방전가공기용 액체 절연재료의 아크 방전 특성 연구 (A study on the arc discharge characteristics of liquid insulating materials for electrical discharge machine)

  • This paper deals with the arc discharge characteristics of kerosene oil as a basic study on electrical discharge machine. Using needle electrode the discharge voltage, discharge current, discharge energy and the shape of discharge crater are measured. In consequence, it becomes clear that the discharge crater(depth, height, diameter) is depending on the discharge energy. Rapid increase in depth, height and diameter of discharge crater was observed during initial discharge, where discharge energy is large. However, rather slow decrease of those values was found when discharge energy is low or N is more than 3. As the ratio of $I_p$$T_on$ increase, the shape of discharge crater gets near circle. The protuberances of the discharge crater were not formed by the melted needle electrode but by the that of work piece.

  • In this paper, we will report on the effect of the pointed end shape of an electrode, discharge energy, pulse width and discharge current on machining characteristics. The results obtained are as tollows: 1)As the discharge Energy increases, the diameter and the depth of the discharged crater becomes larger and deeper. 2) The discharge energy is not constant during discharge but varies depending on the pointed end shape of th8 electrode. 3) The shape of crater depends on the pulse width and discharge current.

  • For the electro-discharge machining of an electro-conductive anisotropic composite, an unsteady state formulation was established and solved by Galerkin's finite element method. The distribution of temperature on work piece, the shape of the crater and the material removal rate were obtained in terms of the process parameters. As the spark was initiated the workpiece immediately started to melt and the heat affected zone was formed. The moving boundary of the crater was also identified with time. When the radial and axial conductivities were increased separately the temperature distribution and the shape of the crater were shifted in the same direction respectively and the material removal rate was found to be higher in the case of increasing radial conductivity rather than the axial conductivity.

  • This study predicts the heat-affected zone (HAZ) after electrical discharge machining. To predict HAZ, the temperature distribution is calculated using FEM. Heat flux is calculated from electrical energy, and it can be assumed Gaussian distribution. Plasma channel expands as time goes. Copper and NAK80 are used as the workpiece material. The depth of HAZ in simulation is determined by temperature distribution. The simulation results were compared with a developed actual single discharge crater. Through investigating the cross section of simulated & actual craters, the depth of HAZ in simulation and experiment are compared. Simulation model can predict the crater shape.

  • Griemm 형태의 글로우방전셀을 상업용 사중극자 ICP-MS에 장착시켜 다층박막의 표면 분석을 시도하였다. 지름이 2.0mm인 양극과 적절한 실험 최적 조건을 사용한 결과 ${\mu}m$ 두께의 여러층들을 30여 분 이내에 분석할 수 있었다. Cu-Ni 및 Fe-Ni의 다층막을 GDMS로 분석한 결과 10nm정도의 분해능이 가능하였으며, 이는 바닥이 평평한 crater를 얻을 수 있는 실험조건에서 측정하였기 때문이다.

  • 전기전도성 이방성 복합재료의 방전가공에 대하여 비정상상태 수식모델을 세우고 갤러킨의 유한요소법으로 해를 구하였다. 피삭재의 온도 분포와 분화구의 모양 및 공작물 제거 속도를 공정 매개변수에 관하여 구득하였다. 계산의 정확도와 효율을 위하여 앞선 연구에서 최적치로 선정된 $12{\times}12$ 요소의 비규칙 체눈을 사용하였다. 알루미나/티타늄 카바이드 복합재료의 물성을 재료의 물성으로 선정하였고 51.4 V의 전압과 7 A의 전류를 갖는 전력을 적용하였으며 제거 효율을 10%로 전열 이방성 계수를 2와 3으로 가정하였다. 불꽃이 일어나면서 피삭재는 즉시 녹기 시작하였고 열적 손상 영역이 형성되었다. 또한 시간이 흘러감에 따라서 분화구의 경계가 이동하는 것이 확인되었다. 반경 방향과 축 방향의 열전도도가 독립적으로 커지면 온도분포와 분화구의 모양이 각각 반경 방향과 축 방향으로 이동하였다. 공작물 제거 속도는 축 방향의 열전도도보다 반경 방향의 열전도도가 증가할 때 더욱 커지는 것으로 나타났다.

고온 임프린팅을 통한 알루미늄합금 표면의 마이크로/나노 구조 성형 기술 (Hot Imprinted Hierarchical Micro/Nano Structures on Aluminum Alloy Surfaces)

  • Various surface texturing techniques have been studied because of the effective applicability of micro or nano scale surface patterns. Particularly, the most promising types of patterns include the hierarchical patterns, which consists of micro/nano structures. Different processes such as MEMS, laser machining, micro cutting and micro grinding have been applied in the production of hierarchical patterns on various material surfaces. This study demonstrates the process of hot imprinting to induce the hierarchical patterns on the Al alloy surfaces. Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process was used to imprint molds with micro scale sinusoidal pattern. In addition, the sinusoidal pattern with rough surface morphology was obtained as a result of the discharge craters. Consequently, the hierarchical patterns consisting of the sinusoidal pattern and the discharge craters were prepared on the imprinting mold surface. Hot imprinting process for the Al plates was conducted on the prepared mold, and the replication performance was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the hierarchical patterns of the mold were effectively duplicated on the surface of Al plate.

  • The influences of ZrB$_2$additives to the SiC and pulse width on electrical discharge machining of SiC-ZrB$_2$electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated. IIigher-flexural strength materials show a trend toward smaller crater volumes, leaving a soother surface; the average surface roughness of the SiC-ZrB$_2$15 Vol.% Composite with the flexural strength of 375㎫ was 3.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$,whereas the SiC-ZrB$_2$30 Vol.% composite of 457㎫ was 1.35${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In the SEM micrographs of the fracture surface of SiC-ZrB$_2$composites, the SiC-ZrB$_2$two phaes are distinct; the white phase is the ZrB$_2$. In the micrograph of the EDM surface, however, these phases are no longer distinct because of thicker recast layer of resolidified-melt-formation droplets present.

방전드릴의 방전갭과 표면특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relation Between Expansion and the Characteristics of Surface in the ED-Drilling)

  • This paper describes the machining characteristics of the sintered carbide and die steel(STD-11) by electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. Electrical discharge machining(EDM) removes material from the workpiece by a series of electrical sparks that cause localized temperatures high enough to melt or vapourize the vicinity of the charge. In the experiment. four types of electrode which have different diameter are used with the application of continuous direct current and axial electrode feed. The controlled factors include the dimension of the electrode. In drilling by EDM, the dielectric flushed down the interior of the rotating tube electrode, in order to order to facilitate the removal of machining debris the hole. The expansion increase with increasing the thickness of material and the diameter of electrode and the expansion of sintered carbide is 1.75 times large then that of die steel. The taper of machined hole decrease with increasing the thickness of material. The crater sixe of die steel is larger then thet of sintered carbide and the surface roughness of sintered carbide is 1.58 tims larger then that of die steel.

PCD 공구를 이용한 티타늄 합금의 미세 가공 (Micro Machining of Titanium Alloy Using Polycrystalline Diamond Tools)

  • Micro cutting of titanium alloy by polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tools was studied. Micro electro discharge machining (MEDM) was used to fabricate customized micro shaping tools from PCD blank. The tool was used to machine micro grooves on Ti alloy and the effects of depth of cut and machining length on tool wear, burr and surface roughness were studied. The shaping tool has cutting edge of a few ${\mu}m$. The crater size of the tool surface was increased with increasing capacitance of EDM machining conditions, which was used to control the surface roughness of the machined micro grooves.
