13.33, p<0.001), tampons 2.60 (CI 1.17-5.77, p=0.019), tampons/pads between periods 4.79 (CI 2.07-11.10, p<0.001) and tampons/pads combination 4.11 (CI 1.79-9.39, p=0.001) Conclusion: Our results indicated the necessity to refrain from unnecessary application of genital hygiene practices, which is highly related to genital infections identified in this study. There is a need to continue education for proper performance.
