A new type broadband channel dropping filter which has a potential use as a millimeter-wave multiplexer has been realized by properly connecting 3-dB directional couplers and bandstop filters. 90\ulcorner3-dB directional couplers have been designed using two nonuniformly coupled dielectric image guides, while bandstop filters with Chebyshev passbands have been designed using dielectric image-guide grating structure. Effective dielectric constant method has been aplied to the image-guide dispersion analysis and to the design of bandstop gratings and 3-dB couplers. Experimental results in excellent agreement with computed responses are demonstrated.
One of the most widely used image media in recent years, omni-directional panorama images are attracting much attention. Since this image is ultra-high value-added, the intellectual property of this image must be protected. In this paper, we propose a blind digital watermarking method for this image. In this paper, we assume that the owner of each original image may be different, insert different watermark data into each original image, and extract the watermark from the projected image, which is a form of service of omni- directional panorama image. Therefore, the main target attack in this paper is the image distortion which occurs in the process of the omni- directional panorama image. In this method, SIFT feature points of non-stitched areas are used, and watermark data is inserted into data around each feature point. We propose two methods of using two-dimensional DWT coefficients and spatial domain data as data for inserting watermark. Both methods insert watermark data by QIM method. Through experiments, these two methods show robustness against the distortion generated in the panorama image generation process, and additionally show sufficient robustness against JPEG compression attack.

In this paper, statistical properties of the spatiotemporal center weighted median(CWM) filter for image sequences are investigated. It is statistically shown that the CWM filter preserves image structures under motion at the expense of noise suppression. To improve the CWM filter, a filter which can be effectively used in image sequence processing, the adaptive directional center weighted median filter (ADCWM), is proposed. This filter utilizes a multistage filtering structure based on adaptive symmetric order statistic(ASOS) operators which produce a pall of order statistics symmetric about the median. The ASOS's are selected by using adaptive parameters adjusted by local image statistics. It is shown experimentally that the proposed filter can preserve image structures while attenuating noise without the use of motion estimation.

This paper proposes the new method based on contour following method with directional angle to segment the cell into the nuclei. The object image was the Thyroid Gland cell image that was diagnosed as normal and abnormal(two types of abnormal : follicular neoplastic cell, and papillary neoplastic cell), respectively. The nuclei were successfully diagnosed as normal and abnormal. this paper, improved method of digital image analysis required in basic medical science for diagnosis of cells was proposed. The object image was the Thyroid Gland cell image with difference of chromatin patterns. To segment the cell nucleus from background, the region segmentation algorithm by edge tracing was proposed. And feature parameter was obtained from discrete Fourier transformation of image. After construct a feature sample group of each cells, experiment of discrimination was executed with any verification cells. As a result of experiment using features proposed in this paper, get a better segmentation rate(70-90%) than previously reported papers, and this method give shape to get objectivity and fixed quantity in diagnosis of cells. The methods described in this paper be used immediately for discrimination of neoplastic cells.

This paper proposes a wireless LAN antenna system that tracks an object automatically by using image-based tracking. The proposed system consists of a camera and a pan-tilt unit in addition to a directional wireless LAN antenna. The camera and the directional antenna are set in same direction and they are set on the pan-tilt unit. A target object which has a wireless LAN receiver is tracked by using images captured by the camera. And the directional antenna faces in same direction as the camera by the pan-tilt unit. Therefore, the directional antenna keeps pointing the receiver, and a transmitting efficiency is improved. A result of a fundamental experiment shows that a receiver attached to a flying airship was tracked by a prototype of the proposed antenna system. The airship flied about, and the proposed antenna system was set on a roof of a building. The experimental result indicates an effectiveness of the proposed system compared to the conventional directional LAN antenna.
A high-speed directional interpolation algorithm based on the pattern of a $2{\times}2$ pixel block is proposed in this paper. The basic concept of the proposed algorithm is started from UDWT(un-decimated discrete wavelet transform), but there are no transform operations. In order to detect the direction of the edge, 4-pixel differences of two pairs in the $2{\times}2$ block are compared. The $2{\times}2$ block patterns are grouped into total 8 classes, and thereafter the directional interpolation is executed according to the type of the pattern. Since the calculation of the proposed algorithm is very simple and needs a few additions on integer data type, the computation time is almost same as that of bilinear interpolation algorithm. However, experimental results show that the output quality of the proposed one is better than those of the conventional interpolation ones in the objective quality and the computation time.

Texture transfer is a NPR technique for expressing various styles according to source (reference) image. By late 2000s, there are many texture transfer researches. But video base researchers are not active. Moreover, they didn't use important feature like directional information which need to express detail characteristics of target. So, we propose a new method to generate texture transfer animation (using video) with directional effect for maintaining temporal coherence and controlling coherence direction of texture. For maintaining temporal coherence, we use optical flow and confidence map to adapt for occlusion/disocclusion boundaries. And we control direction of texture for taking structure of input. For expressing various texture effects according to different regions, we calculate gradient based on directional weight. With these techniques, our algorithm can make animation result that maintain temporal coherence and express directional texture effect. It is reflect the characteristics of source and target image well. And our result can express various texture directions automatically.

In this paper, the novel approach for image contrast enhancement is introduced. The method is based on the unsharp mask and directional information of images. Since the unsharp mask techniques give better visual quality than the conventional sharpening mask, there are much works on image enhancement using unsharp masks. The proposed algorithm decomposes the image to several blocks and extracts directional information using DCT. From the geometric properties of the block, each block is labeled as appropriate type and processed by adaptive unsharp mask. The masking process is skipped at the flat area to reduce the noise artifact, but at the texture and edge area, the adaptive unsharp mask is applied to enhance the image contrast based on the edge direction. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm produces the contrast enhanced images with superior visual quality, suppressing the noise effects and enhancing edge at the same time.

In this paper, a novel gray-scale lossless image coder combining context-based minimum mean squared error (MMSE) prediction and entropy coding is proposed. To obtain context of prediction, this paper first defines directional difference according to sharpness of edge and gradients of localities of image data. Classification of 4 directional differences forms“geometry context”model which characterizes two-dimensional general image behaviors such as directional edge region, smooth region or texture. Based on this context model, adaptive DPCM prediction coefficients are calculated in MMSE sense and the prediction is performed. The MMSE method on context-by-context basis is more in accord with minimum entropy condition, which is one of the major objectives of the predictive coding. In entropy coding stage, context modeling method also gives useful performance. To reduce the statistical redundancy of the residual image, many contexts are preset to take full advantage of conditional probability in entropy coding and merged into small number of context in efficient way for complexity reduction. The proposed lossless coding scheme slightly outperforms the CALIC, which is the state-of-the-art, in compression ratio.

In many multimedia applications, image compression is required to substantially reduce the amount of image data. This compression, however, sometimes brings artifacts. Typical artifacts are blocking artifacts and mosquito noise in DCT-coded images, and ringing artifacts around edges in wavelet-coded images. We propose a new directional postprocessing algorithm, which includes detection of the edge direction, interpolation scheme, and directional nonlinear filtering, to enhance the quality of decoded images. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is as effective as or more effective than other nonlinear filtering techniques.
