  • In this paper the newly developed discrete-time adaptive sliding mode control method is proposed and applied to the power system stabilization problem. In contrast to the conventional continuous-time sliding mode controller, the proposed method is developed in the discrete-time domain and based on the input/output measurements instead of the continuous-time and the full-states feedback, respectively. Because the proposed control method has the adaptivity property in addition to the natural robustness property of the sliding mode control, it is possible to design the power system stabilizer which can overcome both the minor variations of the parameters of the power system and the diverse operating conditions and faults of the power system. Mathematical proof and the various computer simulations are done to verify the performance and stability of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we present a stable solution of the transient electromagnetic scattering from the conducting objects. This method does not utilize the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) solution. Instead we solve the time domain integral equation by expressing the transient behavior of the induced current in terms of weighted Laguerre polynomials. By using this basis functions for the temporal variation, the time derivative in the integral equation can be handled analytically. Since these temporal basis functions converge to zero as time progresses, the transient response of the induced current does not have a late time oscillation. To show the validity of the proposed method, we solve a time domain electric feld integral equation and compare the results of MOT, Mie solution, and the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the solution obtained in the frequency domain.

  • In this paper we point out that if the classical principal domain for bispectra is utilized to determine a second-order Volterra model's output, such and output will be incomplete. This deficiency is associated with the periodic nature of the DFT. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to present an "extended" principal domain for Volterra kernels which leads to an improved estimate of the nonlinear system's response. In order to define the extended principal domain, we derive a new discrete frequency-domain Volterra model from a discrete time-domain Volterra model utilizing 2-dimensional DFT and the relationship between the quadratic component of the Volterra model and a square filter. The effect of the extended domain on the model output is interpreted in terms of the periodicity of DFT. Through computer simulations, we demonstrate the effects of the extended principal domain on the Volterra modeling. The simulation results indicate that the extended principal domain plays and important role in computing Volterra model outputs and estimating Volterra model coefficients.

  • In this paper, we describe the structure of the DWMT (discrete wavelet multitone) transceiver for VDSL system. The DWMT transceiver is basically consisted of the transmultiplexer using cosine modulation filter bank (CMFB), time domain equalizer (TEQ) and frequency domain equalizer (FEQ) minimizing the effects of the transmission channel. For FEQ, we expanded the general LMS algorithm to 2-dimensions: time and subchannel axes and examined the 2-dimensional LMS methods with the various array size.

This design results is equivalently converted to the discrete-time suboptimal LQG in order to implement by the microcomputer system. The LTP, condition of the discrete-time LQG is analyzed and approved by the experiments against the uncertainty of real plant, the discretized LQG /LTR control shows the good robustness.

  • In this Paper, we propose an accurate and stable solution of the transient electromagnetic response from three-dimensional arbitrarily shaped conducting objects by using a time domain magnetic field integral equation. This method does not utilize the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) solution. Instead we solve the time domain integral equation by expressing the transient behavior of the induced current in terms of temporal expansion functions with decaying exponential functions and Laguerre·polynomials. Since these temporal expansion functions converge to zero as time progresses, the transient response of the induced current does not have a late time oscillation and converges to zero unconditionally. To show the validity of the proposed method, we solve a time domain magnetic field integral equation for three closed conducting objects and compare the results of Mie solution and the inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT) of the solution obtained in the frequency domain.

  • In this paper, we propose a content-based MPEG transcoding method using a discontinuity feature in the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) domain. A DCT block is transcoded differently depending on the height of dominant discontinuity within a block. In the experiment, we show the result that the video quality of content-based transcoding is better than that of a constant cut-off method and the processing time of the adaptive method is much faster compared with the pixel domain methods in the same bandwidth.

Methods are developed both for time-varying and time-invariant for linear and nonlinear. for time domain and frequency domain . and for discrete-time and continuous-time systems. Among the topics presented are: 1. Learning control based on integral control concepts applied in the repetition domain. 2. New algorithms that give improved transient response of the indirect adaptive control ideas. 4. Direct model reference learning control. 5 . Learning control based frequency domain. 6. Use of neural networks in learning control. 7. Decentralized learning controllers. These learning algorithms apply to robot control. The decentralized learning control laws are important in such applications becaused of the usual robot decentralized controller structured.

  • Failures frequently occurred in manufacturing machines due to complex and changeable manufacturing environments, increasing the downtime and maintenance costs. This manuscript develops a novel deep learning-based method named Multi-Domain Convolutional Neural Network (MDCNN) to deal with this challenging task with vibration signals. The proposed MDCNN consists of time-domain, frequency-domain, and statistical-domain feature channels. The Time-domain channel is to model the hidden patterns of signals in the time domain. The frequency-domain channel uses Discrete Wavelet Transformation (DWT) to obtain the rich feature representations of signals in the frequency domain. The statistic-domain channel contains six statistical variables, which is to reflect the signals' macro statistical-domain features, respectively. Firstly, in the proposed MDCNN, time-domain and frequency-domain channels are processed by CNN individually with various filters. Secondly, the CNN extracted features from time, and frequency domains are merged as time-frequency features. Lastly, time-frequency domain features are fused with six statistical variables as the comprehensive features for identifying the fault. Thereby, the proposed method could make full use of those three domain-features for fault diagnosis while keeping high distinguishability due to CNN's utilization. The authors designed massive experiments with 10-folder cross-validation technology to validate the proposed method's effectiveness on the CWRU bearing data set. The experimental results are calculated by ten-time averaged accuracy. They have confirmed that the proposed MDCNN could intelligently, accurately, and timely detect the fault under the complex manufacturing environments, whose accuracy is nearly 100%.

  • We introduce and anlyze a naturally parallelizable frequency-domain method for parabolic problems with a Neumann boundary condition. After taking the Fourier transformation of given equations in the space-time domain into the space-frequency domain, we solve an indefinite, complex elliptic problem for each frequency. Fourier inversion will then recover the solution of the original problem in the space-time domain. Existence and uniqueness of a solution of the transformed problem corresponding to each frequency is established. Fourier invertibility of the solution in the frequency-domain is also examined. Error estimates for a finite element approximation to solutions fo transformed problems and full error estimates for solving the given problem using a discrete Fourier inverse transform are given.
