Objectives of this study were: First, to review the effect of buyer position in power retailer on job performance and store performance. Second, to set up research model specifying relationships between the PAQ dimensions of retailer's buyer, job performance and store performance. Third, to test hypotheses derived from the research model of this study and to establish strategy for managing discount store and department store. Marketing Implications of this study were: First, buyers of power retailers should respond more actively to rapidly changing purchasing situation. Second, job content of buyers in power retailers can be redesigned based upon results of this study. Third, as the size and the length of operation of retailers increase, an innovative system should be invented to enhance the effectiveness of power retailers. Limitations of this study were: First, validity and reliability of data collection methods used in this study were questionable for the lack of past researches in Korea. Second, static research method was employed in this study. Generalization over different time interval was almost impossible from results of this study.
This study was to investigate the consumer recognition of commercial Sunsik & Saengsik. The data was collected from the 395 married women residing in Seoul and Kyungki area by the self-administered questionnaire. A related purpose was to analyze the nutrient composition and the hygienic safety of commercial Sunsik and Saengsik. The results from this study were as follows. The purchasing and using behaviors were significantly different between two user groups. Sunsik users have generally purchased the products at a discount store(41.0%) as a between-meal snack(36.4%). The products were usually the ones made on the spot(55.0%). However, Saengsik users have purchased the manufactured products-serving size package-(84.0%) at a health foods store(50.7%) as a health food(38.7%). Many of Sunsik users have had Sunsik in water or milk with sugar(40.7%) and 1-2 times a week(40.0%). But Saengsik users have usually had Saengsik in water or milk with honey(38.6%) and everyday(34.7%). According to the analysis on nutrition composition, crude proteins were significantly more rich in Sunsik samples, and crude ashes were more rich in Saengsik samples(p<0.01). Sunsik E and all the Saengsik samples showed the high total viable plate counts of $4.8{\sim}7.0$ log cfu/g. Coliform groups were detected in all the Saengsik and two Sunsik(A, E) samples.

Consumers earn a number of points for every purchase and then they can exchange a specified number of points for a desired reward in a typical loyalty program. The immediate payoff of their effort given as points is not the real reward they actually care about. It is merely an instrument (or medium) which has no value in itself. In a real world, consumers frequently choose the option with a bigger medium even though the economic value of the option is not changed by the medium. We call it 'medium effect.' In this study we explored if the size of medium affects consumers' preferences. For this we controlled the reward options with three types of medium (small, medium, big) and measured the magnitude of preference difference among the three types of reward options. In addition, we manipulated comparability of reward options with wine and gas discount coupon. We confirmed that choosing one of two wines was easier than that of the two gas coupons. 123 respondents were allocated into three experimental groups. In three experimental grounds, the ratios of the focused reward option's medium to the compared reward option's medium were different. For example, the focused reward option has 10 million points whereas the compared reward option has 10 million points for 1 million won purchase amount in the first group. Then each respondent was asked to choose one of two loyalty programs (focused program vs. compared program) in two different conditions (comparability between reward options. easiness vs. difficulty). To compare the medium effects among the experiment conditions we used chi-squares tests. The empirical results show consumer preference increases and then decreases as reward mile-ages/points given according to purchase amount increase. Additionally, they let us know that comparability of alter natives affects change of consumer preference by reward mileages/points.

In this study, we examined the awareness of consumers purchasing Punica granatum by conducting a survey on consumption of Punica granatum for the consumer panel of the Rural Development Administration (RDA) and derived the purchasing characteristics from the actual purchase date analyzed in a Linear regression model and Tobit model. Most consumers had been purchasing Punica granatum for health and beauty, and the proportion of that consumers were willing to repurchase Punica granatum was 93.1%. The result of examining the biggest considerations in 5 point scale when choosing a Punica granatum was in the order of freshness (4.37)> price (4.15)> safety (4.13)> size(3.86)> brand (3.27)> discount event (2.76). When we compared the results between a linear regression model and tobit model, the signs of all variables are consistent with each other. However, it was estimated that all absolute values of the coefficient values in the results of the tobit model analysis were larger than the values in the linear regression model, except for the "favorite purchasing place" of a weekday traditional markets. Punica granatum is known as a good fruit for postmenopausal women and it seems that the higher age is, the more purchase there will be. The more income a housewife had, the greater purchase there was. In the case of the purchase amount, a selecting for a eating pleasure was bigger than a selecting for a need of health. Therefore, it is necessary to develop Punica granatum with a taste in consumer preferences.
The purpose of the study was to divide social commerce websites' information into components of product, price, service, and seller information, and to systematically analyze each component of information. A content analysis was used as a research methodology, and 100 webpages from social commerce websites were analyzed. As results, the social commerce websites provided basic information (front view, fabric contents, country of origin, care, color, size) for product information and emphasized price information, including discount rates, sales dues, product quantity, and the amount of products sold. They basically provided expected delivery date, delivery company, Q&A, and return/refund service for service information. In addition, they basically presented brand logo and brand name but need to add information about brand concepts, history and volume as seller information. This study suggested diverse theoretical and practical implications of social commerce information.
Purpose - In general, large companies have larger organizations, funds, and systems to provide more effective and efficient services in the market. However, development needs to support the livelihood of ordinary citizens who work for small businesses as well. This research suggests that a new distribution channel, called a "foothold style Kosa mart," that cooperates jointly with a distribution center and a large discount mart can provide direct solutions to small and mid-size distributors. This new distribution channel can achieve a limited type of "Nadle shop (small supermarket) foster project" related to building a joint distribution center and improvement in wholesale supply. Research design, data, and methodology - Data about the Korea distribution situation, the Nadle stores, and the logistics centers were collected from literature, Statistics Korea, journals, and reports. Specifically, we investigated information about Kosa Mart and Nadle stores. We focused on the redesign of the distribution center for the Nadle store. Results - The Kosa Mart distribution center now includes 18 warehouses, and has been handling 2000-3000 items. Most of the warehouses have been simply designed and items loaded and stored without refrigeration; thus, it is possible to store only products of certain manufactured goods. The current logistics center has no wholesale function because it failed to resolve the joint purchasing and product supply issues of competitively priced products. Conclusions - This study aimed to identify ways to strengthen the competitiveness of small- and medium-sized retailers. A Kosa Mart redesign aims to unifying the logistics center, stores, and customers. First, the joint wholesale logistics system, equipped with an integrated ordering system, needs to process customer orders and store orders at the same time. Second, excellent small business product development has to connect with production. Third, the store composition needs to support a shipping hub. Fourth, the Mart differentiates itself from convenience store goods by supplying regional and specialized products to customers. Fifth, a service buying agent and direct transactions between producers and consumers need to be established, and exhibits and displays of goods need to be improved.
This study investigated consumer perception and purchase behavior regarding Han-gwa (traditional Korean confection) in housewives residing in the Seoul and Gyeonggi area. This study was conducted by self-administered questionnaires. Out of 839 questionnaires, 713 questionnaires (85.0%) were used for statistical analyses including frequency analysis, the Chisquare, and one-way ANOVA. Based on the data collected, independence variables were divided less than 40 years (<40), 40s, 50 years or higher (50) by age. The major findings were as follows; Firstly, 72.1% of the total respondents had the experience of purchasing Han-gwa. Gangjeong was the most popular item among purchased. As the purpose of purchasing, holiday gift and snack was on the highest rank. Hypermarkets / discount stores (48.9%) was the most common place for the place of purchase. Secondly, there was a significant difference in the perception of Han-gwa by age; respondents aged 50 years or older showed more positive perception in Han-gwa in 3 factors among total of 11 factors. Thirdly, for the popularization of Han-gwa, 'too sweet taste (44.2%)' and 'small portion size (22.9%)' were pointed to be improved by respondents. Results of this study indicate that 1) Yu-gwa and Yak-gwa require new product development based on age segmentation, and health and food safety are important variables considered when housewives purchase Han-gwa.
This research investigated the consumption of various rice-based processed foods of 279 housewives in Daegu. 70% of the housewives that responded to the question graduated from a high school or college, was 30∼40 years old and full-time housewives. The main places for purchasing the rice-based processed foods were large size discount store and supermarkets, as other industrial products and the family′s preference was the most critical factors in choosing the products. The fact that the main reason of purchasing the rice breads and cookies, instead of wheat, was "They may be good for health” indicated many housewives have a positive perception of rice-based foods. Among the rice-based processed foods, the using frequency of rice cake (dduk) was the highest, with rice cookies and rice drinks being the next most frequent. However, the frequencies of cooked rice (bob) and rice flour were very low. An analysis of the correlation for the using frequency of 15 rice-based processed foods showed that the use of rice cookies and breads, instead of wheat, was highly correlated to another 13 foods. The critical reasons why they do not consume cooked rice and rice flour were uncertainty of the purity of the rice and the addition of preservatives, and that with rice bread and noodles there was no information available about the products, and hey have a poor taste. The most common reasons of using cooked rice were no time to cook and simple curiosity about the products. However, the consumers were suspicious of containers, which were a potential cause of environmental hormones, and the high price of the products. Packed rice flour was mainly used as an ingredient to give the viscosity to a product. The advantages of using rice flour were that it was available to control the amount of buying and the convenience to buy. However, it was pointed out that the taste of products containing packed rice flour were poorer than that of rice flour ground at a mill.

Lotte group declared its vision statements in 2009 and has spent its effort to accomplish the goal. Lotte Shopping is implementing the group-level growth strategy through merges and acquisitions and diverse marketing programs. We will briefly investigate the current situation of Lotte Shopping and will then analyze its 1) entertainment shopping center and multi-channel strategy, 2) global market entry, and 3) education system.
