  • The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the causes of high unemployment among the people with disabilities, focused on productivity and discrimination. In order to pursue such goal this study adopts human capital theory, screening theory, job contest theory, taste theory and statistical discrimination theory as theoretical background. The major findings are: (1) Among the human capital variables Education degree and job training are not statistically significant on employment. Only degree of activity limit has significant effect. (2) Among the discrimination related variables only discrimination experiences variable has negative effect on employment. (3) Between degree of activity limit and discrimination experiences, both have similar effect on employment. But the degree of activity limit can be thought as discrimination related element. Because' not giving resonable accommodation' is regarded discrimination in ADA or DDA. These mean that it is important for society to compel the employment of the disabled and to put focus on eliminating prejudice rather than accomplishing education and job training programs to improve the employment of the disabled. In order to accomplish this it is necessary to increase the levy for disabled persons' employment promotion of the disabled persons' employment promotion act and to establish the disability discrimination act. Also, integrated education starting from infancy is necessary. Education system should be changed, and Job training must focused on industry which demand more labor force.

These factors were then measured again using the same form after completion of the program. The interest level among disabled persons was significantly increased after the program (t=-6.191, p<0.001), and also seven items on the attitude changes to the disabled persons were significant (p<0.001). After the program, participant's satisfaction with their daily lives increased significantly (t=-5.465, p<0.001), as did their sympathy for disabled persons (t=-6.125, p<0.001). In addition, the meaning of nursing increased significantly after the program (t=-6.125, p<0.001). Taken together, the results of this study showed that the disabled like program experience had positive educational effects.

  • In this study, through a survey on traffic safety campaigns for electric wheelchairs for the disabled, we found out what is necessary to solve the inconvenience of disabled people driving electric wheelchairs and living in society. The conclusions for each role of the severely disabled are as follows. The government has enacted a law on fostering convenience facilities for the disabled in accordance with reality so that the disabled, who are vulnerable to transportation, do not have any inconvenience in their social lives. However, it is not kept in reality, so there are many obstacles to the social activities of the disabled. In addition, local governments should subscribe to electric wheelchair insurance for the disabled to minimize the damage to the disabled in the event of an electric wheelchair accident. Organizations related to the disabled provide safety wheelchair driving education to prevent electric wheelchair accidents in advance and receive complaints about inconvenience. It can be concluded that people with severe disabilities can prevent accidents in advance by installing a moving ring tone on an electric wheelchair so that they can know the movement of the surrounding wheelchair.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate driving performance of Healthy and disabled groups (with or without driver's license) to control steering wheel by using steering assistive devices in the driving simulator. The persons with partial loss of use of all four limbs have problems in operation of the motor vehicle because of functional loss to operate steering wheel. Therefore, if steering assistive devices for grasping the steering wheel are used to control the vehicle on the road in persons with disabilities, the disabled persons can improve mobility in their community life by driving a motor vehicle safely. Ten healthy subjects (with or w/o driver's license) and ten subjects with physical disabilities (with or w/o driver's license) were involved in this study to evaluate driving performance to operate steering wheel by using four types of steering assistive devices (Single-pin, V-grip, Palm-grip, Tri-pin) in driving simulator. STISim Drive 3 software was used to test the steering performance in four scenarios: straight road at low and high speed of vehicle (40 km/h and 80 km/h), curved road at low and high speed of vehicle (40 km/h and 80 km/h). This study used two-way ANOVA in order to compare the effects of two factors (type of steering assistive device and subject group) in the three dependent variables of driving performance (the lateral position of vehicle, standard deviation of lateral position representing the variation of the left and right movement of the vehicle and the number of line crossing). The mean values of the three dependent variables (lateral position, standard deviation of lateral position, the number of line crossing) of steering performance were statistically significantly smaller for the healthy or disabled groups with driver's license than the other groups without driver's license on the curved road at high speed of vehicle compared to low speed of vehicle.

To achieve this, a survey was empirically carried out to the disabled. The findings were summarized as follows. As for the above-stated findings, human capital had a positive effect on economic independence, and social and cultural capitals had a positive effect on economic independence and life satisfaction, comparing those with rejection of the effect of human capital on life satisfaction and the effect of economic independence on life satisfaction. Consequently, human capital is not just a tonic for disabled persons' life, and economic independence has not just a reciprocal relationship as a mechanism to improve life satisfaction. Based on this result, we discussed the activation for practical and diverse human, social and cultural networking.
