  • The necessity of universal design for forestry is increasing. Although several studies applied universal design in forest site, they had been only concentrated on the barrier-free design for the limited activities rather than overall utilization for considering all visitors from the disabled, the elderly and the infirm to the baby and child. The purpose of this study is to find out the principle of the universal design within forest welfare service facilities by analysing how socially disadvantaged people perceive overall usage of natural recreation forest area. This study figures out the main principles of universal design in forest welfare through analyzing usage of children and disabilities in Yumyeongsan natural recreation forest where is one of the popular type of forest welfare area. By doing focus interviews targeted on children and disabilities, the results are analyzed through semantic network analysis, objectively. The result proves that universal design in forest welfare area contains four principles; convenience, safety, diversity and amenity. Also it confirmed that disabilities need better internal space facilities and priority care. Through those characters of universal design, forest area will be able to cover more various type of users as forest welfare area.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study for the physical therapy service was to investigate the satisfaction of the parent whose child has a disability and which factors affect their satisfactions. 153 questionnaires were surveyed from parents who experienced services of physical therapy offered in 3 general hospitals, 6 disabled daycare centers and 2 welfare centers located in Jeonnam area for one month, Sep. 2009. The results of this study were as follows: 1. In the parent's satisfaction of physical therapy program, there was a significant difference in satisfaction according to their place of residence(p<.05). 2. In the child's satisfaction of physical therapy program, there was a significant difference in satisfaction according to their diagnosis time(p<.05). 3. In the general characteristics of the condition of workroom, the satisfaction of physical environment, therapist's attitude, and physical therapy program revealed the significant differences(p<0.05). In the satisfaction according to institution, only physical environment has a significance(p<.05). 4. The satisfactions were $4.17{\pm}0.67$, $3.97{\pm}0.60$ and $3.90{\pm}0.68$ for physical therapist's attitude, physical environment and physical therapy program, respectively. The overall satisfaction revealed $4.01{\pm}0.58$, relatively high.

  • The Fuel cell Rubber tired Train (FRT), which is now getting the attention as the next generation vehicle with its environment-friendliness, is the transportation for smooth connections of city traffic. It is the revival of the surface-car system with its revaluation of the function and technological development. Accordingly, fixed time operation and high speed driving became possible. FRT is operated together with other vehicles on the regular drive way. While this vehicle can solve the problem of traffic congestion in the urban area, it also can be cost-effective when it is compared to the cost of subway construction. It is also designed to minimize the underground or elevated traffic lane, to introduce the new construction technology, to reduce a term of works, and to cut down the operation cost by unmanned automatic driving system. Furthermore, it is considered as the alternative measure of other transportation due to its potential for the ecological way of speed improvement and the accessability to the disabled, elderly and children by developing the vehicle with folding steps or by building the high boarding platforms. In this research, I concentrated on the user oriented interior design of the FRT to make it passenger-friendly and safe in order to maximize the utilization of the vehicle so that all users including wheelchaired, user with baby carriage, elderly and children can conveniently use this vehicle.

  • Al Capone Does My shirts is a book that received the Newbery Honor Award in 2005. The novel is set on Alcatraz Island, where the Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary housed the most dangerous and heinous criminals during the Great Depression era, and is centered on autism. The purpose of this study is to analyze the living conditions of a family with an autistic child in Al Capone Does My Shirts and the family's spiritual growth through conflict and pain. This study finds that the parents' and siblings' pain from the autistic child is certainly a negative experience, but such pain can help grow the family's love and spirit. Moose, the protagonist, grows into a mature teenager who truly understands his autistic sister and attempts to remedy his mother's wrongdoing. The mother also lays down her unreasonable expectations for her children, learns how to wait and observe from a patient's point of view, and mends her relationship with her son. This novel thus conveys a hopeful message: the family of disabled children can overcome difficulties stemming from the disability through continuously trying to understand each other.

  • Objectives: Children with disabilities may exhibit a multitude of symptoms, and treatment requires a multidisciplinary approach for a satisfactory outcome. Lack of awareness among physicians, lack of referral, and lack of inter-sectoral coordination have hindered paediatric practice in Tamil Nadu, a state in India with a striking childhood disability rate that warrants a timely interdisciplinary approach. However, the perspectives of paediatricians on paediatric physiotherapy are unknown. The aim of the study was to investigate the perspectives of practicing paediatric physicians in Chennai on the role of physiotherapy in paediatrics. Methods: For an in-depth exploration, qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted in person with 10 paediatricians. Audio from the sessions was recorded and transcribed, and data saturation was achieved through iterative analysis. Results: A grounded theory analysis of the results yielded 5 domains under which the perspectives and expectations of the physicians were described, along with the barriers experienced by patients' parents as explained by their paediatrician. The responses highlighted deficits in awareness, structural support, accessibility and direct communication between physicians and physiotherapists. Conclusions: Paediatric physicians have different opinions, and some ignorance persists concerning paediatric physiotherapy. This study warrants a proper structure of the paediatric rehabilitation unit and regular interdisciplinary meetings and focus group discussions to increase access for parents and improve patient outcomes.

  • Purose : This study was to find the factors of guideline and expressing outcome about powered wheelchair use for children with disabilities. Method : The chosen studies were 38 published in Korea or abroad from 2000 to 2014, and the key research is 2 review articles among them. And 19 studies were used by first search and 2 review articles to find outcome factors and categorize followed ICF terminology. Moreover, 2 studies were analysed to find the guidelines about powered wheelchair use for children with disabilities. Result : All reviewed researches were published abroad. These suggested that powered wheelchair use for children with disabilities didn't affect delayed development but many advantages. And they recommended checking information about the guideline, child, parents and environmental support befor applying the powered wheelchair to children with disabilities. Also, they usually used participation level to express outcome about powered mobility use. • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect on intellectual wellness between the physical and emotional wellness of the caregivers of children with disabilities and to provide the relevant data necessary for the response of the caregivers of disabled children. The study subjects were 177 caregivers of children with disabilities, and data were collected from June 2019 to November 2019. Data analysis was performed using the PROCESS macro. Independent sample t-test and one-way batch analyses were conducted to analyze the general characteristics and variables of the collected data. Through this, Scheffé's post-test was performed for variables with statistically significant differences. The relationship between variables was analyzed by Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple accounting analyses. The results of the study indicate that the physical and intellectual wellness of the main caregivers of children with disabilities provide a direct effect on their emotional wellness as well, and that intellectual wellness provides a mediating effect between physical wellness and emotional wellness. It was found that the influence of the physical environment of children with disabilities is also important, but emotional wellness can be improved only when the main caregivers are provided with an appropriate and sufficient intellectual education. Therefore, the expansion of various educational programs for the main caregivers of children with disabilities could contribute to the improvement of their own overall wellness.
