  • This paper is designed for hardware to be applied to JPEG2000 standard in the fields of digital photography, remote sensing, aerial remote telemetry, medical imaging, high resolution, and high compression telemetry applications. The software implementation of the JPEG2000 standard for image compression has disadvantages that the processing speed is very slow compared to the conventional JPEG, also the degradation occurs when the DWT level of the JPEG2000 standard is improved. In order to solve this problem, we designed and applied JPEG2000 compression/decompressor. In this paper, the hardware of the JPEG 2000 compression/storage device shows optimal compression speed, faster processing speed, and the image quality for still images by changing the optimal DWT level.

  • The meaningful speech sound block classification provides very important information in the speech recognition. The following technique of the classification is based on the DWT (discrete wavelet transform), which will provide a more fast algorithm and a useful, compact solution for the pre-processing of speech recognition.   • In closed-die forging process, blocker has been used to fill and distribute metal well in finisher die. Generally, the blocker shape was determined by an expert with many experiences. However, the manual blocker design process takes much time and efforts, so various automatic methods for the blocker design process have been suggested for the last three decades. The method with filtering in FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) for the blocker design provides general solution than other methods. But, due to the properties of FFT in time-frequency domain, this method has some drawbacks such as long calculation time, difficulty of local control and additional boundary process after filtering. In this study, DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), which is more flexible and is more wildly used than FFT, is applied to the blocker design. The method with filtering in DWT is very proper to design blocker in both 2-D and 3-D shapes. To verify the efficiency of this method, blockers of some models are designed and the results show that blocker design with DWT is effective fer the blocker designs

  • Acoustic Emission(AE) is widely used for early detection of faults for rotating machinery in these days because of its high sensitivity. AE signal has to need for transferring to low frequency range for the spectrum analysis included the fault mechanism. In transferring process, we lose a lot of fault information caused by unusable signal processing method. Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) is a method of signal processing for AE signatures, but the pattern of its mother function is not optimized with AE signals. So, we can lose the fault information when we want to use the DWT for AE signal. Therefore, in this paper, we will propose a novel pattern for DWT mother function, which is optimized with AE signals. And it will be applied to compare the results of DWT by daubechie and novel pattern.

  • In this paper, we proposed the hardware architecture of wavelet transform digital filter for an image processing. Filter bank pyramid algorithm is used for wavelet transform and each fillet is implemented by the FIR filter. For DWT computation, because the memory controller is implemented by hardware, we can efficiently process the multisolution decomposition of the image data only input the parameter. As a result of the image Processing in this paper, 33㏈ PSNR has been obtained on 512$\times$512 B/W image due to 11-bit mantissa processing in FPGA Implementation. And because of using QMF( Quadrature Mirror Filter) properties, it reduces half number of the multiplier needed DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) computation so the hardware size is reduced largely. The proposed scheme can increase the efficiency of an image Processing as well as hardware size reduced. The hardware design proposed of DWT fillet bank is synthesized by VHDL coding and then the test board is manufactured, the operating Program and the application Program are implemented using MFC++ and C++ language each other.

  • 이산 웨이블릿 변환(DWT;discrete wavelet transform)의 다해상도 분석(MRA;multi resolution analysis)을 효율적으로 수행하기 위해서는 적절한 모함수(mother wavelet)의 선택이 필수적이다. 본 논문에서는, 노이즈가 포함된 충방전 전압의 디노이징(denoising)을 구현할 때, 모함수에 따른 디노이징 성능을 비교 및 분석한다. 고정된 MRA 레벨에서 6개의 모함수를 비교하되, 각 모함수에서 최대 SNR(signal-to-noise ratio)을 가지는 타입을 대푯값으로 정하여 모함수에 따른 디노이징 성능을 비교한다. 이를 위해, 하드 임계화(hard-thresholding) 및 소프트 임계화(soft-thresholding) 기법을 적용한다.

A Study of 3-Dimensional Turbulent Channel Flow Using Discrete Wavelet Transform (이산 웨이블릿 변환을 이용한 3차원 난류 채널 유동에 관한 연구)

  • Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has been applied to the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data of turbulent channel flow. DWT splits the turbulent flow into two orthogonal parts, one corresponding to coherent structures and the other to incoherent background flow. The coherent structure is extracted from not vorticity field but velocity's since the channel flow is not isoropic. By comparing DWT's result of channel flow with that of isotropic flow, it is shown that coherent structure maintains the properties of original channel flow. The velocity field of coherent structures can be represented by few wavelet modes and that these modes are sufficient to reproduce the velocity probability density function (PDF) and the energy spectrum over the entire inertial range. The remaining incoherent background flow is homogeneous, has small amplitude, and is uncorrelated. These results are compared with those obtained for the same compression rate using large eddy simulation (LES) filtering. In contrast to the incoherent background flow of DWT, the LES subgrid scales have a much larger amplitude and are correlated, which makes their statistical modeling more difficult.

  • In this paper, we study the technique to improve the performance of the aerial images taken by UAV using daubechies stationary wavelet transform. When aerial images taken by UAV were damaged by gaussian noise very commonly applied, the experiment for image performance improvement was performed. It was known that stationary wavelet transform is the transferring solution to the problem occurred by down sampling from DWT also more efficient to remove noise than DWT. Also haar wavelet is discontinuous function so not efficient for smooth signal and image processing. Therefore, this study is confirmed that the noise can be removed by daubechies stationary wavelet and the performance is improved by haar stationary wavelet.

  • In this paper, the DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) based watermarking method for authentication and detection of image modification was proposed. The proposed algorithm inserts watermark into high frequency domain after 1-level wavelet transform by exchanging wavelet coefficients and embeds the characteristic values of high frequency domain of original image into the LSB part of watermarked image. Therefore, By extracting LSB values and watermark in the high frequency domain from the watermarked image, we can authenticate the image and detect modified positions.
