  • Generally, a camera isn't located at the center of display in a tele-presence system and it causes an incorrect eye contact between speakers which reduce the realistic feeling during the conversation. To solve this incorrect eye contact problem, we newly propose an intermediate view reconstruction algorithm using both a color camera and a depth camera and applying for the depth image based rendering (DIBR) algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, an efficient hole filling method using the arithmetic mean value of neighbor pixels and an efficient boundary noise removal method by expanding the edge region of depth image are included. We show that the generated eye-contacted image has good quality through experiments.

  • Today, a surgery for cataract of Korean society frequently come to operation. A method for treating cataracts have been developed in various ways. Widely used method is a method to use the artificial lens and replace it with the existing lens. The surgery can be inserted exactly according to the angle and points that are calculated in advance in the intraocular lens insertion is important. However, The lens insertion point can delete or blur the display due to such factors as foreign material coming out of the eye during surgery. Therefore, The lens insertion point needs a method of tracking the image processing by receiving the camera images in real time display method. In this paper, we propose a feature point tracking method by using template matching and buffer. a simulation results show that our ideas can track a feature point of the intraocular lens insertion.

  • Recently, the development of the head mounted display (HMD) device has attracted a great deal of attention to the actual contents. Especially, Augmented Reality (AR), which is a mixture of actual information and virtual world information, is focused on. AR HMD is able to interact by arranging virtual objects in real space through spatial recognition using depth camera. In order to naturally mix virtual space with real space, it is necessary to develop a technology for realizing spatial mapping information with high accuracy. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the optimal configuration of augmented reality application program by realizing accurate spatial mapping information when mapping a real space and an object placement environment using HoloLens. To do this, we changed the spatial mapping information in real space to three levels, which are the number of meshes used in cubic meters to scan step by step. After that, it was compared with the 3D model obtained by changing the actual space and mesh number. Experimental result shows that the higher the number of meshes used in cubic meters, the higher the accuracy between real space and spatial mapping. This paper is expected to be applied to augmented reality application programs that require scanning of highly mapped spatial mapping information.

  • Using a multi-array needle module developed for coating of high-density cylindrical microlens array (C-MLA), we have fabricated an anti-Moiré filter for LED screens. The Moiré phenomenon appears due to the interference between the array pattern of image sensors in a camera and the non-emission area (grid pattern) of a LED screen. To suppress it, we have employed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and coated it on a glass substrate in the form of a grid and non-grid (parallel lines). We have rotated the needle module in order to increase the number of C-MLAs. With this scheme, we have fabricated the 150 mm × 150 mm anti-Moiré filters where 836 microlens lines are formed. They show the average width of 255.4 ㎛, the average distance between CMLs of 94.6 ㎛, and C-MLA width non-uniformity of 4.7%. We have shown that the Moiré patterns still appear in the presence of the parallel (non-grid)-type filter, whereas they disappeared completely by the grid-type filter. It is due to the fact that the Moiré patterns are diffused more effectively by the grid-type C-MLA.

  • The conventional scan methods are based on a laser scanner and a depth camera, which requires high cost and complicated post-processing. Whereas in photometric scanning method, the 3D modeling data is acquired through multi-view images. This is advantageous compared to the other methods. The quality of a photometric 3D model depends on the environmental conditions or the object characteristics, but the quality is lower as compared to other methods. Therefore, various methods for improving the quality of photometric scanning are being studied. In this paper, we aim to investigate the effect of illumination conditions on the quality of photometric scanning data. To do this, 'Moai' statue is 3D printed with a size of $600(H){\times}1,000(V){\times}600(D)$. The printed object is photographed under the hard light and soft light environments. We obtained the modeling data by photometric scanning method and compared it with the ground truth of 'Moai'. The 'Point-to-Point' method used to analyseanalyze the modeling data using open source tool 'CloudCompare'. As a result of comparison, it is confirmed that the standard deviation value of the 3D model generated under the soft light is 0.090686 and the standard deviation value of the 3D model generated under the hard light is 0.039954. This proves that the higher quality 3D modeling data can be obtained in a hard light environment. The results of this paper are expected to be applied for the acquisition of high-quality data.

  • Due to the many advantages including low price, low power consumption, and miniaturization, the CMOS camera has been utilized in many applications, including mobile phones, the automotive industry, medical sciences and sensoring, robotic controls, and research in the security field. In particular, the 360 degree omni-directional camera when utilized in multi-camera applications has displayed issues of software nature, interface communication management, delays, and a complicated image display control. Other issues include energy management problems, and miniaturization of a multi-camera in the hardware field. Traditional CMOS camera systems are comprised of an embedded system that consists of a high-performance MCU enabling a camera to send and receive images and a multi-layer system similar to an individual control system that consists of the camera's high performance Micro Controller Unit. We proposed the SL-AVS (Small Size/Low power Around-View System) to be able to control a camera while collecting image data using a high speed synchronization technique on the foundation of a single layer low performance MCU. It is an initial model of the omni-directional camera that takes images from a 360 view drawing from several CMOS camera utilizing a 110 degree view. We then connected a single MCU with four low-power CMOS cameras and implemented controls that include synchronization, controlling, and transmit/receive functions of individual camera compared with the traditional system. The synchronization of the respective cameras were controlled and then memorized by handling each interrupt through the MCU. We were able to improve the efficiency of data transmission that minimizes re-synchronization amongst a target, the CMOS camera, and the MCU. Further, depending on the choice of users, respective or groups of images divided into 4 domains were then provided with a target. We finally analyzed and compared the performance of the developed camera system including the synchronization and time of data transfer and image data loss, etc.

  • Kinect sensor version 2 is a kind of camera released by Microsoft as a computer vision and a natural user interface for game consoles like Xbox one. It allows acquiring color images, depth images, audio input and skeletal data with a high frame rate. In this paper, using depth image, we present a surveillance system of a certain area within Kinect's field of view. With computer vision library(Emgu CV), if an object is detected in the target area, it is tracked and kinect camera takes RGB image to send it in database server. Therefore, a mobile application on android platform was developed in order to notify the user that Kinect has sensed strange motion in the target region and display the RGB image of the scene. User gets the notification in real-time to react in the best way in the case of valuable things in monitored area or other cases related to a reserved zone.
