Discharge valve mechanism for an electrodynamic-oscillating compressor is different from that of a conventional reciprocating compressor. It has a larger discharge port area, heavier valve mass and stiffer valve spring comparing with the reciprocating one. Since the motion of piston is not kinematically restricted as in conventional reciprocating compressors, the stroke of the piston can change sensitively with supplied boltage and load. Thus piston can impact with discharge valve occasionally. This work deals on dynamic analysis of discharge valve considering all of those different characteristics. Impact is considered by a spring-mass model, and the pressure fluctuation at the both sides of the valve is also included considering the discharge port area and valve spring preload. It is assumed that piston moves in the region of between top and bottom dead center not by calculating piston motion from an electrodynamic equation but by getting values through experiment. Discharge pressure fluctuation is calculated using Helmholtz modeling. Finally, dynamic model for a discharge valve is constructed. In order to validate the model analysis results, the valve motion is experimentally measured and compared with analysis.

On a refrigeration compressor, damage of a discharge valve is one of the annoying troubles for an engineer. Small size compressors, having ring plate type discharge valve are recently used. Therefore, it is very important for engineers to measure and analyze strains of discharge valve. The purpose of this study is to obtain the basic data of the strain of the flexible ring valve. Measurements were performed by the strain gauge bonded on the surface of the flexible ring valve. Stress and strain of the valve were calculated by the method of uniformly loaded circular plates with a central hole. The results obtained are as follows; (1) the strain of flexible ring discharge valve in refrigeration compressor was influenced by tension and compression strain simultaneously. (2) for a given discharge pressure, the tangential and radial strains was increased with increasing discharge pressure. (3) the valve of radial strain was larger than that of tangential strain.
The constant flow control valve is used to control the flow rate of heating water in the large apartment complex and buildings. It is important to have similar heating flow rate in the apartments, even though the apartment is top or bottom floors. To achieve those purposes, the constant flow control valve was developed. The performance of this control valve is effected by hole area and discharge coefficients of the cartridge holes. The discharge coefficients of orifice hole in the cartridge were testes with various sizes of holes and various flow direction in the holes. The discharge coefficients decreased as the hole size increased due to the collision at the cartridge wall of water jet. The effects of the flow direction at the hole were not significant on the discharge coefficients.

In this paper, 3-D reciprocating compressor is taken into flow-structure interaction analysis. The full cycle process consisted of cylinder expansion and compression has been modeled without considering flow leakage through cylinder wall. Fully-coupled FSI analysis of this compressor model was iteratively solved and gives sufficient result with the experimental test. The study is emphasized to thoroughly investigate discharge valve motion, opening and closing, in order to determine discharge valve region which is prone to have high effective stress. The cylinder pressure is successfully validated before conducting impact analyses between discharge valve and other susceptible supported structure. Velocity profile has been obtained in FSI analysis is used as initial condition to carry out further impact analyses. Stress result of discharge valve and valve spring gives preliminary estimation of higher stress area due to its impact phenomena.

This study has been conducted to investigate the characteristics of flow field and discharge valve motion in a rotary compressor. In this study, a transient three-dimensional numerical analysis using FSI(Fluid-Structure Interaction) model has been employed to analyze the interaction between the discharge valve and the refrigerants in the rotary compressor. It has been observed that two peaks have appeared in the displacement of the discharge valve. The maximum displacement of the discharge valve has been found to be located at the second peak. Also, the input pressure of the refrigerants has been compared with the pressures of the muffler passage and the compressor outlet in the rotary compressor. The pressure has decreased along the pathway in the rotary compressor. And the volume flow rates obtained from the current numerical study have been compared with the experiment at data to verify the validity of the present numerical study. This study may supply the fundamental data for the design of rotary compressors.

The safety valve used in LNG/LNG-FPSO ships plays an important role in maintaining a fixed level of pressure by emitting LNG gas out of the pipes in the LNG piping system. The discharge coefficient is regarded as the most important factor in the valve performance. To satisfy the ship's classification, the discharge coefficient of the safety valve must usually be over 0.8. Despite the importance of understanding the flow phenomena inside the safety valve, the valve design is usually based on experience and experiments. We carried out a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) investigation using the ANSYS-CFX software. We observed the flow phenomena inside the valve and measured the discharge coefficients according to changes in the valve lift, which is the distance between the exit of the nozzle and the lower part of the disc plate. We verified our CFD results for the discharge coefficients using available experimental data.

In this study, flow of a model intake port/valve system is analyzed by using low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. Discharge coefficient was obtained from computational results for the various cases of valve lifts. Discharge coefficient becomes maximum when the valve lift is 20mm, and does not increase or decrease in proportional to valve lift. Most of pressure drop and production of turbulent kinetic energy occur at the edge points of the valve and the valve seat Thus, in order to improve discharge coefficient, rounding of edge points in valve and valve seat is recommended. As valve lift is increased, the velocity of the intake jet in the valve passage decreases, and the direction of the jet is more inclined toward the valve seat.

A computational procedure to estimate the noise radiated from a discharge valve system in a linear compressor was discussed and established. This procedure was composed of three steps. As the first step, the dynamic behavior of the valve system was estimated taking into consideration of fluid-valve-piston interactions. As the second step, the flow characteristics of refrigerant in the discharge valve system were estimated through computational fluid dynamics applying the behaviors of the valves as moving boundary conditions. The variations of pressures and velocities of fluid were converted to quadrupole noise sources. As the final step, the boundary element method based on Helmholtz equation was applied to predict the radiated acoustic pressure. The computational results by the presented procedure were experimentally validated.
This paper was studied to design Process considered flexibility and reliability of suction and discharge valves. Flexibility and reliability of valves are main important factors in compressor valves design. And they are incompatible with efficiency of compressor. In this study, we have performed the optimal design of CO2 compressor valves to consider these factors. At first, we analyzed performance simulation of compressor to obtain optimal flexibility level of valves. From this simulation, we could get some important data at valve design like the optimal natural frequency and the height of retainer. After that we studied to reliability of valves corresponding to optimal flexibility level by finite element method. For each case bending stress and natural frequency were obtained by it. Also we investigated the fatigue stability to obtain optimal valve shape that ensured to reliability.

In this study, nonlinear stiffness characteristics of a discharge valve in a small hermetic compressor was considered. It was approximated, with piecewise-linearity, and cubic or quintic nonlinearity by the static load-displacement experimental results. Based on the fluid-structure interaction effects and mass flow rate, the derived 1-DOF equation of motion for the valve model was analyzed. Finally, the dynamic response of the discharge valve was studied with parameters such as the ratio of the running frequency of the compressor to the linear natural frequency of the valve.
