The subjects were 144 university students of a university located in D and K city. The study used a Educational Needs on Disaster Nursing, Disaster Nursing Knowledge, Disaster Preparedness, Self-efficacy and Disaster Nursing Core Competencies. Data were collected from February 25 to March 15, 2019 and analyzed with t-test, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple response analysis, stepwise multiple regression by using SPSS IBM 22.0 Program. The findings are follows: First, among the disaster nursing education methods, simulation based practice were the highest. Second, Disaster Nursing Core Competencies was positively correlated with Disaster Preparedness, self-efficacy and Disaster Knowledge. Third, the influencing factors in Disaster Nursing Core Competencies were Grade(β=0.343), Self-efficacy(β=0.329), Disaster Preparedness(β=0.282), Experience of practice in ER(β=0.159), adjusted R2=.532. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an Customized Disaster Program that can improve the Disaster Nursing Core Competencies of nursing college students based on the factors affecting the Disaster Nursing Core Competencies and Educational needs.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the convergence influencing factors on disaster nursing core competencies of nursing students. The subjects of this study surveyed 187 nursing students in D city with a structured self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed by the SPSS 18.0 program, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression. The disaster nursing core competencies average mean score was 3.15(±0.40). Grade and satisfaction of clinical practice were the significant factors related to disaster nursing core competencies in these subjects. Disaster nursing core competencies was positively correlated with disaster perception, disaster attitudes and self-efficacy. The influencing factors on disaster nursing core competencies were self-efficacy(β=0.276), disaster attitudes(β=0.200) and grade(β=0.172). The explanatory power of these variables was 19.1%. Therefore, it is necessary to develop disaster related curriculum and subjects that can improve the disaster nursing core competencies based on the important factors affecting the disaster nursing core competencies.

  • Purpose: Considering that nurses perform critical roles for caring for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to investigate core competencies in disaster nursing. This study aimed to identify influencing factors on core competencies in disaster nursing by examining relationships between attitudes toward disaster management, disaster preparedness, and core competencies in disaster nursing in university hospital nurses' experiences of caring for patients with COVID-19. Methods: The participants were nurses working in two university hospitals who had either experiences of caring for patients with COVID-19 or no experiences. A questionnaire was distributed to 198 participants between October and November 2021. Results: The findings of multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the factors related to core competencies in disaster nursing in the participants were disaster preparedness (β=.80, p<.001) and nurses' experiences of caring for patients with COVID-19 (β=.11, p=.007). Specifically, the factors related to core competencies in disaster nursing in those having experiences of direct caring for patients with COVID-19 were disaster preparedness (β=.84, p<.001) and marital status (β=.16, p=.001). The factors related to core competencies in disaster nursing in those with indirect caring for patients with COVID-19 were disaster preparedness (β=.75, p<.001) and an intention to participate in disaster response (β=.16, p=.037). Conclusion: Based on this study, it is important to develop disaster nursing education programs focusing on the full spectrum of disaster management including disaster preparedness, disaster response, and disaster recovery training.

  • The aim of this research is to examine demand of disaster nursing education and core competencies of clinical nurses, and identify elements affecting their core competencies. The data analysis found that there was difference in demand of disaster nursing education(p=.036) depending on disaster experiences, and that there were differences in core competencies depending on age(p=.013), department(p=.007), experiences of disaster nursing education(p<.001), and consciousness of disaster preparedness(p<.001). In addition, it was identified that consciousness of disaster preparedness(p=.003) and experiences of disaster nursing education(p<.001) are the elements affecting core competencies in disaster nursing. It is expected that the findings of this research will be used as basic resources to improve the ability to quickly respond to disaster, and to explore development of education programs on clinical practices.

  • Purpose: The study was aimed to describe the relationships between ego-resilience, disaster experience, and core competencies among emergency room (ER) nurses. Methods: Data were collected from ER nurses in Incheon and Kyunggi province from May to June 2014. Data were analyzed with descriptive study, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS/WIN 18.0 version. Results: Male respondents showed significantly higher ego-resilience than female respondents (t=-2.04, p=.043), and education (F=4.96, p=.002) and position (F=7.70, p=.001) were statistically significant. The differences in disaster experience was found in gender (t=-2.29, p=.023), age (F=4.25, p=.006), marital status (t=-2.02, p=.045), education (F=6.34, p<.001), religion (F=3.69, p=.015), and position (F=3.55, p=.031). Regarding core competencies for disaster nursing, age (F=7.80, p<.001), marital status (t=-3.00, p=.001), education (F=16.53, p<.001), career (F=5.40, p<.001), position (F=12.52, p<.001) were significantly different. Positive associations were found between core competencies for disaster nursing and ego-resilience (r=.66, p<.001), disaster experience and core competencies for disaster nursing (r=.52, p<.001), and disaster experience and ego-resilience (r=.33, p<.001). Conclusion: Core competencies were higher among ER nurses when they have higher ego-resilience, and more disaster experience. This finding suggests the need for improving ego-resilience among ER nurses. In addition, disaster education needs to be considered as a part of core nursing curriculum in college and clinical settings.
