Further results on the development of a novel VTOL aircraft, the Anuloid. Part II: Flight mechanics

  • This paper presents the main outcomes of the preliminary development of the Anuloid, an innovative disk-shaped VTOL aircraft. The Anuloid has three main features: lift is provided by a ducted fan powered by a turboshaft; control capabilities and anti-torque are due to a system of fixed and movable surfaces that are placed in the circular internal duct and the bottom portion of the aircraft; the Coanda effect is exploited to enable the control capabilities of such surfaces. In this paper, results from flight mechanics are presented. The vertical flight dynamics were found to be desirable. In contrast, the horizontal flight dynamics of the aircraft shows both dynamic instability, and more importantly, insufficient pitch and roll control authority. Some recommendations and guidelines are then given aimed at the alleviation of such problems.

In this paper, results from CFD analyses and wind tunnel tests are presented. Horizontal and vertical flights were considered, including accelerated flight. Particular attention was paid to the experimental analysis of the Coanda effect via a reduced scale 3D printed model. The results suggest that the Coanda effect is continuously present at the lower surface of the Anuloid and may be exploited for the control of the aircraft. Also, very complex 3D flows may develop around the aircraft.

국내 젖소의 유방 특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the udder characteristics of Korean Holstein cows)

  • This study was conducted to analyze the relationship between the occurrence of mastitis and the conformation of udders, teats, and teat tips of Holstein cows raised in Korea. Udders, teats, and teat tips were categorized by their conformation and the teat length, teat diameter and the distance from the tip of teat to the ground of 259 cows were measured. The most common shapes of udder, teats and teat tip were milking machine udder (27.4%), U-shaped teats (53.9%) and disk teat tip (53.8%), respectively. Mean teat length and diameters were 4.78 cm and 3.11 cm, respectively. The length and the diameter of front teats were significantly longer and wider than those of rear teats. However, the distance of the tip of teats to the ground was similar between front teats $(50.5{\pm}7.51cm)$ and rear teats $(50.7{\pm}8.83cm)$. The average daily milk yield was 26.4 kg/day, and the highest milk yield was observed from cows with large udder shape and above 4th lactation.

A pre-stack migration method for damage identification in composite structures

  • In this paper a damage imaging technique using pre-stack migration is developed using Lamb (guided) wave propagation in composite structures for imaging multi damages by both numerical simulations and experimental studies. In particular, the paper focuses on the experimental study using a finite number of sensors for future practical applications. A composite laminate with a surface-mounted linear piezoelectric ceramic (PZT) disk array is illustrated as an example. Two types of damages, one straight-crack damage and two simulated circular-shaped delamination damage, have been studied. First, Mindlin plate theory is used to model Lamb waves propagating in laminates. The group velocities of flexural waves in the composite laminate are also derived from dispersion relations and validated by experiments. Then the pre-stack migration technique is performed by using a two-dimensional explicit finite difference algorithm to back-propagate the scattered energy to the damages and damages are imaged together with the excitation-time imaging conditions. Stacking these images together deduces the resulting image of damages. Both simulations and experimental results show that the pre-stack migration method is a promising method for damage identification in composite structures.

Inhibitory Components from Glycosmis stenocarpa on Pepper Mild Mottle Virus

  • The goal of this study was to identify a source of natural plant compounds with inhibitory activity against pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV). We showed, using a half-leaf assay, that murrayafoline-A (1) and isomahanine (2) isolated from the aerial parts of Glycosmis stenocarpa have inhibitory activity against PMMoV through curative, inactivation, and protection effects. Using a leaf-disk assay, we confirmed that 2 inhibited virus replication in Nicotiana benthamiana. Using electron microscopy, we found that a mixture of the virus with 2 resulted in damage to the rod-shaped virus.

Friction and Wear of Nitrogen Incorporated Diamond-like Carbon Films Under a Vacuum

  • Tribological behaviors of nitrogen incorporated amorphous diamond-like carbon films were experimentally measured under a vacuum ($3 \times 10^{-5}$ Torr) using a ball (AISI 52100 steel)-on-disk wear-rig. Nitrogen incorporated DLC films were deposited by r.f. plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition method. Mixtures of benzene and ammonia or nitrogen gases were used as the reaction gases for the r.f. PACVD, and Si (100) wafer was used as the substrate. In the tribo-test, effects of DLC film thickness and normal load in friction were measured and discussed. Results showed that friction of nitrogen incorporated DLC films from a mixture gas of benzene and ammonia was lower than that of 100% benzene, specially in the measurement of minimum coefficient of friction. Differences in frictional characteristics of nitrogen incorporated DLC films were explained with the changes in chemical structures of the films. Result also showed that friction of DLC films increased with the sliding contact cycle, which remarkably accompanied with roll-shaped wear debris. Mechanisms and roles of the polymer-like wear debris were presented and discussed.

Horn의 음향 모델링 연구 - 음향 혼의 해석 및 설계 - (A Study on the Acoustic Modeling of Horn - Analysis and Design of Acoustic Horn -)

  • In this paper, horn loudspeaker modeling was suggested, investigated and verified through comparison of test results and simulation ones based on input electrical impedance curves and acoustic sensitivity ones. First, Thiele Small parameters of horn driver were identified by using pseudo loudspeaker model concept and verified in case of both closed and open horndriver. Second, cone-shaped horn models were investigated and compared with input acoustic impedance curves for real horn(cone angle $6.6^{\circ}$) and short horn(cone angle $27.9^{\circ}$). It showed that Leach model for cone horn was well described to test results, which were electrical impedance and acoustic sensitivity, compared to Lemaitre one. To represent horn system model good approximation in wide frequency range, mass correction filter and lowpass filter were adopted and consequently showed good fitted to test results.

CAD/CAM 세라믹의 두께가 색조에 미치는 영향 (Effect of CAD/CAM ceramic thickness on shade)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of CAD/CAM ceramic thickness on shade. Methods: 24 disk-shaped ceramic specimens (E.Max CAD & Empress CAD, $12mm{\times}12mm$) were prepared and divided into 4 groups (n=6). Ceramic specimens in 2 thicknesses (0.8 mm, 1.0 mm) were made low translucency(LT) shade A2. All specimens were measured as L*, a*, b* using spectrophotometer. The color differences(${\Delta}E$ values) between the specimen and a control target block ($12{\times}12{\times}1.2mm$) were calculated. Two-way ANOVA performed between 2 groups(material and thickness). Results: As the thickness increased, the $L^*$ (for all groups) and $b^*$ value (for all groups) increased and the $a^*$ value(for LR group) decreased. The mean color differences caused by thickness was acceptible (${\Delta}E$ > 2) for group LD1. But the mean color differences by thickness were not selected (${\Delta}E$ < 2) for group LD2, LR1, LR2. Conclusions: The different thickness can influence the final color of CAD/CAM ceramic.

  • 북극항로(NSR)를 통항하는 상선과 화물량이 매년 중가추세에 있다. 쇄빙선의 도움을 받아 북극항로를 통항하는 상선의 안전한 항해를 위협하는 가장 큰 요인은 얼음과의 충돌이다. 따라서 선박과 얼음의 충돌 메커니즘을 규명하기 위한 노력이 관련 연구자들에 의해서 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 북극항로를 운항하는 내빙선과 유빙의 충돌을 가정한 예인수조실험을 실시하며, 충돌 후 얼음의 운동(속력, 궤적)을 머신비전검사를 통해서 계측한다. 아울러 오차계산을 통해서 머신비전검사 기법의 정밀도를 검증한다.

회전, 각, 그리고 공간 다중화 방법을 결합 사용하는 홀로그래픽 디스크 메모리에서의 면적저장밀도 (Area storage density in holographic disk memories using rotational, angular, and spatial multiplexing methods in combination)

  • 디스크 형태의 저장 매체에 다중 홀로그램을 기혹함에 있어서, 우리는 저장밀도를 향상시키기 위해 회전, 각, 그리고 공간 다중화를 복합적으로 구현할 수 있는 간단하고 비용면에서 효율적인 방법을 연구한 바 있다. 회전다중과 각다중은 두 개의 쐐기 프리즘을 이용하여 기준빔을 직접 제어함으로써 얻고, 공간다중은 기록매질을 이동시킴으로써 얻었다. 본 논문에서는 저장밀도가 신호빔과 기준빔 경로상에 있는 렌즈들을 F/#(f number)와 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 그 저장밀도가 신호빔 경로상에 있는 렌즈의 F/#가 기준빔 경로에 있는 렌즈의 F/#의 약 두 배가 될 때 최대로 얻어짐을 보였다.
