  • We present the discrete event systems modeled by finite state machines in this paper using the boolean matrices and vectors. We propose a supervisor synthesis method for such boolean discrete-event systems. The proposed supervisor synthesis algorithm is practically implementable, since the size of the state vector in the product system does not increase exponentially with the number of components.

  • The modelling and simulation of the activation process for the heart system is meaningful to understand special excitatory and conductive system in the heart and to study cardiac functions because the heart activation conducts through this system. This thesis proposes two dimensional cellular automaton(CA) model for the activation process of the myocardium and conducted simulation by means of discrete time and discrete event algorithm. In the model, cells are classified into anatomically similar characteristic parts of the heart and each of cells has a set of cells with preassigned properties. Each cell in this model has state variables to represent the state of the cell and has some state transition rules to change values of state variables executed by state transition function. The state transition rule is simple as follows. First, the myocardium cell at rest stay in passive state. Second, if any one of neighborhood cell in the myocardium cell is active state then the state is change from passive to active state. Third, if cell's state is an active then automatically go to the refractory state after activation phase. Four, if cell's state is refractory then automatically go to the passive state after refractory phase. These state transition is processed repeatedly in all cells through the termination of simulation.

조선 공정 계획의 수립 완성도 향상을 위한 이산 사건 및 이산 시간 혼합형 시뮬레이션 프레임워크 (Combined discrete event and discrete time simulation framework for the improvement of shipbuilding process planning)

  • 본 연구에서는 조선 공정 계획의 수립 완성도 향상을 위한 다양한 시뮬레이션 시스템의 개발을 지원하는 시뮬레이션 프레임 워크(simulation framework)를 제안하였다. 그리고 제안된 시뮬레이션 프레임워크의 핵심 부분인 시뮬레이션 커널을 구현하였다. 구현된 시뮬레이션 커널은 이산 사건(discrete event)과 이산 시간(discrete time) 시뮬레이션뿐만 아니라 이들이 혼합된 형태의 시뮬레이션도 처리 가능하도록 하였다. 제안된 시뮬레이션 프레임워크의 효율성과 효용성을 평가하기 위해, 이를 조선 분야의 블록 탑재 공정(block erection process)에 적용하였다. 그 결과, 제안된 시뮬레이션 프레임워크가 조선 공정 계획을 위한 다양한 시뮬레이션 시스템을 개발하는데 효과적으로 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • Recently, requests for the accurate process planning using modeling and simulation technique are increasing in many engineering fields including shipbuilding industry. In this study, Combined DEVS(Discrete EVent System specification) and DTSS(Discrete Time System Specification) simulation kernel is developed, and an integration strategy of dynamics simulation module and graphics module is also implemented. To evaluate the efficiency and applicability of the simulation kernel and integration strategy, these are applied to the block erection simulation of offshore structures.

  • Most of supply chain simulation models have been developed on the basis of discrete-event simulation. Since supply chain systems are neither completely discrete nor continuous, the need of constructing a model with aspects of both discrete-event simulation and continuous is provoked, resulting in a combined discrete-continuous simulation. Continuous simulation concerns the modeling over time of a system by a representation in which the state variables change continuously with respect to time. In this paper, an architecture of combined modeling for supply chain simulation is proposed, which presents the equation of continuous part in supply chain and how these equations are used supply chain simulation models. A simple supply chain model is demonstrated the possibility and the capability of this approach.

  • As many industrial systems become more complex, they become extremely difficult to diagnose the cause of failures. The subject of this paper is ECCS(Emergency Core Cooling System) part of PWR(Pressurized Water Reactor). This paper presents modeling and diagnoser construction of ECCS based on discrete event system theory. Also, this paper presents that the ECCS system is diagnosible in our approach.

  • As many industrial systems become more complex, it becomes extremely difficult to diagnose the cause of failures. This paper presents a failure diagnosis approach based on discrete event system theory. In particular, the approach is a hybrid of event-based and state-based ones leading to a simpler failure diagnoser with supervisory control capability. The design procedure is presented along with a pump-valve system as an example.

  • 항공용 SIL은 항공전자시스템의 통합 및 검증에 사용되는 통합시험환경이다. 항공용 SIL에는 여러 가지 제약으로 인해 항공기에 탑재되는 장비를 직접 연동할 수 없을 때 장비의 소프트웨어 모델이 필요하다. 지금까지 항공기 개발에 적용한 항공용 SIL의 소프트웨어 모델은 표준화된 방법 없이 일반적인 소프트웨어 개발 방법의 적용으로 재사용이 어려워 소프트웨어 모델 재사용을 위한 프레임워크의 필요성이 제기되었다. 이러한 항공용 SIL 모델의 표준화된 모델링 방법을 위해 DEVS (discrete event system specification) 형식론을 채용하였다. DEVS 형식론은 이벤트 구동(event-driven) 알고리즘이며 이는 기존의 항공용 SIL에 적용되는 절차적이고 반복적인 알고리즘과 어울려 동작하기 힘들다. 이에 본 논문에서는 항공용 SIL 모델의 특징과 기존 방식이 가지는 한계를 보완하고 모델의 재사용성을 극대화할 수 있는 이벤트 기반의 모델링 방법과 실시간 시뮬레이션 방법을 제안한다.

  • This paper describes the application of discrete event systems theory to the design of an automated laboratory system. Current automated laboratory systems typically consist of several interacting processes that must be carefully sequenced to avoid any possible process conflicts. Discrete Event Systems (DES) theory and Supervisory Control Theory (SCT) can be applied together as effective methods of modeling the system dynamics and designing supervisory controllers to precisely sequence the many processes that such systems might involve. Classical approaches to supervisory controller design tend to result in complex controller structures that are difficult to implement, maintain, and upgrade. In this paper, a new approach to designing supervisory controllers for automated laboratory systems is introduced. This new approach uses a modular controller structure that is easier to implement, maintain, and upgrade, and deals with "state explosion" issues in a novel and efficient way.

이산적 시뮬레이션 모델을 이용한 생산 스케쥴 (APPLICATION OF DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION TO PRODUCTION SCHEDULING)

  • This article describes the application of discrete event simulation in a process industry (coffee manufacturing) as a daily production-scheduling tool. A large number of end products (around 300), sporadic demand, and limited shelf life of coffee (90 days) make it difficult to generate feasible production schedules manually. To solve this problem, an integrated system was developed incorporating discrete event simulation methodology into scheduling process. The integrated system is comprised of two components: a scheduling program and a simulation model. The scheduling program is used to generate daily schedules for roasting, grinding, and packing coffee. The simulation model uses the generated schedules to simulate the production of coffee and regenerates a modified production schedule. In this paper, each of the components will be described in detail, evaluated in terms of performance factors, and validated with a set of real production data. Although this article focuses on a specific system, we will share our experiences and Intuitions gained and encourage other process industries to develop simulation-based scheduling tools.
