  • There are several methods which estimate the behavior of the Structures. Recently, several displacement measuring instruments such a GPS are substantially developed. So, considering this technique, displacement measurement will be a very efficient method for estimating the behavior of the Structures and maintenance. Therefore we need to develop methods of structure maintenance & management by using displacement measuring instruments. In this study, I suggest to maintenance & management method by using displacements about simple beams and cantilever beams which are very important structure in civil engineering. The results show that the proposed method is capable of estimating the displacement and stress of the Beam Member by combining the proper number of measurement and optimum measurement points.

  • This paper describes the result of study on measurement of displacement of structure by means of non-contacting method, close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera. To apply close-range digital photogrammetry to displacement measurement of structure, correction of lens distortion that interferes geometrical analysis has been carried out and then measuring displacement was performed on load regulated-rahmen. For enhanced applicability of displacement measurement, MIDAS which is a structural analysis program was used for modeling and the result was taken from comparative analysis. As a result of the study, it is showed that close-range digital photogrammetry could supplement several weaknesses of LVDT and cable displacement meter and, especially, economy in the perspective of measuring time could be realized. Close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera can be applied to the area where requires visual analysis such as 3D modeling of structure, profile replication of measurement of structure as well as measurement of displacement of structure.

  • Accelerometer and laser vibrometers are widely used to measure vibration of structures like a building or piping. Recently, the research measuring vibration by using camera image is introduced. However, this method has a disadvantage. If camera moves by the vibration cannot measure the vibration displacement of structure. We proposed the enhanced technique for measuring vibration using camera. This paper took the experiment for correction of error due to camera shaking. We verified through an experiment. And the accuracy of the method measuring the vibration displacement by using the camera images was analyzed.

  • A multiplexed bend loss type single-mode fiber-optic sensor system was prepared to measure the displacement of several cm of the civil engineering structures such as many bridges, tunnels and various buildings. This bend loss type fiber-optic sensor used the signal difference between two reflection signals due to various bend losses generating at a pair of optical connectors by using OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) for measuring displacements. And the experiments were conducted for showing the measurement feasibility on the range of 10 cm, and the multiplexing experiments were also performed to measure the displacements of 5 measuring positions of an object by setting these 5 fiber-optic sensors on a single mode fiber simultaneously.

  • In this paper, a control and data analysis S/W of a dedicated measuring machine for cams is developed. A rotary encoder is employed to measure the angular displacement of the motor, and a linear scale does the linear displacement of the prove. The design and measuring data are interpolated by cubic spline curves respectively to compute the error which is defined by the maximum distance between two curves. Further, optimization module to find the exact error is also developed to remove the error occurred due initial measuring position. The developed system takes only 6 minutes to measure the cam and to analyze the measuring data while the CMM takes about 1 hours even with a skilled operator.

  • We present a new digital phase measuring method for heterodyne optical interferometry, which providers high measuring speed up to 6 m/s with a fine displacement resolution of 0.1 nanometer. The key idea is combining two distinctive digital phase measuring techniques with mutually complementary characteristics to earth other one is counting the Doppler shift frequency counting with 20 MHz beat frequency for high-velocity measurement and the other is the synchronous phase demodulation with 2.0 kHz beat frequency for extremely fine displacement resolution. The two techniques are operated in switching mode in accordance wish the object speed in a synchronized way. Experimental results prove that the proposed dual mode phase measuring scheme is realized with a set of relatively simple electronic circuits of beat frequency shifting, heterodyne phase detection. and low-pass filtering.

  • Measuring the movement of joint angle of human body is very important clinically. Human joint angle displacement can be used to evaluate the degree of disease and disability. Also, we can determine the rehabilitation process with angular information. Conventional methods for measuring angular displacement are many weakness. The purpose of this study is to overcome the limitations of existing equipments by using optical method. For this reason, optical sensor system was used to correlate detected light signal with joint angle. Experimental results of the applied joint model in this study showed that joint angular displacement can be measured by optical signals. The suggested method is simple, durable, small, lightweight, convenient, and cost effective.

  • A new measuring method for tool deflection has been developed when sculptured surface is processed in ball-end milling. Since the vibration due to cutting forces has low frequencies, an electromagnetic sensor is used for measuring the exact vibration displacement. The amplitude and direction of vibration displacement during the cutting process is presented as orbital plot. In this study, it assumes that the vibration displacement is proportional to the length of cutting chip. Therefore, tool deflection is calculated by summing up the vibration displacement of unit chip length for engaged chip length. In addition, computer programs has been developed to predict the deflection of tools when machining sculptured surface. This developed program predicts the tool deflection per block of NC data, so that it can easily identify the parts which have the possibility of machining errors.

  • In this paper, the theoretical method of measuring the tunnel convergence and underground displacement, the objective indices of assessing safety for tunnel construction, using the fiber optic sensor is studied by developing the program to automatically measure them. The model test of Con'c beam is conducted to evaluate reliability of the fiber optic sensor. Furthermore, using the RS232 communication protocol as well as Visual C# and Visual C++, the programming tools, the program was developed to detect automatically the measured value of the fiber optic sensor, calculate the tunnel convergence and underground displacement, predict the deformed shape of the tunnel, and evaluate loosening zone due to the tunnel excavation.

  • This paper aims to propose an image processing technique for measuring the static displacement of bridges from general inspection photograph; the color, shape, and spatial transformations of an arbitrary image stored in bridge management system database are used. This study is verified by using numerical analyses with experiments; the results demonstrate that the static displacement of bridges are measured by proposed technique. Moreover, this technique is able to obtain the static structural response of the bridge with changes in temperatures.
