  • This study proposes new LDP code to improve facial expression recognition rate by including local directional number(LDN), edge magnitudes and differences of neighborhood edge intensity. LDP is less sensitive on the change of intensity and stronger about noise than LBP. But LDP is difficult to express the smooth area without changing of intensity and if background image has the similar pattern with a face, the facial expression recognition rate of LDP is low. Therefore, we make the LDP code has the local directional number and the edge strength and experiment the facial expression recognition rate of changed LDP code.

  • The challenge of penetrating obstacles along with impact from weak multipath effects makes 60GHz signal very difficult to be transmitted in non-line of sight (NLOS) channel. So 60GHz system is vulnerable to obstructions and thus likely results in link interruption. While the application of cooperative technology to solve link blockage problemin 60GHz system should consider the characteristic of directional transmission for 60GHz signal. Therefore in this paper a system is proposed to solve the link blockage problem in 60GHz NLOS communication environment based on the concept of cooperation and also the beamforming technology, which is the basis of directional transmission for 60GHz communication system. The process of anti-blockage solution with cooperative communication is presented in detail, and the fast switching and recovery schemes are well designed. The theoretical values of symbol error rate (SER) using decode and forward (DF) cooperation and amplify and forward (AF) cooperation are presented respectively when the common channel interference exists. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance based on DF cooperation is better than the performance based on AF cooperation when directional transmission is used.

  • The wireless transmission medium inherently broadcasts a signal to all neighbor nodes in the transmission range. Existing asynchronous MAC protocols do not provide a concrete solution for reliable broadcast in link layer. This mainly comes from that an omni-directional broadcasting causes to reduce the network performance due to the explosive collisions and contentions. This paper proposes a reliable broadcast protocol in link taller based on directional antennas, named MDB(MAC protocol for Directional Broadcasting). This protocol makes use of DAST(Directional Antennas Statement Table) information and D-MACA(Directional Multiple Access and Collision Avoidance) scheme through 4-way handshake to resolve the many collision problem wit]1 omni-directional antenna. To analyze its performance, MDB protocol is compared with IEEE 802.11 DCF protocol [9] and the protocol 2 of reference [3], in terms of the success rate of broadcast and the collision rate. As a result of performance analysis through simulation, it was confirmed that the collision rate of the MDB protocol is lower than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3], and that the completion rate of broadcast of MDB protocol is higher than those of IEEE 802.11 and the protocol 2 of reference [3].

  • This paper propose a new design of directional couplers with the high directivity. The directional coupler is used to check and verify the power, frequency and antenna reflection of a signal at transmission station for the mobile communications. The performance index of the directional coupler is to which the coupling is strong to reduce the effect on the transmitted power and the directivity is high to suppress the interference of the reflected signals and reduce the nor in the communication. Then, the architectures to gain the high directivity and the studies to get the strong coupling have been proposed However, the conventional architectures lot the high directivity and strong coupling have the directivity by about 20㏈ and the difficulty to achieve the higher directivity than 40㏈ suitable for IMT-2000 [1]. This paper proposes an architecture of the directional coupler which is based on the grounding composed of the strip lines and the comparison results with the conventional directional couplers. The comparison results show that the proposed directional coupler has the directivity more than 40 ㏈ and is adequate for the 2.05GHz IMT-2000

  • A dynamic fatigue characteristic of dental implant system has been evaluated with applying single axial compressive shear loading based on the ISO 14801 standard. For the advanced dynamic fatigue test, multi-directional force and motion needed to be accompanied for more information of mechanical properties as based on mastication in oral environment. In this study, we have prepared loading and motion protocol for the multi-directional fatigue test of dental implant system with single (Apical/Occlusal; AO), and additional mastication motion (Lingual/Facial; LF, Mesial/Distal; MD). As following the prepared protocol (with modification of ISO 14801), fatigue test was conducted to verify the worst case results for the development of highly stabilized dental implant system. Mechanical testing was performed using an universal testing machine (MTS Bionix 858, MN, USA) for static compression and single directional loading fatigue, while the multi-directional loading was performed with joint simulator (ADL-Force 5, MA, USA) under load control. Basically, all mechanical test was performed according to the ISO 14801:2016 standard. Static compression test was performed to identify the maximum fracture force with loading speed of 1.0 mm/min. A dynamic fatigue test was performed with 40 % value of maximum fracture force and 5 Hz loading frequency. A single directional fatigue test was performed with only apical/occlusal (AO) force application, while multi directional fatigue tests were applied $2^{\circ}$ of facial/lingual (FL) or mesial/distal (MD) movement. Fatigue failure cycles were entirely different between applying single-directional loading and multi-directional loading. As a comparison of these loading factor, the failure cycle was around 5 times lower than single-directional loading while applied multi-directional loading. Also, the displacement change with accumulated multi-directional fatigue cycles was higher than that of single directional cycles.

  • In this paper we have proposed an efficient coding algorithm using directional filtering. First an image is transformed by using DCT which has better energy compaction and then the transformed image is divided into a low frequency component and several high frequency components. The transformed coefficients of each parts are transmitted respectively by using huffman code and these are transformed inversely at receiver. For the directional components total edge images are reconstructed at zero crossing points. We are able to reduce the amount of data by getting of complex component and making directional angles 90. As a results, this proposed method is better than that of Kunt in respect of processing time and memories. We have 38dB of image quality with objective measurement of PSNR and 0.26bpp of compression ratio which is acceptable.

  • This work deals with navigation of an omni-directional mobile robot with active caster wheels. Initially, the posture of the omni-directional mobile robot is calculated by using the odometry information. Next, the position accuracy of the mobile robot is measured through comparison of the odometry information and the external sensor measurement. Finally, for successful navigation of the mobile robot, a motion planning algorithm that employs kinematic redundancy resolution method is proposed. Through experiments for multiple obstacles and multiple moving obstacles, the feasibility of the proposed navigation algorithm was verified.

  • Since image data has large data amount, proper image compression is necessary to transmit and store the data efficiently. Image compression brings about bit rate reduction but results in some artifacts. This artifacts are blocking artifacts, mosquito noise, which are observed in DCT based compression image, and ringing artifacts, which is perceived around the edges in wavelet based compression image. In this paper, we propose directional postprocessing technique which improved the decoded image quality using the fact that human vision is sensible to ringing artifacts around the edges of image. First we detect the edge direction in each block. Next we perform directional postprocessing according to detected edge direction. Proposed method is that the edge direction is block. Next performed directional postprocessing according to detected edge direction. If the correlation coefficients are equivalent to each directions, postprocessing is not performed. So, time of the postproces ing brings about shorten.

  • The relation of multicast transmission and directional antennas is an open problem that has been debated for a long period of time. In this paper, we propose a group-aware multicast scheme of efficient multicast communication using the directional antennas for 60GHz millimeter wave wireless networks. For this purpose, we first derive the relation among beamwidth, distance between devices and most suitable data rate in the 60GHz frequency-based wireless network. In addition, for the dynamic beamforming of multicast communication, the x and y coordinates of any point with sender device at the center is generated, and a best-chosen group is deduced based on the Euclidean distance. Then the most suitable data rate for the group is obtained using the law of cosine. Using the Standard IEEE 802.11ad MAC protocol as an example, extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing multicast communication schemes with directional antennas under different situations.
