Numerical prediction of the pollutant dispersion over a two-dimensional hilly terrain is presented. The dispersion model used in the present work is based on the gradient diffusion theory and the finite-volume method on a non-orthogonal boundary-fitted grid system. The numerical model is validated by comparing the results with the available experimental data for the flat-floor dispersion within a turbulent boundary-layer. The numerical error analysis is performed based on the guideline of Kasibhatla et al.(1988) for the elevated-source dispersion in the flat-floor boundary layer having a power-law velocity and linear eddy-diffusivity profile. The influences of the two-dimensional hilly terrain on the dispersion from a continuously released source are numerically investigated by changing the emission locations and heights. It is found that the distributions of ground-level concentration are strongly influenced by the source location and the emission height. Hence, the terrain amplification factor is greatly enhanced when the pollutant source is located within a flow separation region. Dispersion from a source of short duration is also simulated and the duration time of the pollutant is compared at several downstream locations on a hilly terrain. The results of the numerical prediction are applied to the evaluation of environmental impacts due to the automobile exhausts at the seashore highway with a parallel mountain range.
To give a positive effect on dispersion behavior of high performance fibers $Vectran^{(R)}$ in water with reference to wet-laid nonwoven technology, 9 kinds of sulfonate type anionic surfactants were chosen to study. After dispersion experiment, the number and the area occupied by fibers in each sample were counted and figured to calculate the index of dispersion in conjunction with quadrat analysis. Similar tendency was observed in the results of two experiments. The sample without addition of any surfactant resulted in the most aggregated dispersion behavior. As the length of alkyl group attached to sulfonate increases, the sample shows more dispersed behavior. The sample with the surfactant having the aryl group and the longer alkyl group shows the most dispersed behavior and it can be seen with the naked eye as well.

To predict the oil spill dispersion phenomena in the ocean, the oil spill response model, which can be used for strategic purpose on the oil spill site, based on Lagrangian particle-tracking method was formulated and applied to the neighboring area with Pusan port where the oil spill incident occurred when the tanker ship No.1 Youil struck on a small rock near the Namhyungjeto on September 21, 1995. The real-time tidal currents to be required as input data of the oil spill model were obtained by the two-dimensional hydrodynamic model and the tide prediction model. Evaluation of tidal currents using observation data was successful. For wind data, other input data of oil spill model, observed data on the spot were used. To verify the oil spill model, the oil spill modelling results were compared with the field data obtained from the spill site. Compared the modelling results with the observation data, there exist some discrepancies but the general pattern of modelling results was similar to that of field observation. The modelling results on 7 days after spill occurred showed that the 40% of spilled oil is in floating, 36% in evaporated, 23% at shore, and 1% in out of boundary, respectively. According to the evaluation of weighting curves of effective components to the dispersion of oil, the winds make a 37% of contribution to the dispersion of oil, turbulent diffusion 39.5%, and tidal currents 23.5%, respectively. Provided the more accurate wind data are supported, more favorable results might be obtained.

This study explored the health hazard of those exposed to methylene chloride by assessing its atmospheric concentration when a tear gas mixture was aerially dispersed. The concentration of methylene chloride ranged from 311.1-980.3 ppm (geometric mean, 555.8 ppm), 30 seconds after the dispersion started. However, the concentration fell rapidly to below 10 ppm after dispersion was completed. The concentration during the dispersion did not surpass the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health 'immediately dangerous to life or health' value of 2,300 ppm, but did exceed the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists excursion limit of 250 ppm. Since methylene chloride is highly volatile (vapor pressure, 349 mmHg at $20^{\circ}C$), the post-dispersion atmospheric concentration can rise instantaneously. Moreover, the o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile formulation of tear gas (CS gas) is an acute upper respiratory tract irritant. Therefore, tear gas mixtures should be handled with delicate care.
This paper aims to manufacture nonwoven fabrics by wet-laid technology using Vectran$^{(R)}$ one of the highly favoured high-performace fiber. In previous study, a novel evaluation on fiber dispersion was studied to select optimum surfactant by the need for the control of fiber dispersion in water with reference to wet-laid nonwoven technology. 3 Types of sulfonate anionic surfactants were chosen and added in a stage of agitation to improve dispersion behavior of fibers in water. It was observed that the state of fiber dispersion in water affected various properties of nonwovens, including appearance, physical properties, and mechanical properties. Nonwoven added SDBS was uniform in web structure, thickness and weight. Its average pore was small in size and consisted of fine pores and the value of porosity was high. Further, the difference of tensile value between 2 directions was the least. Consequentially, as the dispersion behavior of fiber increases, nonwoven shows more balanced and uniform physical properties in all directions.
Because the interaction layers that form between U-Mo particles and the Al matrix degrade the thermal properties of U-Mo/Al dispersion fuel, an investigation was undertaken of the undesirable feedback effect between an interaction layer growth and a centerline temperature increase for dispersion fuel. The radial temperature distribution due to interaction layer growth during irradiation was calculated iteratively in relation to changes in the volume fractions, the thermal conductivities of the constituents, and the oxide thickness with the burnup. The interaction layer growth, which is estimated on the basis of the temperature calculations, showed a reasonable agreement with the post-irradiation examination results of the U-Mo/Al dispersion fuel rods irradiated at the HANARO reactor. The U-Mo particle size was found to be a dominant factor that determined the fuel temperature during irradiation. Dispersion fuel with larger U-Mo particles revealed lower levels of both the interaction layer formation and the fuel temperature increase. The results confirm that the use of large U-Mo particles appears to be an effective way of mitigating the thermal degradation of U-Mo/Al dispersion fuel.

Reinforced concrete structures under sever conditions such as marine structures, bridges and structural constructed with aggregated(dredged front sea). can be deteriorated from corrosion of the reinforcing bars. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the corrosion reflectance of coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry. Polymer dispersion and polymer cement slurry with various polymer types were coated to the surface of bars and steel plate, and tested for accelerated corrosion tests. Tests include adhesion in tension, bending test, chloride ion spray, penetration of NaCl 10% solution and carbonation. From the test results, the corrosive resistance of steel is considerably improved by using polymer dispersion and polymer cement flurry at surface of steel. The difference of the corrosive resistance is hardly recognized according to types of polymer dispersion. The coated steel using polymer dispersion and polymer foment slurry will be improved to a great extent compared to those of plain steel when increasing content of chloride ion in cement concrete.
To increase the solubility of sibutramine freebase, the solid dispersion was prepared using a fluid-bed granulator. The solid dispersion containing sibutramine freebase was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). After filling the sibutramine solid dispersion in the gelatin hard capsule, we performed in vitro dissolution test, the stability test under accelerated conditions and pharmacokinetic study in beagle dogs. The DSC and XRD data showed that sibutramine solid dispersion would be amorphous state. The dissolution rate of sibutramine solid dispersion was significantly increased about 70% than sibutramine freebase. The stability of sibutramine solid dispersion capsules was equivalent or above to commercial product of sibutramine. In beagle dogs, the sibutramine solid dispersion showed equivalent pharmacokinetic behavior with commercial product of sibutramine hydrochloride. In conclusion, the solid dispersion system provided a possible way to overcome the low solubility of sibutramine freebase, and the sibutramine solid dispersion can be a bioequivalent with the commercial product in humans.
