  • We present the optical models and calculation results of thin-film organic solar cells (OSCs) at oblique incidence of light, using the transfer matrix method. The simple expression for the optical power dissipation is derived at oblique incidence for s- and p-polarized light. The spatial distribution of the electric field intensity, the optical power density, and the optical power dissipation are calculated in both s- and p-polarized light with respect to the incidence angle. We identify how the light absorption efficiency for p-polarized light becomes relatively larger than that for s-polarized light as the incidence angle increases.

  • The modeling for the cell gap process characteristic on the flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) process was investigated by response surface methodology (RSM). D-optimal design is carried out to build the design matrix. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) technique was used to analyze the significance level. The statistical analysis was used to verify the response surface model. The desirability function was used in the design-space optimization.

  • In recent years, the quixotic nature and concentration of rainfall due to global climate change has intensified. To monitor localized heavy rainfalls, a reliable disaster monitoring and warning system with advanced remote observation technology and high-precision display is important. In this paper, we propose a GIS-based intuitive and realistic 3D radar data display technique for accurate and detailed weather analysis. The proposed technique performs 3D object modeling of various radar variables along with ray profiles and then displays stereoscopic radar data on detailed geographical locations. Simulation outcomes show that 3D object modeling of weather radar data can be processed in real time and that changes at each moment of rainfall events can be observed three-dimensionally on GIS.

  • An integrated material removal model considering thermal, chemical and contact mechanical effects in CMP process is proposed. These effects are highly coupled together in the current modeling effort. The contact mechanics is employed in the model incorporated with the heat transfer and chemical reaction mechanisms. The mechanical abrasion actions happening due to the mechanical contacts between the wafer and abrasive particles in the slurry and between the wafer and pad asperities cause friction and consequently generate heats, which mainly acts as the heat source accelerating chemical reaction(s) between the wafer and slurry chemical(s). The proposed model may be a help in understanding multi-physical interactions in CMP process occurring among the wafer, pad and various consumables such as slurry.

  • The conventional scan methods are based on a laser scanner and a depth camera, which requires high cost and complicated post-processing. Whereas in photometric scanning method, the 3D modeling data is acquired through multi-view images. This is advantageous compared to the other methods. The quality of a photometric 3D model depends on the environmental conditions or the object characteristics, but the quality is lower as compared to other methods. Therefore, various methods for improving the quality of photometric scanning are being studied. In this paper, we aim to investigate the effect of illumination conditions on the quality of photometric scanning data. To do this, 'Moai' statue is 3D printed with a size of $600(H){\times}1,000(V){\times}600(D)$. The printed object is photographed under the hard light and soft light environments. We obtained the modeling data by photometric scanning method and compared it with the ground truth of 'Moai'. The 'Point-to-Point' method used to analyseanalyze the modeling data using open source tool 'CloudCompare'. As a result of comparison, it is confirmed that the standard deviation value of the 3D model generated under the soft light is 0.090686 and the standard deviation value of the 3D model generated under the hard light is 0.039954. This proves that the higher quality 3D modeling data can be obtained in a hard light environment. The results of this paper are expected to be applied for the acquisition of high-quality data.

  • We propose 'the haptic primitive' for haptic rendering without the need to solve complicated parametric equations. To develop 'the haptic primitive', we adopted "the God-Object Method" as a haptic rendering algorithm and applied 'Constructive Solid Geometry' to manage haptic objects. Besides being used in the 'ghost library' of $PHANToMTM^{TM}$ our method can be used as a basic component for developing tools and libraries that aim to simplify haptic modeling. It can also be applied to tactile display modules and temporal display modules. Ultimately it can be developed into a one-stop haptic modeling tool that enables the user to more conveniently create a tangible CAD systems or a tangible e-ommerce system.

  • This paper presents a dynamic modeling and a robust PID controller design process for the wire bonder head assembly. For modeling elements, the system is divided into electrical part, magnetic part, and mechanical part. Each part is modeled using the bond graph method. The PID controller is used for high speed/high accuracy position control of the wire bonder assembly. The Taguchi method is used to obtain the more robust PID gain combinations than conventional one. This study makes use of an L18 array with three parameters varied on three levels. Results of simulations and experimental show that the designed PID controller provides a improved ratio of signal to noise and a reduced sensitivity improved to the conventional PID controller.

  • As the demand on displays increases, new thin-film transistors such as metal oxide transistor are continuously being invented. When designing a circuit consisting of such new transistors, a new transistor model based on proper charge transport mechanisms is needed for each of them. In this paper, a modeling framework which enables to choose charge transport mechanisms that are limited to certain operation regions and assemble them into a transistor model instead of making an integrated transistor model dedicated to each transistor. The framework consists of a graphic user interface to choose charge transport models and a current calculation part, which is also implemented in AIM-SPICE for circuit simulation.

  • We have carried a theoretical study on e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display in which the liquid crystal is switched by the electric field of the charge, produced by an electron beam, on the surface of the display. We calculated the electric field produced by the surface charge, the liquid crystal director configuration and the profile of the transmitted light. We studied the factors affecting the resolution of the display. We also studied the effect of pretilt angle on the performance of the display. The e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display potentially has the advantages of high resolution and high brightness.
