A Study on Disaster Preparedness, Core Competencies and Educational Needs on Disaster Nursing of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 재난준비도, 재난간호 핵심수행능력 및 교육요구도에 대한 연구)

  • This study was aimed to investigate disaster preparedness, core competencies and educational needs on disaster nursing of nursing students and to provide basic data needed for development of disaster nursing educational program. 254 nursing students enrolled in 3 college of nursing in D-city completed questionnaires. The data were collected from November 1, 2014 to November 30, 2014. The average level of core competencies on disaster nursing was 2.76 out of 5 points, which was moderate for the core competencies on disaster nursing. Disaster preparedness was 2.14 out of 5 points, suggesting that they are generally not well prepared for disaster. Factors affecting core competencies on disaster nursing were disaster preparedness, educational needs, grade, and experience of disaster education. It is necessary to develop disaster nursing educational program to reflect the needs of the field in Korea. And Nurse educator needs to develop strategies to prepare their students for disasters. Further research is needed to adequately address this issue.

Multiple casualty disaster scene response management: a survey of 119 paramedics (119구급대원의 다수사상자 발생 재난 현장의 대응 역량에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand currently active Korean paramedics' disaster response abilities, including immediate response, severity classification, patient treatment, and patient transfer, in a disaster situation with multiple casualties. Methods: A structured questionnaire consisting of a total of 25 questions was used, including 5 questions on the subject's general characteristics and 20 questions on disaster-related emergency response abilities. Results: Among the disaster response abilities of the participants, the patient transport ability scores were high and the cooperative support ability scores were low. In terms of general characteristics, there was a significant difference in age, and it was high in the 40s, and there was a significant positive correlation between each competency. Conclusion: These results suggest that there is an urgent need to develop a systematic and specialized educational system with components inside and outside fire departments related to multiple casualty disasters to improve overall abilities.

A Study on Ego-resilience, Disaster Experience and Core Competencies among Emergency Room Nurses (응급실 간호사의 자아탄력성, 재난에 대한 경험 및 재난간호 핵심수행능력과의 관계)

  • Purpose: The study was aimed to describe the relationships between ego-resilience, disaster experience, and core competencies among emergency room (ER) nurses. Methods: Data were collected from ER nurses in Incheon and Kyunggi province from May to June 2014. Data were analyzed with descriptive study, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS/WIN 18.0 version. Results: Male respondents showed significantly higher ego-resilience than female respondents (t=-2.04, p=.043), and education (F=4.96, p=.002) and position (F=7.70, p=.001) were statistically significant. The differences in disaster experience was found in gender (t=-2.29, p=.023), age (F=4.25, p=.006), marital status (t=-2.02, p=.045), education (F=6.34, p<.001), religion (F=3.69, p=.015), and position (F=3.55, p=.031). Regarding core competencies for disaster nursing, age (F=7.80, p<.001), marital status (t=-3.00, p=.001), education (F=16.53, p<.001), career (F=5.40, p<.001), position (F=12.52, p<.001) were significantly different. Positive associations were found between core competencies for disaster nursing and ego-resilience (r=.66, p<.001), disaster experience and core competencies for disaster nursing (r=.52, p<.001), and disaster experience and ego-resilience (r=.33, p<.001). Conclusion: Core competencies were higher among ER nurses when they have higher ego-resilience, and more disaster experience. This finding suggests the need for improving ego-resilience among ER nurses. In addition, disaster education needs to be considered as a part of core nursing curriculum in college and clinical settings.

The Study on the Mediating Effect of Smartphone Overdependence in the Relationship between Fears of COVID-19 and Life Competencies of Children (코로나19 두려움과 아동의 생활역량 간의 관계에서 스마트폰 과의존의 매개효과 연구)

  • In this study, the effect of fear of COVID-19 on children's ability in life competency was examined, and the mediating effect of smartphone dependence on this relationship was also verified. For this study, 250 children living in area K who were using smartphones were surveyed as research subjects. The major research results found that the higher the fear of COVID-19, the lower the child's ability in life competency, which affects the child's ability in life competency. And the fear of COVID-19 has been shown to affect smartphone dependence. In addition, It was found that dependence on smartphones had a fully mediating effect on the relationship between children's fear of COVID-19 and their ability in life competency. Based on these research results, to promote the healthy growth and development of children in social disaster crises such as COVID-19, a convergence intervention and pro-active strategy that can control children's smartphone dependence and improve their life's ability in life competency was presented.

A Study on the Establishment of a Container Terminal Safety Management Plan based on Risk Assessment (위험성평가 기반 컨테이너 터미널 안전관리계획 수립 방안 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze accidents and potential risks occurring at container terminals and to conduct on safety management plans tailored to container terminals. Method: A model for establishing a safety management plan is presented through a case study of container terminal risk assessment and literature analysis. Result: According to the 'Statistics of Accidents in the Harbor Handling Industry', 2,800 people were killed or injured during port work for 10 years from 2011 to 2021. This corresponds to an occupational accident rate of one person every 1.5 days. As a method of improving these accidents and disasters, a highly effective safety management plan should be established to prevent the recurrence of accidents in accordance with the Special Act on Port Safety. It is proposed to establish a safety management plan that reflects the risk assessment of container terminals, safety organization, safety budget, safety rules, and safety education.

  • Purpose: This study explored a plan for improving the overall preventive activity of Korean Citizen-Corps-Active-in-Disaster (CAIND). Methods: The study used the documentary survey and the technical approach methods. This way, detailed information regarding civil anti-disaster organizations was found in scholarly monographs, specialty publications, and master's/doctoral dissertations. It further utilized the statistical yearbooks between 2015 and 2018 from the Korean Ministry of Public Administration, Security, and Fire Service, and the National Statistical Office, to discover practical problems through a statistical analysis. Volunteer activities being inherent, related issues were reviewed at the same time to for purposes of clarifying the characteristics of disaster prevention activity by CAIND. Results: The study provided four major suggestions for improvement. First, the quota management system of Korean CAIND considering the characteristics of rural areas should be supplemented. Second, the education and training systems of Korean CAIND should be established to satisfy regional conditions. Third, management members' readership competency in operating organizations, including that of the Korean CAIND captain in charge, should be strengthened. Fourth, the reward system for Korean CAIND activities should be improved. Conclusion: In the future, the results of this study are expected to be utilized as a basic data to develop Korean CAIND.

A Study on Risk Assessment of Container Terminals and Application of Industrial Safety AI Chatbot Technology (컨테이너 터미널의 위험성평가 및 산업안전 AI 챗봇기술 적용방안 연구)

  • During the 10 years from 2011 to 2021, a whopping 2,800 people were killed or injured during port work. Among them, the frequency of occurrence at the port loading and unloading business is high. Container terminal operators must conduct risk assessments and establish reasonable safety measures in accordance with laws and regulations. As a research method, the contents of risk assessment presented in the Industrial Safety and Health Act, the Serious Accident Punishment Act, and the Special Act on Port Safety are presented through literature analysis. In this study, previous studies were analyzed to examine the risk assessment method and risk factors of container terminals. The purpose is to present 'industrial safety AI chatbot technology' that can improve the risk of safety accidents.

  • Purpose: This paper conducts IoT and CCTV-based safety monitoring to analyze accidents and potential risks occurring at construction sites, and detect and analyze risks such as falls and collisions or abnormalities and to establish a system for early warning using devices like a walkie-talkie and chatbot service. Method: A safety management service model is presented through smart construction technology case studies at the construction site and review a relevant literature analysis. Result: According to 'Construction Accident Statistics,' in 2021, there were 26,888 casualties in the construction industry, accounting for 26.3% of all reported accidents. Fatalities in construction-related accidents amounted to 417 individuals, representing 50.5% of all industrial accident-related deaths. This study suggests implementing AI chatbot services for construction site safety management utilizing IoT-based health monitoring technologies in smart construction practices. Construction sites where stakeholders such as workers participate were demonstrated by implementing an artificial intelligence chatbot system by selecting major risk areas within the workplace, such as scaffolding processes, openings, and access to hazardous machinery. Conclusion: The possibility of commercialization was confirmed by receiving more than 90 points in the satisfaction survey of participating workers regarding the empirical results of the artificial intelligence chatbot service at construction sites.

Research on the Development of an Educational Program Based on a Manual for Disaster Medical Support Using Korean Medicine for Disaster Survivors (재난트라우마 한의사 진료 매뉴얼 기반 교육 프로그램 개발 연구)

  • Objectives: This study aims to develop an educational program based on a manual for disaster medical support using Korean medicine (KM) for disaster survivors. Methods: We conducted a literature review on another educational program, a focus group interviews with experts, a survey of the academic needs of Korean medicine (KM) doctors, educational competency development, and an expert Delphi survey. Results: This program was designed using a hybrid method combining online (4 h) and offline (8 h) elements; the total time of the program is 12 h. The offline course consists of theory (4 h) and practice (4 h) lectures. The theory lecture covers herbal medicine, acupuncture, stabilizing technique, emotional freedom technique, and self-management, and the practice lecture covers stabilizing technique, emotional freedom technique, and clinical performance evaluation. Meanwhile, the online course covers a manual for disaster medical support using KM and an introductory course from the National Center for Disaster and Trauma. Conclusions: The results of this study are expected to be useful for enhancing training for KM doctors in trauma care for disaster survivors as well as evaluating and validating the program's effectiveness.

  • This study suggest the social role of record information management for Sewol ferry disaster on sea near Jindo-gun at April 16, 2014. Social each part and the discrete member be going to carry out the social role for the disaster so that record information management part may be gather, operate, provide related record informations. Record informations is ways to reflect, to supplement about something and means to effect it. They naturally generated though automatic managed, it need to purposeful activity. From finding to lack, to remedy a problem, Korean society and record information management part shall be reinforcing directions and competency of the solution with various angles. Practical union and assistance of record information management part for Sewol ferry disaster, at first it be a help to recognize officially evidence for the accident. Secondary it producing and using better than current state of the area's record information part. Finally it may be actively comprise and implement our competency and emotion.
