SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY ANALYSIS OF FUEL/MATRIX INTERACTION LAYERS IN HIGHLY-IRRADIATED U-Mo DISPERSION FUEL PLATES WITH Al AND Al-Si ALLOY MATRICES

  • In order to investigate how the microstructure of fuel/matrix-interaction (FMI) layers change during irradiation, different U-7Mo dispersion fuel plates have been irradiated to high fission density and then characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Specifially, samples from irradiated U-7Mo dispersion fuel elements with pure Al, Al-2Si and AA4043 (~4.5 wt.%Si) matrices were SEM characterized using polished samples and samples that were prepared with a focused ion beam (FIB). Features not observable for the polished samples could be captured in SEM images taken of the FIB samples. For the Al matrix sample, a relatively large FMI layer develops, with enrichment of Xe at the FMI layer/Al matrix interface and evidence of debonding. Overall, a significant penetration of Si from the FMI layer into the U-7Mo fuel was observed for samples with Si in the Al matrix, which resulted in a change of the size (larger) and shape (round) of the fission gas bubbles. Additionally, solid fission product phases were observed to nucleate and grow within these bubbles. These changes in the localized regions of the microstructure of the U-7Mo may contribute to changes observed in the macroscopic swelling of fuel plates with Al-Si matrices.

유기클레이의 선택적 분산에 의한 폴리프로필렌/아이오노머/클레이 나노복합체의 유변학 및 형태학적 특성 연구 (Rheology and Morphology of PP/ionomer/clay Nancomposites Depending on Selective Dispersion of Organoclays)

  • 본 연구에서는 폴리프로필렌/아이오노머/클레이 삼상 복합체에서 클레이의 분산 및 위치에 따른 복합체의 구조변화와 물성을 연구하였다. 폴리프로필렌 90 wt%, 아이오노머 10 wt%의 블렌드에 클레이를 0~10 wt% 첨가하면서 물성변화를 관찰하였다. 클레이 함량 3%이하의 복합체에서 클레이는 아이오노머 상의 내부에 존재하는 반면, 클레이 함량이 증가하면서 분산상에 클레이가 채워져 견고한 구조가 형성되며 추가적인 클레이는 계면에 존재하게 된다. 이에 따라 계면에서의 상호작용은 폴리프로필렌과 아이오노머로부터 폴리프로필렌-클레이와 아이오노머-클레이의 상호작용으로 변화하며 이에 따라 미세구조 및 유변물성이 변화한다. 복합체의 저장 모듈러스(G')는 클레이가 분산상의 내부에 존재할 때는 거의 영향을 받지 않지만 클레이가 계면에 위치하면서부터 크게 증가한다. 또한 파단면의 모폴로지 역시 클레이가 복합체의 내부에만 존재할 경우에는 분산상의 상 경계가 뚜렷하게 관찰되고 분산상의 크기가 증가하지만, 클레이가 계면에 위치할 때는 분산상의 크기가 줄어들고 파단면의 모폴로지 역시 상의 경계가 뚜렷하게 관찰되지 않는 상용화된 모폴로지를 보인다. 우리는 복합체의 유변물성의 변화를 통하여 분산상 내부구조의 변화에 따른 클레이의 위치변화와 계면에서의 상호작용의 변화를 정량화 하였다. 또한 고체상태에서의 계면 접착량 측정을 통하여 계면에서의 상호작용의 증가함에 따라 접착력이 증가하고, 미세구조상 클레이 입자가 계면에 존재할 때 결정화도가 낮아짐을 확인하였다.

벽면충돌 가솔린 분무 모델 (Modeling of a Gasoline Spray Impinging on a Wall)

  • Most gasoline engines employ a port injection system to achieve the better fuel-air mixing. A part of injected fuels adheres to the wall or intake valve and forms a film of liquid fuel. The other is secondarily atomized by the spray-wall interaction. A better understanding of this interaction will help in designing injection systems and controlling the strategies to improve engine performance and exhaust emissions. In the present research, the spray-wall interaction was investigated by a laser sheet visualization method. The shape of sprays was pictured at various impinging velocities and angles. The fuel dispersion was estimated by fluorescence light, and the atomization was evaluated by the enlarged images of droplets. The experimental results were compared with model predictions which are based on OPT method. The model has been modified to have the better agreement with the experimental result, and was implemented in the KIVA-II code.

Finite Element Modeling of Wall Thinning Defects: Applications to Lamb Wave Generation and Interaction

  • The generation of axisymmetric Lamb waves and interaction with wall thinning (corrosion) defects in hollow cylinders are simulated using the finite element method. Guided wave interaction with defects in cylinders is challenged by the multi-mode dispersion and the mode conversion. In this paper, two longitudinal, axisymmetric modes are generated using the concept of a time-delay periodic ring arrays (TDPRA), which makes use of the constructive/destructive interference concept to achieve the unidirectional emission and reception of guided waves. The axisymmetric scattering by the wall thinning extending in full circumference of a cylinder is studied with a two-dimensional FE simulation. The effect of wall thinning depth, axial extension, and the edge shape on the reflections of guided waves is discussed.

  • This study is about the effect from properties of coated paper and ink dispersion to the printed mottle. Ink receptivity would be expected that it is mainly effected by roughness of coated paper Because the transfer of ink can not be uniform with rough surface, it will cause the optical appearance such like printed mottle. And also it may be able to cause the printed mottle from uneven transfer of ink due to absorption property of based paper, depend on size degree, by using dampening in Off-set printing. Each different specific of surface and ink dispersion could cause printed mottle. Therefore this study was carried out by using densitometer and image analysis to show the interaction between properties of domestic coated paper and ink dispersion.

인삼(人蔘) Saponin이 혈장(血漿) Lipoproteins 및 Lecithin Dispersion과 Dextran Sulfate의 상호작용(相互作用)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Studies on the Effect of Panax ginseng on the Interactions of Human Plasma Lipoproteins and Lecithin Dispersions with Dextran Sulfate)

  • The effect of saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root on the interactions of human plasma lipoproteins and lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate were studied in order to examine the effect of Panax ginseng on the lipid accumulation in the aorta. The total saponin fraction and protopanaxadiol glycosides of Panax ginseng root seemed to slightly enhance the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the absence of divalent metal ions. Protopanaxatriol glycosides remarkably inhibited the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate. However, all of these three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng root showed the tendency of inhibition to the interaction of high density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions by the order of protopanxatriol glycosides, protopanaxadiol glycosides and total saponin. Three saponin fractions of Panax ginseng exerted almost same tendency to the interaction of lecithin dispersions with dextran sulfate in the presence of divalent metal ions as the interaction of low density lipoproteins with dextran sulfate absence of divalent metal ions.

Preparation and Characterization of Solid Dispersion of Ipriflavone with Polyvinylpyrrolidone

  • Solid dispersions of ipriflavone with PVP were prepared by a spray-drying method in order to improve the bioavailability. They were measured with scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, x-ray powder diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to evaluate the physicochemical interaction between ipriflavone and PVP and study the correlation between these physicochemical characteristics and bioavailability. Ipriflavone exhibited crystallinity, whereas PVP was almost amorphous. The area of the endotherm $({\Delta}H)$ of freezer milled ipriflavone, freezer milled ipriflavone physically mixed with freezer milled PVP, and physically mixed ipriflavone with PVP was almost the same, whereas ${\Delta}H$ of the solid dispersed ipriflavone with PVP was much smaller than that of the other preparation types. Also, the crystallinity and the crystal size of ipriflavone in the solid dispersed ipriflavone with PVP were much smaller than those of the other preparation types. From the in vivo test, the AUC of the solid dispersed ipriflavone with PVP was approximately 10 times higher than that of the physically mixed ipriflavone with PVP. The solid dispersion using the spray-drying method with a water-soluble polymer, PVP, may be effective for the improvement of the bioavailability.

  • Alcohols, hydrocarbons, ketones 그리고 ethers와 같은 다양한 유기용매에서 질화규소 및 소결첨가제로 사용되는 AlN, Nd2O3 입자의 분산특성을 연구하였다. 분산안정화기구 및 유기공정첨가제와의 상호작용에 관한 연구를 수행하여 비수계 시스템에서 세라믹 입자의 분산성을 규명하였다. 현탁액의 물성특성은 산술된 Hamaker 상수 뿐 아니라 electrokinetic sonic amplitude 측정 및 유동학적 결과로부터 얻어진 흐름곡선을 이용하여 평가하였다. 유기용매 내에서 Si3N4, AlN 그리고 Nd2O3 분산안정화에 기여하는 정전기적 척력은 예상보다 컸으며, 이것은 유기용매의 물리화학적 특성에 의존함을 알 수 있었다.

Generalized Analysis on the Combined Effect of SPM and Fiber Chromatic Dispersion on Subcarrier Multiplexed Optical Transmission Systems for RoF Applications

  • We investigate theoretically the combined effect of fiber chromatic dispersion and self-phase modulation (SPM) on multi-channel subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) optical transmission systems in terms of the detected RF carrier power and SPM-induced power gain after transmission over single-mode fiber (SMF) links. According to the calculated power gain due to the SPM effect at the transmission distance of P3dB using the detected radio-frequency (RF) carrier power after photo-detection, the power gain is significantly degraded with large optical modulation index (OMI), small SCM channel spacing, and large fiber launching power because of the increased interaction between subcarrier channels. The nonlinear phase shift due to linear and nonlinear fiber characteristics is investigated to explain these results in detail. The numerical simulation results show that the OMI per SCM channel has to be smaller than 10 % for the fiber launching power of 10 dBm to guarantee prevention of SPM-induced power gain degradation below 0.5 dB for the SCM system with the channel spacing of 100 MHz. This result is expected to be utilized for the optical transmission systems using the SCM technology in future radio-over-fiber (RoF) networks.

폴리 아세틸렌의 비선형 광학성질에 대한 양자 역학적 고찰 (Non-Linear Optical Properties of Polyacetylene Using Ab Initio Time-Dependent Hartree-Fock Theory)

  • Linear polyenes, ($C_4H_6\;to\;C_{30}H_{32}$)의 frequency dependent longitudinal polarizablilty, ${\alpha}zz(\omega)$ 와 second hyperpolarizabilities, ${\gamma}zzzz(\omega)$를 6-31G basis set에서 ab initio TDHF 이론을 사용하여 계산하였다. 폴리 아세틸렌의 frequency dispersion effect를 보기 위하여 외부 전기장의 주파수 영역에 광학성질을 구한후 무한 사슬을 갖는 고분자에 대하여 extrapolate하였다. 이때걸어준 외부 전기장에서의 광학적 성질에 대한 static field 에서의 광학성질의 비를 사용하여 비공면 영역에서의 dispersion effect를 고찰하였다. 또한 광학성질에 대한 주변 사슬의 효과를 조사하였으며 공명이 일어나는 영역에서의 광학 성질을 계산하기 위한 이론적 방법을 제안하였다.
