  • The purpose of this study was to prove the relationship between arthrographic and clinical features in temporomandibular joint disorders. In order to carry out this study, ninety-eight arthrographic examinations of temporomandibular joints were performed on eighty-two patients who had the temporomandibular joint disorders. As the arthrographic examination, the cases were classified in three groups, disk displacement with reduction, disk displacement without reduction, within normal limit. After this, the cases were clinically examined, and the results were compared and analyzed in each other group. The obtained results were as follows; 1. As the classification by arthrographic examination, three groups (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) were 41 %, 54%, 5% of total cases in this study, respectively. 2. The third decade(65%) was most frequent in this study. The average age of each group (disc displacement with reduction, disc displacement without reduction, within normal limit) was 24, 28, 21, and disc displacement without reduction group was higher than any other group. 3. In the chief complaint, pain was the most frequent in all three groups. Joint sound was also frequent in disc displacement with reduction group, but in disc displacement without reduction group, limitation of mouth opening was more frequent. 4. Of the various pain, the movement pain was most frequent ( 61 %) in this study. In joint sound, click(63%) was the most frequent in disc displacement with reduction group, but sound history(42%) and no sound (31 %) were more frequent in disc displacement without reduction group. 5. • Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of Korean Medicine treatment on lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and predictive factors associated with disc resorption by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods A retrospective study was carried out in 79 lumbar disc herniation patients who had visited Haeundae Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine. Patients' diagnosis was based on MRI. MRI was performed on two or more occasions and patients were received Korean Medicine treatment within the period. The volume of each herniated disc was measured three-dimensionally and patient characteristics, interval between MRIs, herniated disc level, disc herniation type, disc migration, intactness of posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL), initial volume of herniated disc, modic change, disc resorption rate were statistically analyzed. Results The mean volumes of herniated discs before Korean Medicine treatment and after Korean Medicine treatment were $1,547.81{\pm}598.15mm^3$ and $947.06{\pm}335.28mm^3$, respectively. The mean resorption rate was $35.7{\pm}16.3%$. Disc extent, intactness of PLL and initial volume of herniated discs were significantly correlated with resorption rate (p=0.003, p=0.001 and p=0.024, respectively). Conclusions Korean Medicine treatment is an effective conservative treatment for lumbar disc herniation. Factors such as disc migration, intactness of PLL, initial volume of herniated disc have a significant association with disc resorption rate.

  • Friction materials for brake linings and clutches have severe performance requirements. The principal function of such frictional elements is to convert kinetic energy to heat, and then either to absorb or to dissipate heat. In order to achieve these objectives, the coefficient of friction must be as high as possible, independent of variations in operating conditions, and the necessary energy conversion must be accomplished with a minimum of wear on the contacting parts. In this study, Al powder, Al bronze powder and Mo powder used in general for automobile brake was sprayed on automobile brake disc to restrain rust and to maintain friction performance. Dynamo and corrosion tests have been carried out. It is concluded that the sprayed disc with Al bronze powder has the most improved frictional performance and anti-corrosive characteristics. The main results obtained can be summarized as follows; 1. From the corrosion current density test for gray cast iron and sprayed disc with powders of Al, Al bronze and Mo, it was cleared that the spray treatment with Al bronze powder showed the most superior anti-corrosive characteristics than other powders. 2. By anode polarization toward the noble direction from corrosion potential, corrosion current density with sprayed brake disc by Al-bronze powder was the lowest. 3. Mean frictional coefficients obtained from dynamo test are as follows : the sprayed disc with Al(99.99%) powder was 0.190 ; the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.312 ; the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.257 ; the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.331. In the case of the sprayed disc Al-bronze powder showed the most excellent frictional characteristics . 4. Amount of burnish quantity obtained from burnish test by dynamometer is as follows : the sprayed disc with Al-powder was 1.079 mm : the sprayed disc with Al-bronze powder was 0.155 mm : the sprayed disc with Mo powder was 0.253 mm : the non-sprayed disc of gray cast iron was 0.241 mm. Al-bronze powder also showed the most excellent burnish characteristics.

  • Study Design: Case report. Objectives: We report 3 cases of loss of disc height after spontaneous regression of a herniated lumbar disc. Summary of Literature Review: Reports of spontaneous regression of a herniated lumbar disc were identified. Materials and Methods: We conservatively treated 3 patients who were diagnosed with a herniated lumbar disc. During outpatient follow-up, radiating pain improved in all patients, but they complained of chronic lower back pain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed for diagnostic purposes. Results: On MRI, spontaneous regression of the herniated lumbar discs was observed, but loss of disc height was also found. Conclusions: A herniated lumbar disc may be a risk factor for loss of disc height. It is important to recognize that a patient with a herniated lumbar disc can struggle with chronic lower back pain even if spontaneous regression of the herniated lumbar disc occurs.

  • General coil spring has linearity. However, disc spring has non-linearity so that using this non-linearity disc spring can be designed to do shock-absorbing in cases we need because shock response also has non-linearity. By changing the shape and stacking number, it is satisfactory with response of displacement, velocity and acceleration. Conventionally, disc spring was used to control the vibration against huge load and limited space. However, it is limitedly used because of difficulty of the designing guidance. Therefore, disc spring is needed to study further in order to apply it widely. Response of disc spring is compared to response of coil spring by changing ho/t radio with computer simulation and the usage of disc spring is increased through analysis of effect of design factors. The purpose of this paper is that the shock response of disc spring is calculated through numerical simulation and effect of ho/t and stiffness is analyzed to broad usage so that design factor of disc spring is presented.

  • The brake disc materials for railway vehicle have been mainly used cast-iron. The brake disc and pad should be light, resist to a thermal crack and absorb enough friction energy. In order to satisfy this requirement, aluminum alloy brake disc for railway vehicle has been newly developed. The aluminum itself has not been considered the friction material for railway vehicle. However, in the case of aluminum composite with dispersed ceramic particles, friction characteristics, resistance to wear and heat are much improved. In the present study, aluminum composite brake disc of 20% ceramic particle and three kinds of organic pads have been tested in dynamometer. The results show that Al MMC brake disc and pad have good friction coefficient and wear rate, and thermal cracks in brake disc have not been initiated. Also, the Al MMC brake disc can be applied to railway vehicle of 150 km/h.

  • Three dogs referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Seoul National University were diagnosed as intervertebral disc disease. Physical examination, neurologic examination, survey radiograph, and myelography were performed in patients. Case 1 showed narrowing intervertebral space and calcified intervertebral disc material in survey radiograph. Case 2 showed increased opacity in the intervertebral opacity in survey radiograph. All of 3 cases showed extradural pattern during myelography. In survey radiography, radiographic signs consistent with intervertebral disc herniations include narrowing of the disc space and the dorsal intervertebral articular process joint space, small intervertebral foramen, increase opacity in the intervertebral foramen and extruded, mineralized disc material within the vertebral canal. Myelography is useful for evaluating the spinal cord and the cauda equina. Indication for myelography includes confirming a spinal lesion seen or suspected on survey radiograph, defining the extent of a survey lesion, finding a lesion not observed on survey radiograph, and distinguishing between surgical and nonsurgical lesion. In presentcases, two of three cases show radiographic signs of IVDD with survey radiograph and all of three case show extradural pattern during myelography. It is observed that intervertebral disc disease is one of the most important indication for radiographic examination and myelography of the vertebral column of small animals.

  • The high heat resistant material for brake disc is required for higher speed trains. Although Aluminum is very expensive, it which has high thermal conductivity and low density has been adapted to high performance light-weight brake disc. In this study, we carry out the thermal stress analysis for suggested shape of Al hybrid brake disc which was designed to meet the optimal point between a performance and economic side. And we compare the results from the analysis to results of conventional disc at the same braking speed. The result show that the temperature on braking surface of Al hybrid disc is lower than the temperature on conventional disc surface, whereas the maximum thermal stress is larger than stress on conventional disc.
