브레이크 디스크 커버의 제동 열손상에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Braking Thermal Damage of Brake Disk Cover)

  • 디스크 커버는 브레이크 디스크 및 캘리퍼를 보호하기 위해 설치하고, 고객에게 인도되기 직전에 제거된다. 본 연구에서 디스크 커버의 온도는 주행 시험 차량(2000cc, 디젤)을 대상으로 측정되었다. 주행 시험(120km/h-제동(0.3G)-정지-120km/h-제동(0.5G)-정지)에서 측정된 최고 온도는 디스크 커버 상부에서 $260{\sim}270^{\circ}C$이었고, 디스크 커버 주위에 상당한 변화를 보였다. 이는 고온 디스크로부터 커버로의 주요 열전달이 대류를 통해서임을 커버 주위의 온도 분포로부터 추론 할 수 있다. 즉, 마찰 제동에 의해 발생된 고온의 공기가 디스크 커버 상부까지 올라간 것이다. 그리고 주행 시험 중에 디스크 커버의 상부 영역만이 용융되었다. 디스크 커버의 두께를 0.7mm부터 1.0mm로 증가시키고, 마스킹 테이프 1장을 디스크 커버 상부 영역에 부착하였다. 그 후에 디스크 커버는 주행 시험 시 마찰 제동에 의해 형성된 고온의 공기에도 변형되지 않았다.

  • Technological advance in information technology has sparked the necessity of small form factor (SFF) optical disk for mobile devices. Small form factor optical disk is highly anticipated to be a next generation storage device because it can be used for a cost-effective way compared with solid state memory. For the application to the 5 mm height small-form-factor optical disk drive, we have presented an optical flying head and swing arm actuator. In this study, we propose a small 1-axis actuator for compensating ficus error and SA due to the variation of cover-layer thickness in the cover-layered small optical disk. The main design issues of the 1-axis actuator are the realization of compact structure and the new support structure of the actuator: Finally, the compensating principle and performance of the 1-axis actuator will be explained.

  • A practical implementation method of squeeze-film aeroelastic disk vibration damping and its practical design performance are presented to provide a solution method to meet the tight TMR(Track Mis-Registration) design budget of high-TPI HDDs. Most previous research results are mainly based on the component-level study in the 'open-cover state' which is far from the realistic operation HDD condition. In this study, the squeeze-film disk damping effect is widely investigated under the realistic drive-level condition of 'enclosed-cover state.' It is found that the proper aeroelastic gap(s) between disk(s) and adjacent surface(s) to give significant vibration reduction in the enclosed HDD operating conditions can be achieved not only by classical well-known squeeze-film damping gaps such as very small 0.0x-millimeter level gaps which are not practically implementable in mass-production HDDs, but also by a few 0.x millimeter which is possible for designing realistic HDD design. The various experimental results including drive-level PES are also presented to prove feasibility of the optimal disk damper design for 93kTPI HDDs.

  • In this paper, we study a dynamic characteristics of HDD. HDD is constructed by spindle motor/disk unit, cover, base, E-block arm/suspension unit, and rotary actuator/voice coil motor. First, we make a FE model of spindle motor/disk unit and analyzed natural frequency/mode analytically and experimentally. Especially, the change of natural frequecy of spindle motor unit according to change of B.C is considered. Second, FE model of cover, base is made. Third, we assemble the above three FE mode, we get HEE assembly and dynamic analysis of HDD assembly is accomplished.

  • As the rotational speed and the track density are increased, the vibration of disk/spindle system becomes critical issue. In this work, we propose a simple inclined air bearing(20mm${\times}$20mm) system which is positioned very near to the rotating disk especially compact disc(CD) as a flexible disk, and we investigate suppressing effect about disk mode (0,0) both experimentally and numerically. We find dynamic stiffness and damping coefficients of bearing and apply to the disk vibration. The results show about 10 percent errors comparing to the experimental results. Also we investigate experimentally the reduction of disk vibration and power consumption with two different kinds of inclined bearing for normal disk drive system, which has tray and cover. We find inclined air bearing can decrease about 30 percents of the original disk vibration amplitude.

  • The structure of hard disk drive(HDD) is excited by dynamic motion of a disk-spindle motor, and it makes sound noise. Therefore, the cover and the base of HDD should be designed to reduce noise and vibration induced by spindle motor. The prediction technique of sound pressure level(SPL) of a given structural shape enables us to design a cover and a base with much less vibration and noise. In this paper, we measured the force of disk-spindle motor and predicted SPL from HDD by computational simulation. To get a SPL of HDD by computational simulation, modal analysis and forced vibration analysis were performed with ANSYS, and sound radiation was computed using SYSNOISE. The calculated results were compared with experimental results and a good agreement was obtained. With this computer simulation procedure and design of experiment(DOE), optimal thickness of noise barrier and damper was calculated.

Cover의 구조변겨을 통한 HDD의 소음 저감에 관한 연구 (A Study on Noise Reduction of a HDD by Structural moification of Cover)

  • An effective and new method of reducing the noise of a HDD by structural modification of cover was investigated in this study. The correlation between the noise characteristics of the HDD and the vibration characteristics of the cover, which is the main source of the HDD noise, is found from experiments. A theoretical analysis is performed to find the modification method of the cover, and this modification method is applied the real cover of the HDD. The modification reduces the vibration of the cover transferred from driving motor. The effect of the modification is verified through noise tests.

  • 액체금속로의 소듐-물 반응사고에 따른 압력거동 분석을 위하여 한국원자력연구소 KALIMER 개발팀이 개발한 SPIKE코드의 해석 모형 및 알고리즘을 소개하였으며 검증 계산 결과를 제시하였다. KALIMER IHTS의 소듐-물 반응사고로 인한 계통내 압력 거동을 분석하였다. 소듐-물 반응사고의 초기는 압력파 전달과 질량 전달 영역으로 구성됨을 확인하였다. 압력파 전달 영역에서의 압력 거동은 계통의 설계 특성과 무관하나 질량 전달 영역에서는 Cover gas 체적과 파열판 파열 압력에 크게 의존함을 확인하였다. KALIMER IHTS의 초기 소듐-물반응사고 해석 결과는 적절한 Cover gas체적과 파열판 압력 설정을 통해 압력 진동이 설계 압력 범위로 조절할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

슈라우드로 차폐되어진 단일회전디스크 표면의 열전달 특성 (Heat Transfer Characteristics on a Single Rotating Disk with a Shrouded Cover)

  • The present study investigates the local heat/mass transfer characteristics on a rotating disk which is the top disk covered with a shroud in HDD. The naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the rotating disk. Flow field measurements using Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and numerical calculations are performed to analyze the flow patterns induced by the disk rotation. HDD has been developed for compactness and speedy data access, thus the rotating velocity of the disk is increased and the height of a hub is decreased. The experiments are conducted for the various hub heights of 5, 10 and 15 mm, for the rotating Reynolds numbers of $5.5{\times}10^4$ to $1.1{\times}10^5$ and for the effects of the presence of a read/write head arm. The results show that the heat transfer on the rotating disk is enhanced considerably for the decrease of the hub height and for the increase of the rotating Reynolds number. The head arm inserted in the cavity decreases the heat transfer despite the enhancement of tangential RMS velocity because of the deficit of the momentum in the flow field.
